Looking at the form of the top 10 its easy to see how poor this league is and that there's no real run away contender for promotion this season.

Our best shot to get out this division in the whole time we've been down here, if we don't do it we really have ballsed up.

Its a deliberate plan. Don't draw attention to the team. Then when it matters after January, the 'Stars' we have will not be so certain of being top quality to other teams, therefore they won't gamble on buying them but we'll know;).

That table just means teams are evenly matched. This season could equally well be the greatest challenge in the history of Division 3 football.

;-)

It's an incredibly poor league, made up of considerably poor teams.

The depressing thing is we're fitting in perfectly amongst them.

I agree but I think every season someone points out it is a poor league and probably the poorest L1 ever and say we must go up. Our best chances were under Wilson when he cocked up in the 1st season and he had the rug pulled from under him the second season. Now we have a team of bottlers and a manager who really cant mould a squad he would like until the end of the season when the majority of them will leave.

It is a third tier league, and bearing mind the garbage served up in some top tier games, the games aren't going to the best entertainment or quality. The difference this season is there appears to be no stand out team like Charlton, Brentford ,Bristol City and Bournemouth as in previous seasons which means we will probably stay in touch (which I know isn't good enough based on cost of our squad) and hopefully get a top two place ( yes I know...I'm deluded :-) )

The damage is being done on a weekly basis. Yes, it is a shit league (Gillingham top with 31 points out of a possible 45...) but we should be grabbing this division by the bollocks. When somebody like Wigan or Coventry hit their stride, we'll be left behind. Any half-decent team should be over the horizon by now.

Surely the best way to assess the strength of the league is to watch the games and make a judgement on whether the quality of the football is better or worse than previous seasons?

Cant see where people are coming from.if they dont think this league is getting poorer every year

Its nothing to do with size of clubs/crowds either its just to.do with the fact if we tried i mean actually went out and gave it our best shot every week we would fucking romp it

But we dont

How come the team aren't performing well consistently, I'm finding it hard to find a really desperately weak player in the first team on paper, and 90% of visitors to our place would snatch our hands off to have Connor salmon, somebody who at the minute is out of sorts, but on his day a matchwinner...

Billly sharp would walk into every team in this division, so would Baxter, Adams, Hammond, and everybody wants a winger like jcr, he's been great, but they haven't been finishing the chances he's layed on, that's why I add him to the list..

We need to click, sort the defence out, personally I think we need a keeper, said it from day one because Howard's no good from distance, and the defence expose him close in, so it's a problem doubled, sorting the defence would just encourage opposition to shoot from distance, meaning we'd still concede..

Not much is wrong with the first team other than centre halfs and goalie now Hammond has arrived... We just need to learn to play as a team..

No keeper coming in and no other players either, for now, according to NA in another thread.

Something most of us have been aware of for about 2 years now. However a lot of people say that we don't need anybody else up front. I disagree. Against Millwall - and a lot of other games - we're pretty toothless.

If only we had spent that £100k on Jamie Vardy a few years ago!!

Including Baxter who was our main goal threat under clough, we have..

Sharp
Sammon
Done
Adams
McNulty
Degirolomo
Baxter
And Higdon on loan..

With the correct service they'd all be capable of 20 goals in this division, imagine Murphy and jcr feeding those forwards....

Think we scuppered ourselves again just like we did with McGuire last season, anyway.. Water under the bridge, let's push on...

Might have got carried away with higgo though..

Good point, although a lot of Baxter's goals came from penalties. The last big scoring midfielder working from memory, was Lee Williamson, and he was injured a lot, which makes his goals to games ratio even better (again from memory).

and I'm told he would have come as well, as would lefondre, who was another one we dallied over and lost out on...

I think most clubs would have been looking at him. He went on trial at Crewe (while playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels) and they sent him back!

I suppose it was always one of those "too good to be true!" things. If this kid is so good, how come another team hasn't snapped him up?

I've said it from day 1.

Wigan top
Sheff Utd second

Remember it's a marathon not a sprint. Wigan & Sheff Utd haven't even started playing anywhere near their potential.

Both clubs had a poor start but it's ominous for the league that both are on the edge of the playoffs.

After Christmas both clubs will show their quality. Mark my words.

Said this yesterday, if we can go on a run and Wigan do too, we'll be taking points off each other's rivals, but we have to do our bit, I think we can still win this league, it's gonna take a culture change from the first team and Adkins to do it, and yes Adkins has dropped a few clangers, anybody at Oldham who watched scougall and Sammon linking up can testify to this....

Maybe our owners need to deliver a well timed kick up the Arse to the first team and the management team, it wouldn't hurt them to get some proper focus would it..

Think you may be getting confused. I read an article about Vardy t'other day and it was Wendy who had him and got rid:

After being released by Sheffield Wednesday at the age of sixteen, Vardy began his senior career with Stocksbridge Park Steels, breaking into the first team in 2007 and spending three seasons before joining Northern Premier League side Halifax Town in 2010. Scoring 27 goals in his debut season, he won the club's "Player's Player of the Year" award. He started the 2011–12 season with Halifax but moved to Conference Premier side Fleetwood Town in August 2011 for an undisclosed fee, then scored 31 league goals in his first season at his new team, winning the team's "Player of the Year" award as they sealed the Conference Premier title. In May 2012, he signed for Leicester City in the Football League Championship for a non-league record transfer fee of £1 million, and represented the club in the Premier League after winning the Championship in 2014. Link.

Hard to believe, I know. Now if it had been Cantona...:D
