Possible Summer Targets

One striker who'd really kill two birds with one stone is Lucas Joao.

He's big and strong enough to lead the line but he's also a pacy skillful type. And quite young.

I'm not convinced. When he's good he's very good but has far too many off days. I was watching him closely against Villarreal and he was a bit Bambi on ice. Legs and brain not working at the same speed.

Having said that, he'll improve wirh age and experience and gives us sonething we've not got. Wages would be a potential stumbling block though.

Wages are an issue but maybe we could pay a bigger fee to effectively allow Wednesday to pay up the excess wages for his last year.

The problem would be his wage expectations after this season. Not sure he'd agree to 15-20k p/w if he's used to silly money there.

Just looked him up a bit. He signed from Nacional on a four year deal. He's only had one contract at the pigs.
Conclusion: I'm not convinced that he's on megabucks. If the fee was reasonable there are workarounds - as you say. Get the pigs to pay him up, or give him a large signing on fee.It appears that he's represented by Doyen Sports. If you're familiar with what's been happening at the sty under Chansiri, this would be a drawback. He's been wasted at the pigs, and it will be hilarous if he goes elsewhere and goes for mega money in the future.

Porkers reckon they'll be cleared tomorrow over FFP by the EFL and free to sign players

Be funny if that doesn't happen and they are in the shit

Didn't McCabe mention 3 more in during the shareholders meeting last weekend? I think I recall reading it as it caught my eye.

I wonder if there'll be any more outs before the transfer window and probably more relevant, the loan window, shuts - Lavery, Holmes, Lafferty, Eastwood, Norrington-Davies, Wright all possible I'd have thought
You’d think that a spell in League Two for Hallam and Smith might be better than just U23s unless one will replace Lavery as 5th choice striker.

Looks like one more striker to go now. It looks like it’s one of about 6 potentials. As long as we don’t lose any first teamers we have had an excellent window.

Not sure where this leaves Ricky Holmes? As Duffy / Woodburn will get the starting nod in games and Holmes is cover for Injury it seems.

4 signings then, and all 4 were mentioned quite early on this thread. Well done thread.

Egan and McGoldrick - post #1
Woodburn - post #37
Henderson - post #86

But embarrassingly, there was no mention of Kean Bryan, despite him epitomising what we go for.

In regards to strikers, we're now realistically down to Gallagher wouldn't you say?

If there's one striker to come in, then I'd expect it to be in the Gallagher mould (strong, quick).

Now Waghorn looks to be off the menu, I would say it's most likely to be that type if we only sign one.

It was feasible that Waghorn would be the only striker addition because although not tall he's very strong and could do target man duties to an extent, but there aren't many like him. So a more conventional target man type is far more likely if we only sign one striker, especially now we have Woodburn.

I'm hoping for Freeman and Gallagher now, but there are alternatives to Gallagher.

Bryan and a striker none of us expected would be my bet now.

Just seen that Tony Fernandes has said Freeman is not for sale. So maybe that's the case, but you never know. Money talks.

Would like Armstrong if we can't get him - we have the flexibility now to sign either an extra attacking midfielder or an extra striker.

I expect any striker we sign to be high calibre. It has to be, given what we have to spend and the others we've been interested in.

Im still surprised that Nahki Wells hasn't been seriously linked to anywhere (I know there were murmurings of him been included in a swap with WBA, but thats never had legs).

In addition, Hemed from BHA would be a top signing for anyone in our division.

Has Callum Paterson been mentioned yet? literally just looked at the list of championship top scorers and everyone above him has been mentioned. Possibly not needed at Cardiff anymore? summat about 100m to spend?

No Freeman, onto Nolan instead. Methodic work by AK/CW they know what they want. Holmes off to Oxford, all moves improve our squad. Every year league one and two players in numbers take the level up to the championship. Identifying and signing them is a pathway to use. Not long since Freeman played there with Stevenage and Bristol. The remaining piece in the jigsaw is a 6 foot + goalscoring CF.

Well not long to wait (unless we are waiting until January). What time does window close on the 8th?

Dronfield Blade might wet the taste buds before then with what (not who) we are shopping for ;)

Everyone's favourite journalist Nixon reckons there's a new club in for Lukas Nmecha from City. Hopefully it's us.

Adam Armstrong going to Blackburn for just £1.75m rising to £3m on performance related stuff.

Antonee Robinson gone to Wigan on a season loan.

Both great signings for them, and players to keep an eye on.

That's a brilliant deal for Armstrong.

I should catch up on all the gossip before the game tomorrow whilst having a few pints. Will update. UTB

Good lad. I want the names of ALL the possibles.

And I want you to tell me Luke Freeman's signing...

If Chris Wilder ever leaves United, Cook is my first choice replacement. Good football and quality recruitment.

They've also signed that Kipre from Motherwell today and Darron Gibson on a short-term deal. Both look shrewd pieces of business.

Did you not see Gibson he was the worst midfielder I saw last season. As CW puts it lazy recruitment just signing names.

Sounds like Antonee Robinson has just ran the length of the pitch to set up Wigan's first goal v Wednesday. Good lad.

Hopefully we'll have a LWB who can do that at some point...

And I see Lucas Joao is only on the bench today. There's a chance with him IMO.
