If you’re of the opinion that ‘this would be a joke of a signing’ without putting any consideration into it, you’re being very shortsighted.

If you put him in villa’s team this year, or an aimless Watford or the like, he would be getting laughed at on the match of the day sofa every week. He would be on a hiding to nothing. 95% of premier league fans would have said the same about Chris Basham this time 12 months ago.

It just shows how far a solid coaching team, an intricate system, a balanced style of play that doesn’t leave individual players exposed to hang them out to dry goes.

Man Utd would happily sign Johnny Evans as an upgrade to partner Harry Maguire. He had the same reputation as jones a couple of years ago. They will be in for Chris Smalling, an English, English speaking centre half performing as one of the best in his position in serie A next year. They could have signed Harry for 15 off Hull a few years ago but chose not to.

Don’t base Phil Jones’s ability upon what Man Utd think of him, is the moral of the story.
