Norwood was 30 yards too deep. Happensso often in these games. Egan needs to tell him to go away. First half we played 622
Stevens is irretrievably broken
Osborn offers nothing in attack
AA looked ill/injured
JLT is a liability in possession
Fleck is virtually invisible and now injured. McAtee is worse and now injured
We don't have a plan to get Ndiaye the ball in central positions when teams sit deep
We are too happy to play the ball wide to isolated players whose only options to pass backwards
Billy looks cooked. Bash not far behind

Until we generate more variety in attack we'll always be susceptible to nights like this. Hecky needs to diversify

My worry is if we do go up we will just get done like tonight on a regular basis. In the premier most teams are as athletic and powerful as Rovrum but are also a lot more skilful. We will just get run all over without massive investment in the team.
We urgently need to upgrade on height, strength and power throughout the team so we don't have to do a Forest and buy 15 new players on promotion. Our team currently is far too small, weak and stocky. For example we need to be buying this Kone kid AND keep Berge, letting Fleck and Osborn go. We need to try Arblaster and try Coulibally. Instead of grinding on with 37 year old Sharp we should be looking for new athletic forward players.
We need to be planning more Christmas signings of the Anel variety...

Congratulations on being the first set of fans this season not to utter the immortal words

"we should be beating #teamslikerotherham"

UTM
Not to buck the trend but...we should.

That's not meant disrespectfully. It's meant to say that we (as a team gunning for the top 2) should (by most metrics) be beating a team like Rotherham who are gunning for survival.

However, tonight you rocked up at our place and showed us up, thoroughly. You wanted it more. You out-thought, out-fought and outplayed us. We were shite.

I don't bear any ill-feeling towards Rotherham tonight. I'd like to be annoyed and say you fluked it, but truth is you were good value for the 3 points.

(had we been at full, Burnley-destroying tempo, we would have demolished you, but we werent't for whatever reason, so fair play).

Funnily, any suggestion or resting players was criticised before the game.

Who are you starting over Fleck?
Any fucker who is not taking the piss winding down his contract.

And even if you're Fleck's Dad , you can't play two totally Lfoot players in the same midfield.

Osborn on the R flank was wank tonight - put any Rfoot there , Bash , Arblaster , Khadra , Brooks.

Our midfield was utter shite tonight.

Hecky needs to diversify ?
I couldn't give a fuck where he puts his pension money.

Mate I don’t expect to win every game … far from it… what I do expect is a team of well paid professionals to turn up every game and do the basics really well.
When so much is expected from those well paid professionals, like maintaining a high intensity attacking style of play, over prolonged periods, with little or no rest time. Players carrying knocks, still getting picked because the injury list has been too long. Players getting picked out of position, because management try to give the fans what they want, as in “Always start your best team” ethos.

No wonder Hecky gets so much flack!

Just walked in. I'd better put the hoover on to clear up all the sand that's dropping from vaginas all over this forum tonight.

We looked leggy tonight, out of ideas and cumbersome. However, Rovrum did a job on us, they pressed hard, closed down passing options quickly, allowed Norwood the ball, but tracked every run we made, so his passing was nullified. I thought Rovrum were excellent tonight and deserved the three points.

I won't be wetting the bed though, because it's one result. Let's see what Saturday brings.
Pretty much sums it up for me, Taylor got his tactics bang on, Millers did to us, what we did to Burnley. They pressed us all over the park, never gave us a chance to get going apart from a couple of patches in the first half.
2nd half was a bit better, not by much though in my view.
What should be a little bit concerning is the quality of the corners and indirect free kicks.
No grumbles or complaints about the result.

P.S
What's a Hoover......been told to ask....

This sort of result is part and parcel of having Heckingbottom as manager, we should just accept it, because we have another 4 years of it 🙂

The basics … like attempting to win the first ball and then attempting to win the second ball.

Like trying to play forward and be brave instead of checking sideways and backwards.

Like individually trying to step up and affect the game instead of relying on the 2 or 3 better players.

You have your opinion I have mine.

I don’t mind losing but to lose in such a passive manner with a chance to go top of the table is terrible.

