We haven’t spent anything like what people ‘wanted’ over past 3 years but things haven’t worked out so bad.

If Wilder only spends 1 million but gets 4 players that’s good enough for me.

I think we’ll sigh 3-4 players, I think people will be up in arms about ‘lack of spending’ but we’ll go on to stay up.

Spending money doesn't mean big names, big wages, primadonnas and a two tier dressing room though does it.

It does if the rumours about Assssssomballlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllonnnnnnnnmnnmnnngggggggaaaaaaaa are true.

I put £40-50m not that I expect him to get anything like that more likely they will give him £25m tops and see how it goes until January.

I don’t like the question. It’s not a case of ‘how much’ but who?

To me, we need 4 quality first team players to make us competitive next year. Wilder needs to identify them, and we pay whatever it costs.

It might be that 2 are free and the others are £10m a piece. It might be that they are a combined £50. But we have to pay it.

I don’t think the amount is relevant but it’s more about giving Wilder who he wants to give us the best chance of survival. This is not a time to be settling for 2nd best because they’re 2 bob cheaper.

40-50 now, maybe another 15-20 In January if needed.the rest for infrastructure remodelling the kop and south stand and possibly pay off any outstanding loans from outside the club.then even if we are relegated we will have parachute payments on top of a solid financial base.if not relegated then next season up the transfer kitty and make a fist of becoming a solid Everton type prem club.

Should? As in 'deserve'? £50m.
Realistically I would be ok with anything over £20m.

I honestly can't imagine us singing anyone over 10m, I'm not saying we won't I just can't get my head around our club being able to even do that.

I'm surprised at the amount of people voting £20m-£30m.

For me, that would demand yet another Wilder masterclass in the transfer window.

I don't think it would be that fair to rely on that again as let's not forget this is his first time managing in the PL.

Ideally I suspect he will want a bit of a buffer.

How about one of these? Hard as nails and Sheffield through and through.

I think a new striker, centre mid, central defender Cahill from Chelsea local lad played for us before on loan not sure if his contracts up but not playing for Chelsea.
Hendo back on loan from Man U or buy him with Man U first option to buy him back at a set fee if he does coming the next England keeper

As I have stated elsewhere:

Wilder on record as saying the budget for transfers will be similar to the one quoted by Norwich

Wilder on record as saying he wants the training facilities upgraded.

Promoted squad all have a decent bonus for promotion to be paid

Retained players will all have a hefty salary increase.

The media centre is being sorted as we speak.

Wilder is on record as saying, if the club does go down he wants to ensure it is in a very strong position financially compared to before promotion.

Given all the above, head out the clouds Blades, not more than £25m on transfer fees. If that brings in 6 players you're looking at an additional c.£12m for the season as their salaries. In the mad, mad world of the Premier League £120m doesn't really go very far.

£40k per week is £2m a year. We get 85 times that amount for merely existing in he premier league.
Yeah but we're gonna sign more than 1 player aren't we. Plus, the club has been making a loss since forever, a decent chunk of the cash we receive wil lgo to recouping losses, infrastructure improvements etc.

When I butter my sandwiches I make sure the whole surface is covered.

The increase in club income next year has to cover a lot of areas that cannot be ignored. Players is just one area of spending. Go up and stay up using the bestest butter we’ve got. Wilder, Knill and Mitchell. (Slightly salted) :)

Can't believe how many want to force Wilder to work another miracle with only £10-20m....

Force? I think most people are voting what they think he will get. Wilder thinks he will get £20 million also. £20 million in the summer could buy you 4 x £15million players though as you usually pay in instalments.

It's a piece of phish Ricky, innit? The league is full of Norwoods & Egans all ready for us to snaffle up at a 1/10th of their value. Gerrum signed in June, gerrum bedded in by JUly, hope they hit the ground running in August.

If you're climbing Mnt Everest and you ask an expert and they say "going by the last decade, to climb to the top & back down safely, you need £100k of kit. If you spend £120k, you are covered for all eventualities and misfortune, you may get away with 80k's worth if conditions are good. You're certainly risking it if you spend £60k, and you'll just about get up, but not back on £40k." You'd be foolish to think "I'll go with £40k and i'll borrow some bits & pieces from other climbers as I go. I did the same thing on Ben Nevis last year and everything was ok".

“Let’s just say it’ll (budget) be a healthy one,” McCabe continued.

“Well look, we’re not in the Premier League for fun. And when you play in any market you can’t buck it. So it’s considering carefully.

“We’re not going to be rash, we’re not going to be stupid. We accept that the world of football sees clubs go down.”

If it turns out to be anything other than 'healthy', he will have some serious questions to answer.
How do you define 'healthy'?
Think Huddersfield first season promoted.

I struggle with the amount of people on here who seem to think that size of transfer fees are an indicator of ambition. They aren’t. Some great PL players have cost very little. Juventus are getting Ramsey for nothing, as an extreme example. Also, how much did Liverpool pay Hull for Robertson? There are loads of examples. The true indicator will be the wage bill, that’s where most of our new found wealth will rightly be going. Its about identifying potential and working with it to improve it, and the size of the transfer fee is not the key factor. Happy that we’ve got Paul Mitchell, wish we had an overseas scouting network, but I trust our lot to get it right.

