Has Jags been given another year?

I've seen it rumoured but not confirmed , however he's on our wiki page as a first team squad player with a squad number whereas all the other players out of contract have been removed.

Looking at that squad we are desperately short of defensive competition/cover.

I read somewhere that he and Rodwell are still free agents currently but are training with us. It sounds like Wilder is keeping them around as options in case we fail to further strengthen that area and it gives them both a chance to earn another contract.

It would appear that both players are happy with that arrangement. I guess it works for both parties. They can both stay fit and see what else comes along worst case scenario.

I'd be happy for Jags to be 7th choice CB assuming he takes a low wage (I don't believe for a second that he was earning 50k a week last season). Can do his coaching badges etc too.

Rodwell an intriguing one. His two(?!) touches v Burnley looked assured. If he's back in training with us, that may mean he has fit in well and been learning the system. He has great talent, so maybe he's the right man to be backup to Bash again this season?

Spare a thought for poor Dean Hammond, one of the people to really suffer from the lockdown. A triumphant return to football announced with Worthing, 2 days later the game is shut down and Worthing’s season subsequently cancelled.

In fairness, in numbers terms we are ok as it stands both in midfield and up front. We have 11 players to fill 5 slots. There is another debate regards if we need to bring better in and a couple may leave. As you say plenty of keepers. But 6 defenders to fill 5 places (Osborn makes 7 at a push) is why we keep being linked in that area I suppose.

Jags is obviously happy with his roll within the club, Rodders is totally different he is really at the peak of his powers age wise ! he has still a lot to prove Wilder willing to give him that chance ! Nothing to lose have we !.

The fact we’re paying him with food from the club’s canteen is what’s made this deal the most sense to us financially.
