3-5-2 will continue to serve us well, but we have lots of options now, and this is a football forum. So we're allowed to chat uneducated shit about tactics and such.

4-2-3-1

- Clarke -
Duffy - Holmes
- Fleck -
Leonard - Lundstram/Evans
Stevens - JOC - Stearman - Baldock
- Moore -

Some real creativity behind Clarke with two all rounder midfielders who can either sit in when the full backs push on or join in with the attacks.

Brooks could play in a free role behind the striker, and we'd have interchangeable options all over. Could be a very sensible option when teams sit very deep, and we need that extra bit of creativity behind the front line.

Fuck knows if it'd work in real life, but it works in my head.

Brooks( when fit) for Duffy

So, getting back to the OP, if we are to persevere with 3 - 5 - 2 and after the last ten games I'm by no means convinced we should, then both Baldock and Stevens need to be replaced since neither has the all round capabilities required in the wing back role ( albeit a difficult and demanding one )

Personally, I would like to see us in a 4-1-2-3 formation as very successfully employed in the past by the likes of Man U and Chelsea . This system allows for the selection of more creative players further forward and for the full backs to get forward on a regular basis, with the holding midfielder dropping off.

I believe we now have the players who could make this system work brilliantly for us and, until Coutts is fit again, my line up would be :-

..............................Moore...............................
Leonard Wright. Stearman O' Connell
..................Lundstram/ Evans................
...................Duffy Fleck.........................
Holmes........Clarke............ Brooks

I'm totally confident that this line up would give all other teams in the division something to think about, which we're certainly not doing at the moment if The Pigs, Bolton and several other games are anything to go by.

I've been a huge fan of the 3-5-2, but completely agree Baldock and Stevens in current form are not offering us enough quality from wide positions. We rely so heavily on getting it wide especially at home when teams camp in and there's no space to play in behind on the break.

A big bonus of the 3-5-2 was to be able to get a second striker alongside Billy, and still have enough in midfield to dominate. But with Holmes now in, and Billy not in form, this could be worth a try.
Holmes and Duffy off Clarke with a midfield of Fleck, Leonard, Lundstrum/Evans could work.