Read everything and nothing into Kev's words. None of which is to suggest he's misleading us, but get a grip if you find you're being swayed by what he says.

The owners will have done the sums, they'll know what's at stake and whether it's worth supporting the manager. Dependent on their intentions it may well be like a weather vane, so don't hold your breath, it'll all become clear soon enough.

Ramsey is getting £400k a week before tax, a £8m signing on fee & Juve are having to pay £3.75m to Arsenal as compensation.

£8m with £2m add ons.

I’m not sure if your point. I was making the point that tweaking a few players wages doesn’t scratch the surface of premier league income.

United will get £160m for gaining promotion, £80m up front, rest at the end of the season (plus any additional bonuses based on position achieved, equates to £500k per position). To not give Wilder at least half of that initial fee is unthinkable madness.

Wrong.

Don’t know where you’ve got those figures from, mate. Last season WBA got a total of £95m.

You see all sorts of numbers, don’t you?

According to this, they got £120,000,000 from TV and media alone. That’s not including any other spin offs from being there, such as vastly increased sponsorship.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....06/premier-league-finances-club-guide-2016-17

It’s gone up since then, I believe, as they’ve struck other deals.

In the 2017-18 season, every club in the Premier League was handed a basic £80.4m, added to that was an additional guaranteed £12.4m for TV rights and the team who finished bottom got £1.9m in prize money. So for us, worse case scenario it's something in the region of £94.7m. You get a bit more if you feature 10 or more times ont' telly.

Obviously, there are other financial benefits from being in the prem, such as our 'watch this space' shirt sponsor and the additional commercial opportunities, as the commercial team can basically start sticking zeros on numbers they quote. So that side of promotion is probably worth an additional £3m to 5m next season.

So give or take a quid or two, I suspect we're looking at £100m. I suspect at least 40% of that will go on paying promotion bonuses, increasing wages, improving the infrastructure & training facilities.

Okay. From my limited, low angle trajectory, here's what I think is needed. Quite What Wilder thinks and knows here is suspended. The aim is to defend our way into 17th place, and not get fucking bummed into jelly every fucking week home and away and have Alan Shearer and those smug fuckers review our games barely hiding their complacent smirks and grins on MotD. The mission is survival and retention of the name Sheffield United with dignity. Forget Warnock, forget Bassett, forget Harris. This is Wilder, 2019-20.

We need a PL level goalkeeper. Moore is seriously out of match practice and is not good enough at this level. So, in effect, a £10-13m shot stopper would be in the post 33 age level, plus another capable of stepping in on loan. Ditch the rest. They'll never play.

Let's assume Wilder still chooses the current setup, and there's no reason why not (although he will need a robust Plan B)

Wingbacks. I don't think that either Freeman nor Baldock have the potatoes to defend and track at PL standard. Baldock could be a possible bench warmer, but we need someone again with experience - £15-18m - who can do the hard yards up the touchline and graft when it comes to making the likes of Raheen Sterling's afternoon less easy than it will be. Enda will be okay on the other side, but again, a loanee might not go amiss who has the capability to work to instructions. Putting the likes of Dowell in there will be fucking fatal.

Centrebacks. I think another decent, if not aged and seasoned CB (the likes of Cahill) would be apt. All three current plus Stearman won't last the whole season without injuries and suspensions, so we need some depth. And I don't think we'll get away with the attacking centrebacks any more. PL teams are far too good at cancelling basic overloads like that out and then going straight on the counter. I think we've chanced our luck this season and it's paid off. Besides, our CBs will be far too occupied stopping the very talented attack threats in the PL to be much fucked about bombing on and crossing to an unmarked Didsy or Billy to tap in.

Midfield. A real weak area where we will be over-run. The current drop-two, Norwood and Fleck, will struggle, even against midfields of sides like Burnley and Wolves. I think they are 'okay' in the Championship, but we do need £30m+ spent on more agile, more intelligent workhorses who will press, harry and basically stop the likes of Matic (even at his age), De Bruyne, Henderson from just dominating and wearing us out.

Attacking Midfield. Our first signing. Is Dowell good enough? No. He's too one dimensional, limited in capability and doesn't work hard enough (or at least as much as the tiring Duffy) for me. There's a reason Everton shipped him out and it's because he's not capable enough to go on the attack and either lay off intelligently or smash it in from the penalty D. We possibly need this to be our most expensive purchase, and £25m is the bare minimum. This is where the goals should come from and invariably does in the PL. We also need backup and depth, so the CM purchases should be either capable of doing this role or we should make a loan/purchase of a decent, pacey Champ/foreign talent to mix things up. PL teams need to fear us from this position.

Striker. Billy and Didsy are barely sufficient against top level defences and I'd be surprised to see either break double figures next season. We need pace and intelligence, and/or someone who is an old fashioned, does-nowt-else-but-boots-it-in-the-net centre forward like Murray who much of the midfield and wingbacks can anticipate being in this space in three passes time and is actually there. And we need clinical finishing, no 'oh, we grazed the post' or 'it went straight down the keeper's throat' when it drops in the box. The net needs to bulge eight times out of ten. That costs £25-30m.

So, in total, we are talking £13m + £18m + £30m + £25m + £30m. That's £116m, without loanees and contracting the likes of Cahill when he's released. That's to survive, not go mid-table.

Impossible. Dream on.

pommpey

Keep smiling
