How much should Wilder have to spend?
Fees only.
This is where it becomes daft and silly season.
A £10 million player will want paying at least £30k pw.
To protect its investment, the club will need to secure a 3-4 year contract (say 4).
That’s £16 million on one player.
Someone mentioned we need at least 8 new players.
The point of stating this is, don’t expect to run before we can walk.
UTB
I fear £20m would not be enough but if we can come 2nd (nearly win) the championship with one of the lowest budgets in it then I suppose anything is possible. It’s often tricky because wages can be massive in the PL, so even a free transfer can prove mega expensive.
I’m expecting the annual expenditure to be 25 millionish
But that might mean 20 million in the Summer and 5 million in the January window.
Excellent point above, no doubt some of the transfers will be undisclosed..so no one will really know.
Really believe the key is to improve the squad that even if we were immediately relegated, we would then be big favourites to gain instant promotion again.
Anybody saying under £30m should realise we need 8 signings at the very least and that realistically only 2 can be loans.
Under £30m would be ludicrous.Anybody saying under £30m should realise we need 8 signings at the very least and that realistically only 2 can be loans.
He’s not forced to be chasing bargains.Normally I’d agree but Wilder seems to be able to pull rabbits out of hats.
The problem is CW will be looking for value for money but many clubs will now play games and double their asking price.
They’ll know we’re a PL club and even if we plead poverty, they know we are loaded, so signings might be more difficult than expected.
Hope I’m wrong but Wilder might be in for a shock when we target average squad players with big potential.
We bid 2 million but the selling clubs asks for 10 million.
Key positions to fill and some guess work:
GK - Loan or £5-10m
RCB - back up £500k-1m
LWB - back up £500k-1m
CM - Loan £3-5m
AM - perhaps Dowell £8m touted
Striker - ‘Hogan’ type £5-10m
Target Man - £3-5m
Total £25-40m.
I think anymore than £30m would be excessive and certainly wouldn’t want us to throw that sort of cash around in the summer, so I expect the GK or central/ attacking midfield positions to be loans
I also expect that we’ll go for two loans in the summer and hold two back until jan
Thought there was 4 in the prem? Or is it a total of 4You can only have two loans at a time, so you can either have two season long loans or two in the summer they go back then two in January.

He’s also not forced to splash daft money on players like £20m on Maupay. He’s not forced to be chasing bargains.
That was needs must when we were funded by relatively poor owners.
We now get well on excess of £100,0000,000 from TV rights alone.
£50-£60m would be ideal
