I was on holiday last week when we played Hull. I read that we had not played well at all and Wilder was not at all happy with the players. It got me thinking about the mind set of players.

Now we all know that when asked, players come out with all the usual cliches, but I wonder what they're really thinking and how that might affect them. I should say I've played myself but nowhere near a really competitive level so I'm interested to know what you think.

Let's imagine that we finish in the play-off places and then miraculously, given our record in them, we actually win the final and get promoted. Brilliant.

What do we think are the chances that many of the current squad will play a big part in the Premier League? Yes, I know, it's every players dream to play there blah blah blah...... but can we really see Billy and Leon leading the line for us in the Premier League? To be honest I can only see Brooks, Stearman, O'Connell and maybe Fleck and Coutts (if he's the same player after his injury) being good enough to make that step up.

So if you're one of the others playing at Hull, maybe the thought that you won't be playing much next season might have a bearing on how you perform?

Right I'll just go and get my tin hat...............

If by hook or by crook we get promoted all the players will be on significantly more money in the Prem (it will be in their contracts) so I can't imagine for one minute they don't try just in case their effort gets them promoted.

And for any whose contract runs out this year then what better for your CV to have won promotion.

Maybe Hull was just one of those games. I don't buy into all this not trying 'don't want it' lark. We were trying against Leeds and QPR but weren't trying against Hull? Wheres the logic or rational in that?

Strange that they chose the Hull game to chuck it in though, right?

Agree, sometimes a player has a bad game and the others carry him but what happened at Hull? I thought a few of the lads played ok but too many were off their game. Disappointed that Wilder came out and said what he did, rather than just saying something like, 'I've told the lads that fell below our standards, we're going to sit down and analyse what happened.'
In my view (where I'm usually in a very small minority) Wilder is responsible for some of this:
Clarke has been off form for a while now but continually gets picked,
Bash has as many performances that aren't quite on it as are,
Lundstram had a good game and was dropped,
Fleck came straight back in after missing games without being eased back in,
Leonard isn't up to speed yet.
Things that couldn't have been predicted:
Evans had his worst game when previously he's looked comfortable.
So looking at that, it's easy to see how it came down like a house of cards, not everybody played badly but too many did and not having the usual options brought the rest down as they had to work too hard trying to recover the situation.
And so to tonight, Fleck will be in the side and he should be back up to speed, I'm hoping for Lundstram rather than Leonard and hopefully Evan's back up to scratch. That'll see us retake the midfield. If it isn't going well Duffy, Brooks or Holmes off the bench hopefully or maybe one to start...Then it's just up to the strikers to put the ball away.

I reckon even if you were a player who thought you wouldn't get picked for PL games, it'd still be in your interest to give 100% each game this season (and I hope they do in any case, but for some of the players, judging by the Hull performance it looked questionable!), because you still want to look good to other championship teams, if you were ever to be transferred or loaned out.
