Makes a change…he’s normally Blades biased and always complimentary.

It’s that bad that some people on Owlstalk think he must be a Blade….but he’s really an Owl.

To be fair on the Praise and Grumble celebrations the other year…most of the ex presenters explained that you gradually grow a genuine affinity towards all the South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire clubs and want them all to do well.

Every fanbase makes a claim that their local media is biased against them. It's bollocks.

If Rob Staton was on FH tonight extolling the virtues of W*******y's away win yesterday, so what? They have done and would do the same for us.

There's some serious sensitive skin in football fans when it comes to rival teams getting a bit of praise.

Staton has been waxing lyrical about us recently and in the games he has commentated has heaped praise on the standard of the football we play.

I don't really care if he supports Wednesday or gushes over them from time to time. He still does a really good and professional job imo.

Plus we have had Bennet and Walker in the past who are Blades, but they always tried to be balanced as well.

We are lucky to have the FH team. Not many areas have the same standard of coverage.

That's an old photo. Does it matter who he supports? Paul Walker is a Blade. Giddings is is a Halifax fan
I can hand on heart say I wouldn’t give a toss if he admitted it. It just winds me up that he makes out that he doesn’t support any team in the area and then orgasms over the pigs at any given opportunity.

I’m not sure he does with the same gravitas but that’s your opinion

You’re right, we are lucky and they are a good team. I just want him to grow a pair like Gidds.

Commentators on RS are leagues above most other regional broadcasters and some majors.

Generally think the coverage they put out, on presumably a tiny budget, is outstanding.
Not disputing completely agree 👍

Agree

Crack on

Even if they did, I cannot understand why anyone would get hurty feelings about it?

A local radio station covering local teams is expected to praise local teams for doing well.

I wouldn’t complain if he came out and admitted that he supported the pigs.

I also don't understand why this, or digging up pictures of him, is relevant either. Just seems a bit obsessed and stalkerish to me.

staton knows were better than wednesday but have to say pigs have had 2 very easy away games not much of a suprise that theyve won em both

Stalking? I hardly go looking for him do I. It’s just my opinion if you don’t agree with me that’s fine.

Well said

Must’ve been mentioning Wednesday on the show and he’s rattled some of our own.

Had the Oxford commentary on for the Utd Cov match. If you think the radio sheffield commentaries are bad these were even worse.

It's your 4th thread this year where you've obsessed about Rob Staton?

Auntie Susan supported that lot before he became Uncle Susan.
I think he only changed as I supported his gender switch.
She says he'd still do bannan though.
Bastard.

Most of the football heaven guys over the years have gone into better things if they’ve wanted to.

Paul Walker went up a level for example.

Maybe Luke Wileman was Hallam but he was doing well in Canada, quite a prominent role.

Seth has also gone on to do the Olympics and other more prominent roles.

The format for FH is very good and they are relatively consistent with employing guys who get the right balance. I can only think of Mike McCarthy who Wilder seemed to not connect with.

Rob Staton, Andy Giddings and Adam Oxley are a really good bunch. Adam’s is a nice story how his career has evolved.

Given some of the fans who ring up, they do manage well to get a cohesive program. Some are those boring bastards you get in the pub who drone on, others so far detached from reality and then there’s those who can barely string a sentence together.

So with the materials they have it’s good. I also like that they’ve brought the Star guys into the commentary and Blades Heaven or Owls Heaven. It makes the scene all quite close and collaborative.

What happened with Sarbs? Is he still doing stuff for us?

Even if correct, it doesn't matter and in a way it epitomises what local commentary and media should be about, a deeper understanding of the issues that matter to local fans, as opposed to the MSM love in with the big clubs in the PL.

Don’t think it’s a coincidence some have gone on to do commentary at the national level

The irony is that later in the show Staton was oozing with Bladiness bias.

He commented that Cooper is the best goalie in the Championship. A Rotherham fan texted in mentioning Victor Johannson and Staton also said Beadle has performed well at SW but said “Cooper is a level above both” and added “he is the real deal” and “you can see he’ll have a long career in the Premier league and hopefully it’s with Sheff Utd”. He also said “he’s that good you can’t rule out him becoming the England goalkeeper”.

He also compared United to Wednesday regards our Academy and developing youngsters. He said it’s a disgrace how, over the years, SW have had so few youngsters making the 1st team and said they need to learn from United. Mentioning we’d brought in 10 million from selling Osula and how Jebbison also went to a PL team. He then raved about Arblaster, Peck, Sereki. Then he raved about Burrows and Souttar.

He also praised Wilder again and had said several times in the past he’s the best manager he’s ever known since working for Radio Sheffield and said that his current success is going under the radar because he deserves more credit for what he’s doing this season.

He actually said if United get promoted this season then when you think how a total rebuild was needed from last season, then it’s a better achievement than when Wilder was promoted with the league 1 team.

Some Wednesday fans won’t listen to Radio Sheffield because they think it’s a Blades bias station, when the reality is they are bias towards which ever team is performing the best.
