Play the simple ball...

The easy ball is to his right towards our left for Hourihane and Fleck. That's not a particularly difficult ball to make.

A more difficult ball would be to put it over the man in the "D" and out towards our Right Hand side towards Basham. This is dangerous as if he does get it wrong, it could easily fall to their man in the D. With MGW's ability though, I would expect him to be able to pull this pass off.

All his teammates bar Ndiaye and Hourihane (pretty much on line) are infront of him, so it's actually more a "hit-and-hope" kind of ball. The only way we can retain possession from that type of clearance is if Ndiaye wins the first ball in midfield. He didn't and they had possession again

It looked good though so I guess that's all that matters

It's far too simple to take a snapshot of a particular moment in a game and to say what should have been done differently. It doesn't at all take into account the extremely limited amount of time that MGW had to make a decision.

Most rushed clearances are hit and hope balls, there's always almost no chance of retaining possession in that sort of situation. There's also a danger with any of the options you've outlined. The first option for example, you really want him volleying it across the front of our penalty box? There's not a defensive coach in the world who would make that suggestion. It might not be a particularly difficult pass to make but it puts Hourihane or Fleck under pressure from the player near them. The only way to be sure would be to play the way he's facing, which isn't really an option at all. Fact is he managed to get the ball well clear of our penalty box.

But that was enough time to decide to pull something off as extreme as a scissor kick?

A player as talented as MGW could easily have played it to Hourihane and Fleck. They had 1 player near the 2 of them. Between them they would have been able to get it out for a throw-in to regroup.

Let's agree to disagree on this one.

I believe it landed at their man in midfield. That's not a perfect clearance. If a player is facing the right way and puts it to their man in the middle of the park, questions would rightly be asked.
It went towards Ndiaye if I remember right (memory may be a little hazy) and he was challenged

A talented player should technically be able to play that ball, I agree, but you don’t play such a dangerous pass across the front of your own penalty box, that’s basic defending.

In that situation MGW would have been completely reliant upon the communication coming from his team mates. I think it more likely that communication was to ‘get rid’ rather than to try and pick a pass out.

One of the first things you're taught as a youngster. Morgan Gibbs-White is easily one of the most gifted players we've got, who clearly lacks this basic level of footballing knowledge
Looks like he read this, took note and stood up to the challenge. Unplayable last couple of games.

Stop talking bollocks and trying to big yourself up for fuck sakes.
Wow. Just wow.

If you see my style of posting, you'll realise you are so far away from the mark you can't even see it anymore.

Don't get how people get be so angry.
