I’ve read the ‘Peschisolido’ thread and I didn’t see it as negative, but then again I’m not as sensitive as you when it comes to this subject
I'm with Tyler on that one and thought the thread was a silly attempt to write off Billy ("
I like Billy, BUT").
I think the OP then explained he meant further into the future which is easier said then done. The cliche of 'taking one game at a time' is actually a trusim and no-one has any idea what division we will be in, in 2 years time, so planning Billy's retirement just seemed like a waste of time to me.
Billy obviously can't go on for ever but then his game has
NEVER been about pace. He is quick mentally and is a better player at 31 than he was at 21. Whilst ever CW sees him in training and knows he is still up to it, then I can see him playing exactly like this for at least another 3 years.
On other threads people said he
'only had 3 touches' on Saturday, but he worked his defenders tirelessly. Facing the Kop I saw him dragging Dawson all over the place leaving space for Leon. The assist for the 3rd goal was sublime and he was unlucky that the kid who 'blocked' his shot didn't even have a clue what was happening.
His game is about work and doing the tedious stuff, tiring out defenders from the off. For this reason it is much more impoertant he starts and then be subbed, rather than coming on as an 'impact player, which he is not.
He is proabably not in our best 3 players this season, but importantly he is conistent and his contribution cannot be overlooked. As opposed to Hammond, Billy does actually do 'unseen work'. Sadly it is only unseen by those who want to have a pop at him.
