Do you find these sort of results acceptable ? I find it quite interesting that so called Blades don't seem to be too bothered on being knocked out of a cup competition by a lower division team. Maybe we could have drawn a home tie next round against a top team the gate receipts would go a long way to paying for a decent player or is that what half our team are scared of (you know competition for places).

No metal, its not acceptable, but what can be done about it? Wilson is trying his best & has his hands tied due to lack of funds. Lets try & back the team instead of jumping on their back after one match.

Sad to lose but it seems there is more life in some of these new players than we might have hoped for. No replacement for Ched, no 100 goals coming, but if we can avoid too many injuries we have enough to challenge - no walk in the park but I look forward to the videos.

Has it been explained why we had only five subs?

Worst thing about being knocked out is that there will be fewer games for us to rotate the squad. We have almost 30 players who'll be hoping to play every week. Wilson usually tries to keep a settled squad, so some will be disappointed and won't have many opportunities to show what they can do. This is how their development stops.

Strange seeing as we're skint I would have thought a cup run and the possibility of a plum home tie would have been welcomed as a money spinner or at the least somewhere for the youngsters to get a bit of competitive experience. Having said that youngsters were available for the game but sat in the stands, Danny chose to have only 5 players on the bench leaving 2 spots empty

But I thought you said McCabe nicked any money we earned for himself ,do you want him to get wealthier ?
I think your pissed off because it gives you one less chance of slagging Utd off in the next round.

I see your legit point Bergen, but rotating the 'squad' can also have a 'negative' impact on the team too. Just look at yesterday with Williams for example; ah well, water under the bridge now; I'd hazard a guess that 3pts next Sat will have many a Blade forgetting this game as a distant hic-cup? Well, at least I hope so :)

I think people care more than they should because it's the League Cup. If it were the Paint Pot Cup or whatever it's called this year I doubt it would matter.

Way I see it is: fuck it. It's a game. We lost it despite dominating the match. It happens. I'm not going to spoil my Sunday over it.

Yes you can.

Companies such as newspaper, betting shops and sites such as skysports and the BBC pay a lot of money for a company in Howden, East Riding of Yorkshire to collects all the info from matches. This is done by someone at the ground (usually an ex player of the team) talking over the phone to an operator who inputs every thing into a computer. This is why we have live updates such as goal flash ie the vidiprinter. The person tells the operator when the possession changes and this can vary during the match. The only thing you can't trust is the actual match report, esp for the lower leagues as news outlets just take the details from the match report provided by this company and write something up. The report is very detailed i.e where the shot was taken, where it entered the goal but it is never truly accurate as I've many times read a report the following morning on a match I have covered (inputting the info to the computer) to find it not exactly what happened in the match.

I can't see how a guy talking over the phone can measure possession. My point was that the possession ratio went from a 60 - 40 to 46 - 54 in a blink of an eye.

Yeah, might have drawn a top team and got a few apathetic fans like you to watch their one game a season. Gutted

Bollocks mate, were you even there?

Does anyone need to be there to know there aren't any positive getting knocked out of a cup competiton by a League 2 club, who ten years ago, we're gracing their stuff in the Unibond League?

I nice sensible post there fella ......................... well do you find these sort of results acceptable yes or no ? please enlighten me with an answer and when you say YES please tell me why, I would really be interested to know what make you tick, do you get off on immediately throwing insult at anyone, does that float your boat ? are an insignificant little creep who too scared to be a real life bully boy so has to resort to being the big internet warrior ?

another sensible post rather than debate why we only field 5 sub or debate anything for that matter we have to talk shit. Then again Sitwell I wouldn't expect anything else from you as you have always been a bit of a WUM here and elsewhere.

Thought I'd leave it at least a day before posting on the match and get some perspective on what can only be described as a Poor Performance from most on the pitch.

Williams should not be anywhere near that starting line-up, he is 1 waste of a wage, very very poor signing!! He was at fault for losing possession for both their goals and got turned inside out more than a few times too. Get Rid!

Howard looked shakey after the first goal and looked a bit shell shocked after the second, he is much in the mould of Kenny with his constant parrying but he has time to develop. He needs a solid and consistent back 4 to aid him at the moment and the LB spot is a particular weakness, even though we have 3 of them on the books.

Flynn, I have hopes he can deliver this season but he was a 1 trick pony, he got his half a yard through trickery but couldn't make it 3 with pace because he simply has no acceleration. He was also POOR in truth.

Doyle often went missing as usual, how is he a Captain with his disappearing act is incredible. Macca was pulled out of position on numerous occasions, having to cover for Williams mostly, which made him worthless on the pitch.

Miller huffed and Puffed with Porter up front, but Porter was guilty of losing possession as soon as he brought the ball down, I don't think he knows what a deft flick is, if he did we would have run away easy winners. When Blackman came on he made an instant impact but he also dropped his standards as time passed and he really should have scored at least 1 more goal with the 3 1 on 1's against their keeper he had.

Quinn was decent and McFadzean looked accomplished when he came on for his debut. The other back 3 werte mostly solid as McMahon showed an air of defensive quality we had missing at RB last season. McAllister looked decent when he came on too, but was way too defensive for me tbh.

I'm beginning to not like these defensive formations and substitutions DW keeps trying to make. We were on the attack, Burton were struggling to get out of their own half and he changes the team to a defensive 1, I really don't get it. I'm not happy with what I saw Saturday at all and if that's the starting line-up for this League 1 campaign, we've got major major problems. Time will tell.

