With only 7 matches to go out of an arduous season, which player do you think has shown quality over all the others?

At the end of last season Derek Geary, Rob Hulse, Chris Morgan and Phil Jagielka were the names all mentioned as having done themselves proud in our Premiership campaign.

This season, I doubt there'll be so many names mentioned.

I'll add a poll after the Southampton match, but I thought you might like to be making a case for which player you consider to be the best in a Blades shirt this year.

Hmm..

James Beattie- His goals have been vital and if it wernt for his goals we would be in the bottom 4.

Matt Kilgallon- He started the season poorly but has progressed and has been playing very well since the christmas period and saved us at times. He really is an all round center back with his air power, his speed and strengh. He isnt just a defender who will boot it into touch. He can play it about and is good going forward.

But out the two i think Kilgallon deserves it.

I'm not having a go at you here mate, just at this comment in general as I've heard every man, woman and child trot this one out and I can't bear it anymore.

I think Beattie has been a good signing and has done well to get down and dirty in this league and still produce the goals. Whether he has earned every penny of his salary is questionable (along with every other player) but I don't think the "without his goals" argument can be used to debate the issue fairly.

"Without Beattie's goals" is the same as saying "without Paddy's saves", "without Del's tackles", "without McCabe's money", etc. etc.

He was never NOT going to score goals, the same as way Paddy is always going to make vital saves.

To be honest,

I don't think I could single any player out who has been consistently a good performer.

If I was going to pick someone, it would have to be Killa, but he was shocking at the begining of the season. So ..... er yeah

I think my performance at Charlton should be enough to secure the award.

Wearing a 'special one' coat and getting away with it was something else! :D :D

Matt Killgallon - Always been solid and never let us down, came on leaps and bounds when Cahill arrived and never looked back, made some great tackles and of the line clearences well done lad :D

2nd James Beattie - Goals kept us up during our bad patch (3/4 of the season)

Killgallon was poor at the beginning of the season when every other player was poor.

It would have to be him for me, Geary close behind.

Paddy not in the question? He had a bad patch, but needless to say he has kept us in the game countless times. If you are going to vote Killa, regardless of his bad start, you have to consider Paddy.

very true - goalkeepers very rarely get a look in though do they for some reason.

Kilgallon for me as well.

Keepers tend to get missed out because most people only remember the mistakes. Even spectacular saves get forgotten. I agree though that Paddy's got to be up there.

billy sharp :p :D

killa has been great. if tonge has played like he has under blackwell he would be in contention.

When i saw the thread title i immidiately thought of Matt Kilagllon and i am glad to see that the majority share the same opinion.

As i posted on Football forums.net I think Beattie Just shades it for me with Killa a closely run 2nd i think Beatties Goals have been crucial to us this season i dread to think were we would be without them.

Id agree.

Since Cahill came to the club he has been a rock at the back.

Well James Beattie has won the official Player of the Season award with Killa and Geary joint runners up. Billy Sharp walked away with the young player of the season award.

So I suppose it's time we added a poll of our own :)

geary hasnt played alot this season really but has put good performances in

It's very obviously from the names previously mentioned in this thread and the spread of the poll where we need to strengthen next season. If Tonge and Quinn can put in consistently good performances, it might go some way to solving our midfield issues. I'd still like that one stand-out midfielder though.

Anyway... I hate to be boring but it's going to have to be Beattie for me. When everything else was poo and no one else in the team really looked bothered, the matches were made less arduous singularly thanks to Sir Jim of Lancashire. Anyone who has achieved what he has might think themselves a bit above everything and not bothered... yet he never stops talking to Billy Sharp, trying to gee him up and build his confidence. And if Sharpy can defend like he did yesterday, Beattie's influence is clearly rubbing off.

Do you think he enjoys scoring?

i can see a black hand... whos that????

UGO UGO UGO UGO!!!!
:D

quinny is on every goal scoring photo taken. Fact.

I had to go for BT, his goals have helped us early on in the season to keep us out of the bottom 3 and then pushed us upward.

Killa has been excellent though!

Beats clapped longer than most of the crowd when Billy went off.

Nice to have team mates like that!

:)

I've voted for Beattie. He was still able to score goals in the dark days of Bryan Robson's reign of tyranny. And now Blackwell is getting the best out of him.

ames Beattie has been voted SUFC Supporters Club Player of the Year in his first season at the Club.

The 22 goal striker picked up votes consistently throughout the campaign, ending with the defeat at Preston which was before Beattie netted a hat-trick and went on to find the net in five successive matches.

Although a prior arrangement for a large charity event prevented Beattie from receiving the award at the dinner in the Platinum Suite - Kevin Blackwell stood in - he will be presented with it on Saturday when Bristol City are the visitors.

Derek Geary and Matt Kilgallon capped their own seasons with a joint runners-up award, whilst Billy Sharp carried off the Young Player of the Year trophy.

Well done to all the winners
