On the back of last night really as Done had a decent bow which has rightly earned him some credit but I just wondered if anyone could name any players who started off really well like Done did last night and got our hopes up only to turn out to be half the player who we thought they would be?.

Tony Daws

parrino, that's the one. Also Bruno ribero, he was more like the Diego of his day

Calve? I only ever remember him scoring 'that' goal and that was about it. Don't think that was in his first game though was it.

Jean Calve ? (I think he was French thou)

Remember that goal against PNE. In fact i'm digging the video out as I still enjoy watching it!

As said wasn't his debut, he was a bench warmer for a while prior wasn't he?

That lad from Man Utd we had on loan two or three years back. Striker. Chicken with no head. Didn't like a tackle. Scored a fantastic goal at BL, at kop end, bent into top corner from just outside the box, in either a first round League Cup game or a pre-season friendly. Might not have been his first game tho.

Help me out with his name someone ?

Turned out shite anyway :-)

John Cofie? I remember him scoring a belter at the Lane end I think, possibly against Bournemouth early in the season in the league. Might have been 5-3 or something silly.

Ade akinbadbuy.

Poor Ade. Not sure he qualifies for this thread, as everyone knew he was crap before he came to us.

One of the funniest, but also saddest moments, I've ever had following the Blades away from home came courtesy of Ade, after he'd left us and moved to Burnley. It was the game where Beattie scored an outrageous free-kick from miles out.

Ade came on for Burnley late in the second half, from memory. As the official was checking his studs and he was preparing to run on, Utd fans set up a loud mass chant of appreciation for a former player--"Der der der-der, Akin-buy-ee, der der der-der, Akin-buy-ee". Ade looked at the away end, appeared to smile, held up a grateful-looking hand in acknowledgment, and ran onto the pitch.

At which point the second verse--"Der der der-der, fucking useless"--kicked in. I swear you could see him physically deflate from 80 yards away. I laughed and cried at about the same moment. So cruel !
