Players we have sold for more than he is really worth

Think this thread is too early to say we have sold Adams for more than he is worth. We don't know. Brum may have got a steal and he may go on and be a great player. Worth revisiting in 2-3 years!

Surprised people are claiming Lowton is worth less than we got. He played a full season in the prem for Villa, another for a promotion winning Championship team. What is he worth now?

He was and remains a talented footballer and I miss watching those.

Indeed, when you consider the detritus that's occupied his spot since I'm dumbfounded he could be considered in this thread.

Genuine question - how many you reckon we will bring in between now and deadline day?

Problem here is Silent you cannot yet say whether Adams is over valued. He bangs in 20 goals next season and suddenly we look daft.

Agana to Notts County. DB knew what he was doing there.

Borbokis never gave Derby value for money either.

I agree with you about Agana - starting missing a lot of games through injury and £750k at the time was good business IMHO.

Sat behind him at Bolton on Saturday. Don't think his value would have gone up as he's second choice right back.

1979 - Ian Benjamin to WBA
1983 - Alan Young to Notts County (we got all the money back for an injury prone player)
1999 - Olivier Tebily to Celtic
1999 - Lee Morris to Derby (I liked him but he never was the same player when he got the injury when playing for us
2001 - Wayne Quinn to Newcastle
2016 - Che Adams to Birmingham

Any more?

Tebil ended up playing DM for Birmingham in the Premiership didn't he?

Add in Borbokis and Derby have certainly been getting payback over the last few years!

We made a profit on Mikele Leigertwood. Wasn't a bad player, but I can't argue with the £900,000 transfer fee either.

Ian Benjamin is my favourite. 5 appearances, 3 goals and zoomed off to sink without trace. I thought WBA thought they were signing Trenton Wiggan but ended up accidentally with the better player. Just.

If "without trace" means play league football until 1996, scoring 120 goals, I'd agree with you.

Benjamin was one of the stupid Haslam sales where in the space of 2 years he sold Stainrod, Benjamin, Campbell, Edwards, and Varadi - all of whom scored between 120 and 250 league goals - and replaced them with Alex Sabella and a pile of crap, leading to relegation twice in 3 years.

Only McCabe has done more damage to United in the modern era.

How many matches and goals in the top two tier then?

Probably not many. Given we were in the third tier when we sold him, and remained in the third or fourth tier for the next 5 years, I'm sure he'd have been of some use to us.

Fair enough but it was an expensive signing for WBA

it was. It was a Mitch Ward type deal: poor deal for United (we squandered the money and kept sliding) poor deal for Benjamin (trapped in their reserves for 3 years) and poor deal for WBA (they got nothing out of him and made a loss).

You could argue the Jordan Slew deal was similar.

Curtis Woodhouse to Birmingham with Nuddy and £1mil coming the other way.

Claude Davis to Derby? (although I quite liked him).

Andy Gray to Sunderland

Michael Tonge to Stoke

Rob Hulse to Derby (though he was worth way more pre-injury).

B-B-B-B-Barry Hayles to Millwall (I think we sold him for about £25k after signing him on a free and he was a flop).

Agree entirely. Not at all convinced yet that we’ve got more than he’s worth. If he fulfils his potential, he could be worth far more.

Agree with most of the players on the list that could be classed as good deals for us apart from the Michael Tonge sale. Here was a lad who had come through the ranks, at times he was an excellent player for us (I always felt if Michael Tonge played well United played well), more than held his own in our Prem season under Colin, and was more than good enough in the Championship. It seemed to me in the aftermath of the sale, the start of the 08/09 season, the club/team seemed really flat.

He pulled Warnie's pants down with that one.
