Players we have sold for more than they were really worth

Ramsdale appears to be a bit of optimism in this regard. We’ve not exactly made a killing on him. We paid £18m from memory, he probably has a sell on clause, he’s an international and we’re now playing a circus juggler between the sticks! I honestly think Arsenal have had our undercrackers down.
Wish it was a circus juggler, they they don't drop many balls and can do things with a ball only the likes of Sir James and TC could.;)

I loved him as a player, I was furious when we sold him, and my goodness we needed the money, but as it turned out the sale of Tony Agana to Notts Count for 685 grand in November 1991 was done at exactly the right moment. His value plummeted thereafter.

Two fun Notts County facts about that deal:

- the day it was done, the Pies were 15th in a 22 team top division. They have never been that high in the 30 years since

- that was a club record fee for them. 30 years on it remains their second biggest fee. Only Kasper Schmeichel cost more.

I don't really remember the Agana days (though I do remember the reception he got when we next played County). Hadn't injuries more or less got the better of him by the time we sold him?

He was injured a lot when we were promoted and nearly the whole of the following season. When we sold him in 1991 he was fit and scoring (4 in 15 games, and most of them just before he went). As a result, people were annoyed. But yes, his injuries made it a good deal. He was rarely fit in his time at County.

people may not believe it now but during 1988-9 the consensus was that Agana was better than Deane. This didn’t really shift until we got in division one.

Aaron Ramsdale
Wayne Quinn
Lee Morris
Oliver Tebily
We got our money back for the constantly injured Alan Young
Ian Benjamin
My dad thought the same about Alan Birchenall

Any more?
Got to say we’ve done remarkably well to double our money on Ramsdale. That sale will take some beating.

I’m fairly reliably informed we paid nearer £12m for him.

The main reason people were annoyed is that we sold him just before the first Sheffield derby since 1980 and Deano was out at the time. Luckily Deano came back to slot the ball through Chris Woods' legs.

And bizarrely, he won the top-flight title the season afterwards!
