Strange that they didn't in the weeks following Project Restart while they were here and not in Greece.
The precautions took to ensure players didn’t catch it was unbelievably thorough though. That was never going to be the case after the season had finished.

They just can't stay at home and train safely can they. Twats, got loadsa money, gonna spend it as irresponsibly as I can. Let club, teammates ( although most of them would be doing the same I guess) and fans down.
Oh dear

Apart from being tested regularly, weren't they pretty much free to do as they please (safely) when not at Shirecliffe or Bramall Lane?

Genuine question, not snarky.

It's just called bad luck mate. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think it's like "I'll get there early" syndrome.

Everyone thinks it's safe, so they go to Croatia, Greece etc but everyone thinks that and it suddenly becomes a virus hotspot because everyone's taken their guard down.

Yeah but as government advice was pretty much ‘don’t leave the house’ most have been doing that. The turnaround in games didn’t leave much time to galavant around either.

They are entitled to a break, and if they’ve caught it abroad they could’ve quite easily caught it in Newquay

I’m not going to chastise them for going for a holiday (where they were training anyway). Wilder won’t be. The board won’t be. We shouldn’t.

No it's fair enough, people have caught it in the UK etc but I just think going to a holiday hotspot like Mykanos where everyone's going to be getting trollied and not really paying attention to Covid protocol, isn't the most intelligent thing these professional footballers have done and does increase the risk.

I get that people want a break from it all but it doesn't go away because you're fed up of it.

To be honest I think the club's could have taken more responsibility, get together and get them all in the same resort to minimise risk.

Anyway, I hope they're asymptomatic and back soon.

Mate, no disrespect but I would hate to be in the trenches with you. I can just imagine it ......................................................... omg, omg, omg there's Germans everywhere. We are doomed!!!

Me - yes of course there are. It's fuckin war! I have this great big gun in my hand but in order to use it I have to put my head above the trench from time to time and risk being shot myself - otherwise we really are doomed!

Don't underestimate the mental health factors associated with this pandemic. Life can't just stop. Of course we have to be sensible and take precautions but we also have to do what we do to try to live as normal a life as possible. Unless we lock all footballers up in a room somewhere there is a risk of catching this virus. They were unlucky. Shit happens sometimes. Let's not dramatise it, lets's just accept it and get on with it.

Except in this scenario there's no gun to kill the enemy with.

I'd be more like "oh look, Nazis. Best avoid them because we're unarmed" to be honest and go somewhere else.

Think you're being a bit dramatic really anyway, we're not in the trenches, more like we're in a thunderstorm. You increase the risk of getting wet if you go out in the rain without a coat or an umbrella, outside chance of you getting hit by lightning or getting hypothermia and carking it. It's just easily avoided and they have the cash to take more precautions than us plebs who have to go on public transport and go in Wilko.

I'm not saying they should be shot at dawn or anything.

I would put them to the final test ....................................... I would ask them what their meal of choice would be, if they were to be shot at dawn. If they answered 'moussaka', that's it, I'd shoot the bastards!

How can you roll out such nonsense when you have no idea about what precautions the club have taken along with the players?

Many footballers normally go to Dubai in the summer for holiday and also training. As the UAE isn’t yet a quarantine free location, it rules it out.

Greece and Croatia weren’t on the list when the players went. Spain was.

For all we know the players could’ve caught Covid at Manchester airport or in the barbers when they got home

I’ve been to Mykonos a few times and whilst there are party areas, it’s not like the entire island is either a Covid hotspot or a party island where everyone is stumbling around drunk. It’s an island with lots of exclusive resorts - which probably makes security higher at resorts than most places

Again, like the mousse thread, people are jumping all over the players for catching a virus which is highly contagious and you’re just as likely to catch it from a petrol pump as you are from a bar in the Greek islands

Footballers are entitled to holidays. Like anyone else. I’ve not had a summer holiday this year as I don’t want to travel until schools are back, I’ll get away to a location which is hopefully putting measures in place after this. Families and footballers don’t have this choice if they want to get some sunshine. I don’t begrudge anyone that.

I couldn’t agree more.

Go to Skiathos.. no cases and v friendly island with some great restaurants and beaches.

So many fantastic places in the Greek islands

One of the most stunning islands I’ve been to, Paros Had a spike in cases recently. It’s a fantastic island, no 18-30’s style drinking areas and so relaxing. It’s only accessible by boat as there’s no airport.

That’s on my list to go to. Like you say so many. They’re very happy to see us currently... more than ever !

The infection rate in Greece is lower than here...

That is true if we are talking about overall infection rate since the start of the pandemic.

