I don't usually get the hate but decided to give it a brief listen on Friday as I was properly early and it was just laughably bad - not sure was Staton was thinking to be honest, didn't let the caller make his point even though he had no idea what he was going to say, just spent the next 10-15 minutes reiterating his own stange tirade. Very bizarre. Don't think I'll be bothering again anytime soon.

The caller didn’t have a point though apart from the station had too many Wednesday callers that evening and wasn’t talking enough about United.

It was like listening to a 10 year old and those types of idiot callers with no point to make, need banning.
It’s almost laughable that people think Radio Sheffield can magic callers out of this air.

Accept that Staton is slightly abrasive…he stands his ground when he has a point and doesn’t stand for nonsense.
Him and Giddings read out a few emails afterwards saying stuff like “everyone knows it’s a Sheff Wed station because we are massive. Up the Owls” etc.
Staton kept apologising every time he mentioned anything United related, joking that he’dforget it was a Sheff Wed station.
All the callers were depressed Wednesday fans complaining about Chansiri and their terrible performance against Bristol City blaming the manager.
Giddings later said that when a club is going well and there’s nothing to complain about (like at Sheff Utd ) there’s often less callers from that club.

If anyone didn’t listen to the show on Friday, below was basically what was said,
Blades caller: I don’t like how you’re not talking about United tonight.
Staton : OK then…let’s talk about United, you have the stage. (Staton is often dismissive when it’s a daft call and gives off vibes he doesn’t like criticism).
Blades caller: I find that this station is bias towards Wednesday and tonight all you’ve talked about is Wednesday, when things are so good and exciting at United.
Staton: Look…are you going to talk about United? Now is your big chance to correct something you’re complaining about.
Blades caller: Don’t like your attitude….good bye…and he puts the phone down.

I think he was trying to get onto a point but he wasn't allowed to finish making it. He quite calmly said "I can see you aren't prepared to listen to what I'm trying to say so I'll end it there".

Normally I'd try and defend RS a bit but it was slightly idiotic and a good opportunity to stroke his own ego. Granted the caller should've changed tact but there could have been a decent point in amongst it if he was prepared to let him talk for 10 seconds rather than jump down his throat.

It descended into some sort of amateur production at this point and wasn't worth me listening to it so I turned it off.

They actually call regular callers up to get them to go on the show these days...

I’d agree with an earlier comment - it only needs to be in on Monday & Friday. It’s overkill 5 days a week & on the odd occasion I do tune in there is often 5-10 mins of chat by the host - as clearly they are short of callers.

What about midweek games ... with sky they can be on any day of the week?!

Wow….talk about being over sensitive.

It’s been happening for years……a Barnsley fan rings up and complains they never talk about Barnsley and it’s all Sheffield bias (to a degree it is).
They explain they can only talk about what callers want to talk about and then give the Barnsley fan the opportunity to talk about Barnsley.
He says he has nothing to say apart from it’s not fair that they rarely have callers talking about Barnsley.
I’ve heard Rotherham fans also say the same complaining that no one is ringing up talking about their team.

It must become so tiresome when Wednesday fans call their show “Radio Sheffield United” and accuse Staton of being a Blades and anti Wednesday
Then at the same time Unitedites will accuse their show of being Radio `Sheffield `Wednesday etc.
I’d say they can show some slight bias, but it’s mainly towards the most successful team. For the past few years the show has been slightly bias in favour of Sheff Utd. Giddings especially slightly belittle Sheff Wed saying how they have average players, who are well organised and should finish mid table.
When as on Fridays show he started the programme saying a team is Hamer, Cannon, Bereton-Diaz, Campbell, Rak Sakyi, Moore, O’Hare is incredlby strong and exciting at this level. No wonder Wednesday that rang up were generally depressed.

Staton regularly compares SW with SU and says they are miles behind us both on and off the pitch.
He always slags off Chansiri but was always quite complementary towards the Prince.
Staton also always bigs up our players, a neutral would guess he’s more likely to be a Blade.
I know quite a few Wednesday fans that don’t enjoy listening to Radio Sheffield because they say it’s always SU bias.

The other day they started the show talking about United but all the early callers were Wednesdayites complaining about their club and the disgraceful performance in midweek against Bristol City. Incredibly the Blade caller rings up to complain about it being Wednesday bias, so they explain that anyone can call the show, so tell him he now has the chance to speak about United and he childishly puts the phone down saying he’s made his point and that all he wanted to say.

