With Fulham running riot again tonight, we are now a huge 16 points off the autos.
The chances of Bournemouth and Fulham blowing up (Mitrovic just got his NINETEENTH league goal of the season so far!) are less than remote.
What a disappointing season we're in for.
Oh well, onwards and upwards towards next season, and it's not even bonfire night yet :(

Can’t disagree , let’s hope for a good second half to the season and maybe scrape into the play offs … last thing we need though is to go up in the play offs with this squad and not a lot of money to spend on players !

Think we’ll finish mid table this season and be strong contenders next.. saying that, playoffs aren’t unthinkable this season.
I really don't get we're all this " we can make the playoffs " comes from we can't beat anybody, rarely look like scoring and concede at the drop of a hat. Maybe fans are looking at the January window but we need to unload some of the baggage and there's also the prospect that there's no money for permanent incomings.

We will plod along just above half way till we get a few signings in January, then we will steam roll ever cunt and easily make the play offs. We will destroy West Brom in the final.

Whilst we'd take that every day of the week, it would make hard viewing in 12 months.

I don't see a single player as good enough should that happen and the whole squad would need replacing.

Egan isn't having a good season, the full backs have regressed, center mid has run its course and as stated above, Mitrovic has 19. Our top scorer has 5. You'd be looking at a Norwich style season.

Financially speaking there's never a bad time to get promoted... But fuck me it would be a reyt car crash if we did with this bunch.

The 10 year rolling average to make 6th place is 74.9 points.

We need to average 1.87 points per game to make the playoffs.

Currently on 19 points with 30 games remaining means absolute max we can get is 109 points total.

So in short we can only drop a maximum of 34 points over next 30 games for any chance of making 6th.

Not impossible, but we need to kick on soon.

I'll settle for top 10, January & summer windows that will see a serious culling, sign a mix of good experience of championship pedigree especially midfield, a leader, young hungry blood and some bloody PACE please. I'd keep Billy, Bash & Egan but not much more from CWs reign. Unfortunately I'm not overly optimistic about much investment in the squad from our esteemed board, because we sure as hell ain't gonna recoup much on #7 #8 #11 are we?

Sorry, I didn't realise that Sky stopped paying oodles of money for Premier League TV rights

I think some posters are either too young to remember, or have developed selective amnesia about us and the playoffs. I'd sooner finish 12th, save a pile money, not get stressed over tickets, travel, price of shit beer and shit food, than go through all that yet again.
As far as we're concerned, the playoffs aren't "a lottery", we lose.

Play offs?
We will finish nearer the bottom than the top.
As we are now.
I find no joy in saying it but we are in a messy transition period and it will take some sorting out. I think we have a lack of match toughness and aerial ability, essential attributes to progress in this division.
Thank goodness there are 2 very poor teams and one with a points deduction below us.

Oh , they sure haven't - but have we stopped recruiting highly paid duds ?
Have we got a replacement for JoC yet ? It's only been 20 months.
Have we got a striker who can finish a bag of chips ?
I mean , what's to say that if you gave this club another £200m , they couldn't piss it away again ?

we do have a striker who can finish a bag of chips.....and a kebab, and a 16 inch pizza, wash it all down with 2 litres of coke and quite easily tackle a tub of ben and jerrys.

We have a chance of the playoffs without a doubt, but unless we can keep clean sheets and convert chances it’s going to be a struggle
We definitely need a pacy winger and a stronger midfield with creativity its going to be a real struggle
It’s very tight after the top 3 sides much of a muchness, I haven’t actually seen a decent side yet, all very fit and organised but nothing special
Sides we were beating easily in the promotion season

Is it as disappointing as last season?

We are total shite. Manager hasn’t a clue what to do as he hasn’t got any good players.
Proper Bladesway!

It's embarrassing that we've been in roughly the same place as Fulham , Norwich , WBA , Leeds Brentford & Bournemouth in recent years but now we are light years away from them.
I've seen us piss away a decent position many times this last half-century but the way we have dry-fucked ourselves this time is something that only dem Blades could achieve.
I wouldn't be surprised to find the 1973 YCC hosting McCabe in some secret cave deep underneath the Lane , stirring a pot of foul-smelling fluid , chanting
"By the poles on this Kop , I swear this club shall go feckin nowhere now"

Yes, in fact more so.
By Southampton away at the end of 2020 it was clear the wheels had come off.
20/21 started where we left off and it was obvious without JOC, our lack of goals meant we'd be in trouble, and we were.
After we went down, like many others I was confident that with a decent manager and a couple of astute signings, we'd be challenging for the autos like Norwich did so yes, more disappointing than last year for me.

Anyone who thinks this squad will get us promoted is as deluded as any Wendy fan, we also wont make the playoffs, I don't think we will get relegated this season on the plus side.

I can see us scraping playoffs if we get a few savvy signings done in January and if Berge returns with a view to put himself in the shop window (he did a few nice runs and crosses in his last outing).

However, don't think it's likely and we may have to wait for next season and build. Bournemouth weren't playing too well last season by all accounts and look at them now.

Dread to think where we'd be in the league table if MGW and Ndiaye hadn't been options for us.

I agree.
To improve over the rest of this season and add a couple of better players in January is fine by me, given the current state of play.
