The easy ball is to his right towards our left for Hourihane and Fleck. That's not a particularly difficult ball to make.

A more difficult ball would be to put it over the man in the "D" and out towards our Right Hand side towards Basham. This is dangerous as if he does get it wrong, it could easily fall to their man in the D. With MGW's ability though, I would expect him to be able to pull this pass off.

All his teammates bar Ndiaye and Hourihane (pretty much on line) are infront of him, so it's actually more a "hit-and-hope" kind of ball. The only way we can retain possession from that type of clearance is if Ndiaye wins the first ball in midfield. He didn't and they had possession again

It looked good though so I guess that's all that matters

It's far too simple to take a snapshot of a particular moment in a game and to say what should have been done differently. It doesn't at all take into account the extremely limited amount of time that MGW had to make a decision.
Most rushed clearances are hit and hope balls, there's always almost no chance of retaining possession in that sort of situation. There's also a danger with any of the options you've outlined. The first option for example, you really want him volleying it across the front of our penalty box? There's not a defensive coach in the world who would make that suggestion. It might not be a particularly difficult pass to make but it puts Hourihane or Fleck under pressure from the player near them. The only way to be sure would be to play the way he's facing, which isn't really an option at all. Fact is he managed to get the ball well clear of our penalty box.