At the time I thought “what an idiot”,
I suppose what didn’t help is that, after that call they then read out emails/ texts from Wednesdays fans mocking the Unitedite with Staton and Giddings joining in.
Staton kept being sarcastic every time he later mentioned Sheff United, saying he’d made a mistake because he tries to never talk about us.

Giddings later made a good point, that in his experience, they always receive more callers when it’s something negative.
He said they tend not to have so many Wednesday callers but after the antics with the chairman and their club put in turmoil there’s suddenly a lot of people who want to talk about SWFC. If United starting dropping down the league and Wilder was close to being sacked, all of the sudden the show would be inundated with Blades.

The blades fan didn’t ring up to complain about Wednesday bias. Before he spoke about United he wanted to make a quick point as he’s perfectly entitled to do but was quickly interrupted and spoken to like a naughty schoolboy by Staton. No wonder he thought “fuck this” and basically was saying if you aren’t going to listen I may as well say goodbye. Now Staton isn’t going to read any emails slagging him off is he but the fact the calls very quickly dried tells you everything you needed to know

However, I listened to Fridays episode and Staton was completely unprofessional, bordering on an embarrassment, he was like a 12 yr old going on and on. The Blade had a point that it had been all Wednesday to that point (38 minutes in) ...and not just callers...as Staton and Giddings chose to focus on Shea Charles and Wednesday despite us playing that night and having just spent 10m on a new player. He called in and said he was surprised we hadn't had a mention and Staton immediately jumped on him saying now was his chance. The guys point was that the presenters weren't talking about us not who the callers were. He put the phone down when Staton refused to accept the truth and said 'a bit of advice talk about the Blades and don't moan about the Owls coverage'. As Staton clearly wasn't going to listen to him he put the phone down.

The next 10 minutes plus of radio were some of the most childish I've had the misfortune to listen to and weren't becoming of a BBC programme. I can't believe his superiors won't have had a word.

For me and as i mentioned earlier in a earlier post, football heaven is the weak point and what most people are talking about.

If i do listen to the commentary on United games, i think they are very good.

Going back to football heaven, i am one who suggested dropping it to 2 or 3 shows a week, as i think its run its course with so many other ways of discussing football (on here for example).

Again to add to my earlier post, i dont like the 2 or 3 presenters on it now, as they can waffle and sometimes come across as ganging up.

The multiple presenters is probably another sign callers are reducing, so they can fill blank spaces.

He then does talk quite a long time about Shea Charles (from 7:00 to 13:35, so that 6 minutes 35 seconds)

However it’s a much more interesting story.
Radio Sheffield know loads about Charles, seen him play loads of times and know the massive effect he has on that club
He’s the difference between an unlikely playoff push and bottom half, just escaping relegation.
It’s a more interesting story than usual because United were also after him
And it’s very much tied in with the big Chansiri forum rant story with a weird twist about Southampton loaning out a player, recalling him back
Then demanding a bigger loan fee, eventually loaning him back to the same club.
Staton and Giddings mentioned all the above, so had plenty of talk about.

To be honest….Radio Sheffield don’t have enough callers….so presenters chat to each other to fill out time.

In context, he’s not a particularly big story, just one of many signings we’ll make during the January transfer window.

I noticed Staton said Chris the Blade was due up next on 30 minutes, then he was kept waiting until 38 minutes.

Chris said quite politely, an exact quote
“I’m on the way to the game and slightly surprised by your programme because it’s 38 minutes in
and I’ve not heard anything about United at all…I’ve heard long documentaries about a Sheffield Wednesday loan players being retained”

Staton abruptly replied
“I’ll just jump in Chris….you’ve got the perfect opportunity to talk about that now. The 1st two callers were both Wednesday fans… you’ve rung up….you’re a Blade, …..a bit of advice, let’s talk about the game now, rather about moaning about who rang in before you”

Chris then replied “I’ll leave the call there because obviously you’re not listening….goodbye”
Staton said “See ya…I’m always amazed at people that go down that road, you get a perfect chance to talk about your team but you’d rather moan instead”

Both made a mistake….Chris the United fan is thinking the SW is just a loanee and doesn’t realise he’s the big story at S6, it makes or breaks their season, with so much drama around his signing you could wrote a small book. Staton makes a mistake because he’s assumed that Chris is complaining about the callers before him.

To be fair on 2nd thoughts I do sympathise Chris the Blade.
Pre match Friday night I’ve never felt as upbeat or excited about supporting United, it’s rare that we show such ambition spending 10 mil at this level

Absolutely spot on mate - totally agree with every word.

My mates and me couldn't believe how childish the next 10-15 mins was - total embarrassment , like two silly , smug kids. We also turned it off .
