Phil Jones?

He's right up Wilder's street. Great pedigree, lost his way.

But he literally cannot stay fit

Can‘t see straight either. Or make his feet do what his brain says. He moves like he’s got two sets of ankles at the end of each leg. And he turns like an elephant.

The Man Utd fan in Roy’s pre-match View From, who said they’d have a better chance at Old Trafford than they had at Bramall Lane “because Phil Jones won’t be playing up top for Sheffield” wasn’t far wrong.

Afraid it’s a slightly freaked out “No, please no!” from me WWF Carlts.

The way Mousset embarrassed him last year, I'd be loathed to have him at the club. He is versatile though! That is, he can f*ck things up in many positions.

At 28, given the wages we'll have to pay him and the fee, I'd rather us get some young talent that we can nurture should Egan p*ss off to another club in a year or two.

As I just said in Shoutbox, on a modest wage and a one year deal he'd be worth a look.

All in good fun obviously

I think I once saw him have a good game playing at DM but I could be wrong. Apart from that, I wouldn't be overly ecstatic to see him at the lane.

First thoughts:

Nightmare, no way.

Second thoughts:

He’s a player playing with zero confidence. Out of favour with every manager in the last 6 years. Looked bad, in a bad team being protected by an awful midfield. He had virtually exactly the same reputation as Smalling. Look at him now.

He would get fit at United. You see what happened to Lukaku. Man Utd are not the elite in training in conditioning at all any more. I would say we are arguably better at looking after our players than they are.

He could play RCB/CB/CDM.

If we could get him on a free and turn him into a player, it would be yet another feather in Wilder’s cap. I wouldn’t put it past him.

On a free, it frees up budget for other areas.

I really can’t see us signing him though. I think we will go back in for Lenihan before we signed Phil jones.

Was touted as the new Duncan Edwards when moving from Blackburn.

Initial reaction is one of horror as I've not seen him have a remotely good game for years. Thinking about it a little more you don't survive at Man Utd this long if you're as bad as the limited amount of times I'm basing my opinion on.

The rumour could be utter bollocks for starters but who is going to offer him anything like his current deal? And if not, Wilder may believe he can drag him back to where he once was.

Would feel like a big gamble for the kind of money it would cost us by our wage structure.

At CB no chance but might be ok in the Basham role

Behind the comedy gurning and grimaces - there is probably a footballer who could thrive away from the old Trafford.

bit like Jonny Evans for Leicester maybe?

Unless he’s willing to take a massive pay cut, and we’re switching to a formation where our central defenders can afford to be less mobile than present, can’t see this being likely.
