So then it looks like Waghorn to Derby, maybe Boro, but defo not us.
Nolan to Ipswich.
Freeman staying put.
Saville probably off to Leeds.


I wonder who these other 'irons in the fire' are? We have money but are seemingly hampered somewhat by our wage structure. We either need to follow up Woodburn with another PL loan or 2 [as the parent club may supplement enough of the wage to make it viable] or dare I say it dip back into leagues 1 and 2 where our wage structure wouldn't be an issue.

How about upfront we go for Tom Bradshaw? And for centre mid - Marcus Maddison?

They’re the type of players we need. Granted, they’re both (currently) in League 1 but they’re better than we have atm in their respective positions.

And they might add the spark we’re missing.
 
Surely any plan B we go for now the selling club will up their price as they know we’re desperate.

One minute we sign all from League One, next minute we almost refuse to sign any!

If we are going to get exposed down the left with Stevens, you could play Maddison and get better quality.

Likewise Bradshaw seems on an upturn - 8 in one season at this level, 12 the next.
 
Remember that all the players who'll be going out on loan can just wait until the end of August.

Their clubs are under no pressure to make a decision before Thursday's deadline.

So it's possible we won't even sign anybody before then.

I’m almost sure we won’t do anything perminantly before Thursday. The deals we were aiming for arnt Donaldson on a free, we’re cutting it fine to be able to do the key negotiations to get them over the line in time.

Best hope would be loan with a clause to sign... and actually that may suit us better given that we can’t afford to blow large sums on a flop. Maybe we could loan and see how they do if we get an option in there?

Bradshaw to be would be ideal if we can’t get a key target could at least replace sharps goal output and would remove a problem of having to replace an older striker a year or so down the line....

If we can’t do the (relative) MEGADEALS at this level this seems a sensible succession plan at least.

Maybe, but you can bet the likes of him and Gallagher will be messed about by their clubs until the end of the loan window and sent to whichever club is willing to give them that desperately needed extra 50k.

Hasn’t Hugill got a knee injury and is currently not available to play anyway?

John McGinn linked with Villa as well as Celtic.

If we've got money to spend, maybe we should go all out to get him. He'd be a perfect replacement for Fleck and a big upgrade on Evans and Lundstram in the meantime. Him and Fleck together could be dynamite.

I've thought the same too on him. He's had bad injuries hasn't he and doesn't seem to have had decent form for a while, but Hull have being awful in his time there. He could be an option for sure.

Another old Rumour Mill favourite Jackson Irvine would be gettable and would also be an upgrade on Evans and Lundstram.

Fucking lol.

That’s pretty poor after an entire summer. 1 permanent signing for money and 2 freebies being out only perminant business. Something’s seriously gone wrong with the way we’ve gone about things imo.

Maybe all the boardroom issues have had a bigger impact here... we’ve always been proactive before.

Shame, as I think signings are needed otherwise there’s zero chance we finish above last season. After the disappointment of the start to the season things could turn sour prettt quickly.
