Talk on pig twatter of possible deal invoving McGugan. Has to be bull.

Only got two years on his deal. I'm surprised we haven't heard of extensions for Fleck and O'Connell. We'd get very little once they enter the final twelve months.

Fleck and O'Connel still have two years too run on their existing deals though bud, so we're fine for now, although you never want them to be near a year to go. I reckon if they continue as they did last season both will have extensions soon enough.

£15 million plus McGugan and they can have him.

I'd try to get Fleck and O'Connell signed up long term ASAP. If they perform well in the Championship their stock will rise considerably and we'd have to pay them more. I'd back them to do well and offer them new contracts in advance. Then it depends if they back themselves or not. If they do they could delay any contract talks.

Maybe we have an option for an additional year based on appearances like Sharp, Courts and the others had, which would mean we don't have to worry about this until the end of the season.

Why would we sell one of, if not the best player on our books?

A) We are trying to consolidate in the Championship. You don't sell your best players or we all know we will be going straight back down where we came from

B) We've just picked up £1.4m from the Harry sale and are very likely to collect an even bigger wedge from the Kyle move. I don't believe we are under pressure to sell anyone

C) I don't believe CW would wish to sell his best player when he's trying to build a squad capable of competing in the Championship

D) So why then would we sell our best player to those bankers based on the above?

Fk off Wendy :)

I doubt we'll be renogiating any players contract until after Christmas when we'll have a much better idea of our best players who are comfortable at CC level and the teams strengths and weaknesses.

Let's assume that Fleck is currently on £6K and we offer him an extra 2 years on £10K/week making him joint top earner.
You can bet his agent will demand £15K to £20K a week for a player that we don't 100% know will perform well in the Championship. There seems to be a trend these days on playing players salaries based on potential BEFORE they deliver the goods.

Until we know that we'll be far too good to be involved in a relegation scrap then it would be negligent and foolhardy to start paying out massive wages when it's possible we could be back in league 1 with hardly any money in 2 years.

When the big clubs come in for your best players you can't keep hold of them blah blah blah £1m is a good fee blah blah blah

I'm not advocating selling Fleck to that lot in anyway... no non nein

But imagine how much they'd pay given what they spunked out out on Reach and Rhodes from Middlesboro. We could probably ask for £20 million and a 90% sell on clause and their chairman would still come back and ask if we want to up the bid a little!

I was about to post exactly the same. We need to wait and see which players can do it in the Championship although I would wager rather Fleck will. I am sure I read a reliable source which said Fleck was on £8k pw. Whether there was a term in his contract that gave him an automatic increase if we got promoted I don't know but with him and others the time to look at a new contract will be the end of thi year I would say.

Fleck is loving his career at the Lane, they may give him more money but he's the kind of player that would not entertain a move like this.

How many players go Blades to pigs.....not many.

Once they have been with us they know it's not the done thing to go there.....it's just dirty, unclean and be like moving out of Buckingham palace to move into a Brazilian slum

They can't afford him anyway.....I'm afraid to say we will be fending off premier league clubs by January, not grubby little wannabe shit stain clubs.

But in all seriousness, he's a player we want to build the club around. Offer him a longer deal, pay rise with a further yearly raise on top for loyalty. Then have an agreement in place if he really does become the top player in the league that he can go on a release clause that is mutually agreeable....say £10m would be fair.
