For me, I think McNulty (a natural finisher) will come on a lot as will Matty Done. The prospect of one of the two being paired with another striker is really exciting.

It will be interesting to see how things impact on Reed and Che Adams as well, Soton by reputation always have brought through good youngsters and Adkins played half the youth team at Reading. I also think Scougall will come good as he has bags of talent and Adkins likes mobile, pacy players. Having seen us put 5 past Swindon, we know there's plenty of firepower in the squad, but the system basically nullified its use. For me there's loads of talent in there as we did get Top 6, we just need two good centre halves and possibly a centre mid and a striker at a push.

One interesting one is whether Diego will get another go under Adkins. It would be a shame to see him go without having a proper chance.

Exciting times!! UTB

Much depends on the intended formation for the following players ( key men starred)

Coutts*, but not in 4-4-2. In a 5 man midfield could run the show, needs runners and workers all around him.

Freeman as a wing back not a full back.

Basham in central defence, not in midfield though now (IMO).

Kennedy* if he gets fit

Flynn as wing back

Done in a two up front but also as a one.

McNulty in a two up front, not a one

Baxter* as a "No.10" nowhere else

Adams* as an impact player in numerous positions

Brayford**, Murphy**, J.Wallace** and Reed* in any formation

Harris as a wing back, struggle at full back

Alcock as defensive full back but not overlapping role

Others with a lot to do:

Howard may or may not welcome an ex-keeper as boss.
Scougall has a lot to do but can come good
Cuvelier
Diego

No hopers: McEveley and Higdon

We need another double starred player in defence, in midfield and striker.

We will have to wait and see but the positive for us fans and players , is that we are now in the hands of a professional expert . All players should flourish under Adkins . If not , it is the player who will have a problem , and no doubt be moved on.

Diego will now sign his new contract

Interesting that no one is mentioning Connor Dimaio. Has he really been written off that quickly?

I don't disagree with the general sentiments that a fresh start will hopefully bring out the best in players, but from listening to this interview:

https://audioboom.com/boos/3244326-new-sufc-boss-nigel-adkins

it sounded like him playing all the youth at Reading was more enforced on him due to financial constraints, rather than a deliberate ethos.

Given Adkin's physiotherapy background, I can see a much more scientific approach to conditioning and fitness being implemented which can only benefit some of the players on the book.

Players I see as potentially flourishing are the more technically gifted players on the books: Done, Coutts (he'll be a different player with a full pre-season behind him), Wallace, Freeman and Cuvelier. I think he'll be good for the younger players too - didn't Lallana and Shaw come through on Adkins' watch at Soton?

They system, whilst restrictive, was not the major problem last season. The major issue was the personnel.

We did not have players of the quality require to get out of the division, it's simple as that. I don't believe Afkins is capable of getting much more out of our existing squad. What I do believe e is capable of is bringing in players who will improve us all over the pitch, whilst identfying which of our current squad would conpliment the new lot.

We require improvement in every area of the pitch (except perhaps full back). I can see a well thought out and experience transfer window this summer.

I reckon he will - he seems very big on the "belief" and "motivational" aspects of management. Quite a few of our players towards the end of the season looked too scared to make a mistake.

Is there any reason for SUFC to play any League game next season with one up front ......... honestly, is there ?

Yeovil were relegated, so thats one toughy out the way
