Possible Summer Targets

The same guy who's done that Freeman story says Waghorn's off to Derby as soon as Ipswich sign a replacement.

As if the Vydra stuff was inconsequential all along.

I think the attacking midfielder is more important than a striker. All 3 of clarke, sharp and mcg can finish. If someone like freeman can create the chances those 3 will score.

I'll be annoyed if we miss out on Freeman and Woodburn. But that's what I think will happen.

Not sure where we go from there if we're not interested in Maddison. Kieran Dowell? Josh Windass?

None fit the Duffy role as well as Freeman.

3 strikers is not enough for any squad, every year injuries and poor form come into play - minimum 4 required and I’m not sure Lavery is in CW’s plans ⚔️

Plus, as has been said by many, creating chances wasn't the issue last year. Putting them away was the issue. I'd love it if we got Freeman but I think we'd still be in for a striker or two. Just not Waghorn.

I really liked the look of the lad Kelly at Reading when we did them at their place earlier this year. He single handedly dragged them back into the game in the second half. He played the Duffy role and for a 15 min period we couldn't get near him.

No idea what he looked like the rest of the season but on that performance he looked a good prospect.

I think Wilder wants another 3, not just 2 as he's indicated in interviews.

In which case, Freeman and Gallagher in addition to Woodburn would do nicely. Armstrong if Freeman isn't possible.

I feel we've got to sign a young attacking player permanently. It's alright signing loans but next summer we'd be left with an attacking group made up exclusively of 30 somethings.

Didn't McCabe mention 3 more in during the shareholders meeting last weekend? I think I recall reading it as it caught my eye.

I wonder if there'll be any more outs before the transfer window and probably more relevant, the loan window, shuts - Lavery, Holmes, Lafferty, Eastwood, Norrington-Davies, Wright all possible I'd have thought

What makes you think that?

He seems to like to go with 5 strikers, and Lavery's leaving, as he hasn't even got a squad number.

I think he'll want 2 big CFs, lot of pressure on Clarke if not.

Then there's Freeman, who I think he'll try to sign if it's possible.

He's also previously signed more than he said he will, and what he says in interviews isn't set in stone.

There's also a lot of time left for the loan window.

I can see the logic in that.

Can't see Wilder going for Freeman if we get Woodburn though, would leave us with too many similar type players

Could even be another 4 now if we're signing Kean Bryan.

But we'd surely have to offload the likes of Lafferty and Holmes.

Wouldn't be a bad idea at all to sign Freeman then sign a striker to cover Clarke - a cheaper target man from somewhere.

Charlie Wyke, Apostolos Vellios and Mikael Mandron would all cost under £1m.

We'd be OK then as Woodburn can play as a second striker and I expect McGoldrick to contribute plenty.

Tom Elliot with 1 year left on his Milwall contract another option.

He's a handful. He's a northerner too, from Leeds. We should've signed him or Wyke when we got Hanson.

Not the level we should be looking at really but as I said, it would be acceptable if we signed Freeman.

Bradshaw would be cheap and decent cover at this level.

Is it cover we want tho Robbie?

CW wants to take us to the next level. To me that means bringing better players. Players that actually do improve us. Not cover players, but first teamers and where strikers are concerned, a striker that should be first name on the striker dept team sheet

We might only get one crack at this with the transfer fund available due to the sale of Brooks. Once its gone its gone. Big decisions need to be made

Imo, more cover players are not needed. We have enough of them and I don't want to see our funds wasted on more of what we've already got

One striker who'd really kill two birds with one stone is Lucas Joao.

He's big and strong enough to lead the line but he's also a pacy skillful type. And quite young.

Depends

In my opinion I would take say

Bryan, freeman, Bradshaw and maybe another loan CF signing for the 6-7m its gonna cost to get waghorn.

I think he's as good as Sharp and would fit into our ethos. Obviously Sharp, Clarke and McG are all knocking on a bit. We could use a permanent addition upfront who isn't short-term.

Ticks all the boxes we need. I'm hoping that Wilder knows a lot about Wendy's plight and is waiting to pounce.Probably wishful thinking. He's the type that would make the whole team score more goals, and would give us a decent counter attacking threat. It seems the pigs are trying to get Westwood out; It seems they need at least one out to meet FFP obligations.

For me robbie that's the issue. "As good as" is not were I think we should be. "Better than" to move up a level is what CW is trying to achieve and he has some funds to hopefully achieve that

Wages are an issue but maybe we could pay a bigger fee to effectively allow Wednesday to pay up the excess wages for his last year.

The problem would be his wage expectations after this season. Not sure he'd agree to 15-20k p/w if he's used to silly money there.

We really need to get a move on and sign a striker ? Not as optimistic as some have been so far about this window ?
