Players who initially impressed but then turned out pants.

On the back of last night really as Done had a decent bow which has rightly earned him some credit but I just wondered if anyone could name any players who started off really well like Done did last night and got our hopes up only to turn out to be half the player who we thought they would be?.

Jim Bone was someone I always had admired when he was at Norwich and was delighted when we signed him.

Never set us on fire.

Steve Neville.
Martin Peters.

I was going to include Richard Cadette but he was shit from day one.

That lad from Man Utd we had on loan two or three years back. Striker. Chicken with no head. Didn't like a tackle. Scored a fantastic goal at BL, at kop end, bent into top corner from just outside the box, in either a first round League Cup game or a pre-season friendly. Might not have been his first game tho.

Help me out with his name someone ?

Turned out shite anyway :)
Cofee? Went to Rotherham after us?
Scored a screamer at the New York stadium too.
If it was I txt my mate saying that we were finally replacing ched- oops

I did like him and he hit it off well with Dearden and his goalscoring ratio (scored against Everton, Derby, Arsenal and Spurs) was decent too. He always wanted to go back to Scotland and Furphy didnt rate him as Harris did so he went back to Scotland

Im sure blades of a certain age will remember, dare I mention......Chris Guthrie..

Had an absolute blinder against Derby, who were champions, on his debut. Won every header. Looked to have a good touch and a great shot on him.
Then every game after was a complete waste of time. Could nt pass, could nt shoot, could nt head. Could barely stand stand up. It got to a point that whenever he got injured the kop was braying for him to be taken off.

Sorry if i ve given any older blades nightmare flashbacks.

I remember Jonathan Hunt (on loand and then later bought from Derby along with Rob Kozluk as part of the deal where Borbokis went to them, I think). On his debut against Birmingham, he had a sensational first ten minutes. I remember thinking "at last, we've found a midfielder with composure and quality - we're definitely going to get promoted soon". We lost 2-0, he became one of the most anonymous players that I've ever (not) seen for the Blades, and we formally entered the Wilderness Years.

Peter withe

Ahmed Fati, who looked a tidy footballer but was built like Charles Hawtrey

Willie Falconer. Scored on debut (v Swindon at the Lane I recall) in the PL, then disappeared down Jamie Hoylands trapdoor!

That was the one i was going to mention.

We signed him from Middlesbrough for half a million which was a lot of money for United at the time, he ended up getting sold a few months later to Celtic

David Cotterill loved him when he was on loan then leveled off when we bought him.

A long term saga, played out over a number of years/forums, whereby a couple of players (of which Brian Howard is one) may not be mentioned without raising the blood pressure to unacceptable levels.

The other player did not initially impress...
