Apologies if someone has covered this in a previous thread, but as it's possible we could finish with 92 points from 46 games, and still not go up, I was wondering how many times (since three points for a win) a team has averaged two points a game and not been promoted. Can't be that common surely – I have always regarded an average two points as pretty much guaranteeing automatic promotion.

The record is 90 by Sunderland in 199-something...

Never.

The highest points total anyone has acheived without going up is Sunderland's 90 in 97-98.

Thanks for the information. It's an achievement of sorts, although it won't make me feel any better at all if we are playing at Shrewsbury next season.