Well played Burton, on a memorable win for your club, and also for making some fine products like Beer and Bovril. Cant get too worried about a loss inf front of an almost empty stadium before the good stuff has even started. Now, a loss to Shrewsbury next week would be a different story. Wake up Mr. Williams, the season has started.

No the result is not acceptable but it is not the end of the world. Listening to the radio and reading the comments from the more sensible posters on here that went to the game the performance wasn't bad. We pretty much dominated play and created lots of chances. There are a couple of weak links but plenty of positives. The longer term negative of losing is that if we progressed a couple of rounds players that are on the fringe of the first team would get some competitive games under their belt.
To the rest of your post, well what can I say? I would say that apathetic is a dictionary accepted term for fans that don't really care, don't bother going to games and would rather do something else on a Saturday at 3pm. If you felt bullied by me for calling you and the other 'stay away by choice' fans apathetic then I would suggest that you are rather fragile. Looking at the amount of times I post I make a pretty poor 'internet warrior. I would even go as far to say that my application to such a position is apathetic.
What I do get fed up with is the constant negative stream that comes out of your keyboard as I am bored of the constant anti McCabe posts that Micalijo repeats on a weekly basis, without actually doing anything to back it up. If he hates McCabe and thinks that he is corrupt then get into action and start a group and likewise if you are so disillusioned with SUFC, won't be going to any games, why do you post pretty much constantly on this site? If you'd gone to the game Saturday and came back with some insightful criticism and not just 'phucking disgrace' (it is actually f not ph) then I would read your comments with interest.

I take it by this comment you didn't attend the match yourself either ? no worries unlike you and you ilk I will not be using that as a stick to beat you with. To say we dominated play could be debated with Burton having more possession, plenty of chances yes but only 2 taken and one of those resulting from a missed dubious penalty.

Let's get one thing straight I have been going to the lane since 1962/63 got my first season ticket 70/71 after starting work and followed em home and away. Had a ST for the south stand from 96 to 99 working at the lane got me into games until 2009 when I again had a ST for the kop so I can safely say the number of home games missed can be counted on the fingers of one hand in a period of over 10 years, and no I do not stay away by choice not that I need to explain that to the likes of you making assumptions. And no I don't feel bullied by you either quite frankly if you had made comments in person like you have here a few years ago I'd have kicked your fucking head in.

I don't need English lessons from you thank you If my posts upset you so much I suggest you skip by them

Slight over reaction there but if you would kick somebody's 'fucking head in' for calling you apathetic I would suggest that you have a anger management problem.
My assumption that you stay away by choice were assumed from yourself when you stated in a previous post that this is exactly what you were doing. If now you are stating that there are other reasons behind you not attending then I will take that into consideration when reading your posts :-)
No I didn't attend but then I am not making wild accusations as to the performance.

Could you inform me a) what is a WUM and b)where is elsewhere as I dont post on any other forum ?

I think you will find if you can be bothered to check back that I once posted that "I could not be arsed to take a 4 mile a bus ride to the lane" or words to that effect, certain members of the forum have seized on that post to try to ridicule my viewpoints or to suggest anyone who does not go to a game has no right to post any sort of opinion.
Anger management LMAO I don't even know why I am bothering to have this conversation, it is not like I give a monkey's chuff what you think.

do me a favour pal, I do not for one moment believe you are that stupid.
Maybe I am stupid 'pal' but that is just one in a long line of insults thrown at me for for supporting Utd by yourself an apparent supporter of the same club ,but I really dont have a clue what the hell you are on about :(

Didn't we scrape past Hartlepool on penalties at this stage last season? I thought last season (play offs apart) went quite well overall!

Can't say I was in wrist slashing mode after the match. I think we were a bit under cooked on competitive pre season friendlies and we seemed to play the game as a pre season friendly

Thought Quinn played well, McMahon and Maguire were solid and Blackman looked lively when he came on, though his one on one left me wondering if he is a natural finisher.

Disappointments were the left side of the defence. You could drive a bus through the space between Collins and Williams at times. I am not particularly excited by Hill but he is better than Williams.

Flynn didn't really get in the game and MacDonald looks like he needs more games to get himself match sharp as last year.

The important bit is obviously the goals void now Evans has gone. Wilson has to quickly find the two that are going to gel the best to provide a decent goal ratio. I suspect it will be Cofie and Blackman but no combination has played together very much and we may need to be a little bit patient to find a two that click together.

As it's me, I'll clarify. You live 4 miles away from the lane but "can't bearsed to make a 4 mile bus ride, for the ast 2 years", but want to tell us at every opportunity why McCbe should continue to pump millions into the club elvery year, when you "can't be arsed" to put in a few hundred.

I stand by my point that your oipinion is greaty diminished by yourself refusing to actually support the club in any meaningful way.

I've thought for a while that our pre season's are too easy.

Maybe, but he needs some games under his belt. Shame we didnt get pre season in with him.

I think Williams is awful. I've come to think that Hill can actually defend well. He just can't distribute. We should be able to accomodate tht.

Flynn didn't really get in the game .

I will bare my arse on the town hall steps if he makes a significant contribution this year. Being a "good lad" wont paper over lack of power, pace or trickery from winger.

Agreed. This season's success will be totally reliant on finding some goals from those combo's.