Maybe you need to work out why Norwood is so deep there’s 9 other outfield players on our side as well and 10 on the other
They set up excellently to nullify our wing backs pushing them back man mark Norwood is a start

He was that deep as a tactic. He wasn't pushed back

I said it MEANS fuck all now. It mattered because we got the 3points against a title rival, but that means fuck all if we can’t beat Rotherham in the very next game and continue pressuring them with the same starting 11 given we are still 3 points behind them. Deflating, missed opportunity to make a real stamp of authority on this league.
But if we had lost to Burnley and beaten Rotherham instead. We would be 6 points off top, not 3.

That's why it matters

He can’t possibly have. Fuck knows what games he’s watched.
I watched both games. I try to analyse games based on what's actually happened rather than whether I've come away with a warm fuzzy feeling or very frustrated. Point being, the main difference between the last two games has been the opposition and a couple of fortunate bounces/decisions. We had far more possession last night versus Saturday.

Honestly think he’s not good enough. If you can’t build momentum off that win. Listen, if we played well and it was just one of those days, then i’d understand. But there’s been to many games this season where we’ve just looked completely inadequate.

Injuries are the big problem, it’s past the point of excuses, something is going wrong behind the scenes. Yes, players get niggles etc, yes injuries are sometimes caused in play. But, every game someone’s limping off.

The squad we’ve got is the best in the league, we’re driving along like a clown car. Stop and start. The reason we’re where we are is down to the squad and the quality we have.

I don’t doubt he’s a nice guy, but he shouldn’t be managing us.

Don't start McDiaye. Start Sharp and Reda then bring the McDiaye duo on if required.
Thing is though, if we drop McDiaye and lose that 1-0, Hecky gets absolute pelters.

For me the HT change should have been Osborn off as he doesn't seem to offer much when on the right side of Midfield.
I'd have put Khadra on with him and Ndiaye playing behind McBurnie.
If not Khadra, maybe Arblaster. Local derby, he'd have been up for it.

Since taking over as permanent manager in Nov 21 he has achieved the highest win ratio of any United manager ever at 53.85%.

I believe that he is also the most successful manager in the championship in that period too.

But yeah we clearly need and can afford someone better.

We were poor last night and it was very frustrating, but this is classic bed wetting and rightly appears in this thread.

I think PH puts too much value in "you've played this role alot, you know where to be in this system", especially defensively.

The athleticism deficiency Stevens and Fleck are at for example is pretty stark

Poor performance but credit to Rovrum for their work rate, desire, and organisation.

This team often struggles against that.

We looked tired and our injury situation and overall fitness remains a concern for me. The WC is hopefully coming at a good time and we kick on over Christmas and the New Year.

Can't help but think though that once January arrives, we'll just be in the same boat. Despite not being overly impressed by Hecky's in-game nanagement at times, I think he gets this squad promoted if they remain largely fit.

Are you actually the statue from your avatar?
Even the statue in my avatar knows that football fans are fickle, it's pretty widely understood, didn't realise some on here hadn't heard that.

Post Saturday some were claiming McBurnie is the new Brian Deane. I'm pleased for him that he had a good game, but the new Deano he ain't. We scored 4 goals from second balls after lumping it in the box, it was effective against a team that can't head it, great. Didn't work last night. Not miles apart.

Not miles apart. Eons apart

If we can somehow scrape together a win on Saturday without McBurnie, Fleck & possibly Doyle then we’ve had a very good couple of week.

I’d take a point now but both teams are coming of the back of a bad result mid week so we should take the game to them

Wes
Baldock Anel Egan Clark Osborn
Norwood Bash McAtee
Khadra
NDiaye

Try and play NDiaye like he didn’t towards the end of last season. If we stick Sharp up there we lose all option of stretching the game

Disappointing result and performance last night. Rotherham deserved the points, even with players out they seem a lot better team than the usual Rotherham teams that have turned up in previous seasons in the championship. They should stay up quite comfortably. As for us, ever since this relentless injury crisis took hold my thoughts were if we can get to the world cup break 5 or 6 points off the top two then we can re group get important players back and have a right good go at getting into the top two after Christmas. However sadly my thoughts have changed.....I don't actually believe our sport science, medics, physios know what the hell they are doing, its becoming a farce now every game a player gets a muscle injury and is out for 2 months, last night it didn't look good for Fleck and probably McBurnie, and we all know Stevens is never more than a couple of games from another one. So rather than sacking the board, Hecky, health and safety, sheff council or the players I'm wanting the Medical team sacked as I don't actually believe anything is going to change injury wise after this world cup.

I get your point & I mostly agree but McBurnie rolled his ankle, these things happen in contact games much like Berges injury