However if we are talking about more recently, Greece has more infections, more deaths and more serious/critical cases per million of population.

Going from last Monday to today, they have recorded 1589 Covid19 cases and 14 deaths. They currently have 31 cases classed as serious/ critical. Their population is 10.4 million. The UK population is 67.9 million. That is 6.5 times higher than the population of Greece.
Multiplying their figures by 6.5 gives 10,328 cases , 91 deaths and 201 serious/critical cases.

Looking at the same time period for the UK, we have had 7,158 cases, 63 deaths and we currently have 76 critical/serious cases.

So, in the here and now our figures are significantly lower than those being recorded in Greece.

(Incidentally we also currently have fewer cases and fewer critical/serious cases than Germany as well).

13 posts in nearly 4 years? Which one are you then JoC, Fleck, Moore, Knill, one of the other back roomers who turned up at the same time? - Don't reckon you're the boss.

None of those ... Apologies, I wasn’t aware of the rule that said you had to make lots of stupid mindless comments like you do, to qualify as someone who knows a few things. I have access to a number of players through my business, but don’t post often ( mainly due to people like you ) and once again, always wish I hadn’t bothered:)

Aaaw and I really liked you before you decided to show how much of a prick you are! :)
PS try to lighten up your heart will thank you for it.

Can’t compete with your laser sharp wit and intellect and won’t sleep now I know you don’t like me..

I was always taught not to argue with idiots - They will always drag you down to their level and beat you with their vast experience... So I’ll leave you to argue with yourself or others ..

Sorry I nodded off before getting to the end of that, you're an interesting chap and I look forward to your next comment in 4 years time.

and to pre-empt the abuse, I'm not sure people realise how COVID-19 works. It's not always just a case of catching it, self-isolating and then being fine again. There are a significant proportion of people who have recovered from it but still have symptoms which mean they cannot live their lives normally.

If that happens to a professional athlete, as with other respiratory diseases, they could not fully recover for over a year.

As it is, two players won't be fully ready for the start of the season. Imagine if it was much worse? Imagine if it is two of our most important players? Imagine if because two of our first team aren't fully prepared, that we lose out first two games. And we take that form forward and we're bottom of the table after 10 games. Imagine if we failed to really recover from the slump. Imagine us getting relegated. Football is about fine margins.

Just so the lads could get pissed with their mates in Greece?

Now, that lot probably won;t happen, but it could.

Footballs their job, their private life is just that, private.
Would you be happy if your employer told you what you can and can’t do outside work?

After saying the above, I agree the players should have a bit more common.

If the players who went abroad thought it was okay to do so,
why didn't they just tell the club and ask if it was okay to travel?
It's not too difficult, especially as the reports always say that Wilder
has built up a squad that play for each other, there's no I in us.

Sportsmen are banned from doing dangerous sports like skiing and the like in their contracts so there is already a way clubs control players off time. Something tells me nothing about travel in a pandemic right now but maybe in the future!

Are you required to tell your employer your movements outside work, and who says they didn’t?
This is England, not South Korea.

What about Skier’s, are they banned from Skiing?
I get what your saying about certain things in contracts, we all have them in employment contracts.
I’m guessing going on holiday during off season isn’t one of them.

When in times such as these, where there's a worldwide pandemic going around, there's folks dying in their thousands,
countries are, within hours, are being classed as no-go zones, when there's a 10/14 day rule quarantine applied for people
travelling back to the UK, what do you think?

What's South Korea got to do in all this?

Haa so he must be in Greece to "better prepare for the season"? Dont talk daft. Let me know which player and which performance centre you are on about and I will apologise in person to the lad.
I did not name any player at all because I dont know who it was. You obviously do, so tell us who it is? are you his trainer?
Can he not run in a moderate climate?
I was talkin about the public in general with the twat remark.
From your reaction u seem to have inside knowledge about which idiot from united is pretending to be in training whilst really going on the piss in Greece?
Also, you are wrong about his chances of catching it over here too. If hes in a bar surrounded by other daft twats he's more chance of catching it.
If u cant see that, you shouldn't be commenting on a sensible post and taken offence on something I never said.
So your suggesting everybody should stay at home an not leave the house? Ive had a niece age 5 who had it an yes she is classed as vulnerable because of certain issues it did not affect her in the slightest. Everybody can act to it as they wish me myself am not influenced by the scaremongering bullshit we keep being fed from the media. Everybody has the right to act as they wish ive been out to the pub every weekend since they've reopened im currently in greece enjoying my holiday that I've worked hard for. Do not believe everything your fed but act as you wish an do not judge others.
