But not as high as they will get elsewhere and with relegation clauses in that have a 50/50 chance of being activated!

Both Berge and Illi are off next summer whichever league we are in. We just have to hope that they do enough for us this season to keep us up.
Will they be off for free or can we get some money for them if they go next season?

They will be out of contract, so...
....so, what? That was my question.

Traditionally they may go for free but I'm unsure if there is some kind of compensation package nowadays, especially with them being so young.

It really does sound like in relative terms, be the lowest spenders of a newly promoted club for ages.

It's a bit surprising that the board potentially over ruled him regards retaining Sharp and Enda. Never a good sign, but then this is how they pee'd of Wilder and then Slav so guess not that surprising. Hecky seems to have the trait of getting on with it better but hope they don't test his resolve too.

We really need a takeover or cash injection, and I just don't see one coming.
Depends on how much he has given away and how accurate it is.
Said we wouldn’t be signing PL players but then referred to possible talks re Doyle/Macatee, although maybe they don’t count as PL standard yet.

In a way the manager should never be happy with the budget

As a manager you should want every player you fancy, as the board you should be juggling the playing squad against resources

2 occasions I can think of where a manager got every player he wanted was Redknapp at pompey, and oLeary at Leeds

Both ended up in Div1 and bust

There is another one I seem to recall…. about 3 years ago actually……… which had PH not done the business this year I fear we would have been going into admin

If he’s genuine I’m more surprised PH wanted to keep them, both struggled in championship, both would be embarrassed in EPL
I would rather give Jebbo Billy’s shirt and at least if we go down we’ve blooded young uns to take us up year after
Don’t believe everything that appears in the media !

Berge will be 26 when his contract expires, and as we didn't sign Ndiaye until he was 19 anything due to us will be minimal in the grand scheme of things

Maybe one for the unpopular opinions thread, but I see that as a good thing. No other industry allows so much power and individual freedom with almost zero checks and balances that some situations in football do.

It really wouldn't have been the end of the world if the board had said to Chris, "we can loan Brewster and see, but we ain't paying 23.5m on an untried youngster". I'm pretty sure some on the Board voiced that opinion but Chris pretty much saw himself as untouchable then, so whoever raised these concerns got overruled. How right they were to have raised them though.

Same here. He might have liked to keep Sharp and Ends around. It's easy not to be the bad guy. But the Board probably took a look and evaluated that some 50k per week could be better spent. Sooner or later you have to face reality and if they were players on frees looking for 50k between them, a 38 year old strikers and a 32 year old left back coming off the back of an injury hit season wouldn't grab your attention.

Probably the Prince or Bettis or Yusuf probably told him to make them the bad guys in all this. But it is the right decision. The squad needs rejuvenating and freeing up decent wages has to be done to achieve this, to be recycled and invested in younger players who can still develop.

I agree with your general point about checks and balances. The problem in our situation though is that there is zero football knowledge on our board so it's not ideal when they start making football decisions.

I'd prefer them to say 'your total budget is X and that can't change - do with it what you will' rather than 'you can keep player x and player y but not player z'.

Another thing he said was that the club don't have options on Berge & Ndiaye contracts. Signing Iliman onto a new contract should be the clubs biggest priority this summer.
Won't happen, why there's no extension possible is a question to ask of those who do these things. Poor at all levels, and given the derisory, even pitiful, budgets we appear to have, things look grey at best.

Bumped into Hecky in the abandoned Cannon brewery whilst I was doing some snooping. He was just stood in a room in the white tracksuit. He basically said we’ve got some cash, he’s trying to throw the scent off and then basically told me to fuck off and not say a word of this meeting, or else!

shit

Norwich went up a few years ago and never spent a penny on new players, they were heavily in debt at the time, then got relegated again
Why on earth would you keep Billy, Enda and Fleck for the PL, don’t understand that at all
Use the money for better players

He asked about Brewster but not RND!!!!

His recovery is more crucial to our recruitment in my view, would like to hear how he’s progressing. Has owt been said that I’ve missed?
Found that strange no mention of RND and weren't he ahead of Brewster in progress? (Because of Rhian's set back)

I’d give Shoutbox a swerve then if I were you. As well as the usual United are hopeless in every aspect stuff, this week we’ve had Yorkshire on the verge of playing Minor Counties cricket, so we’re broadening the slashing scope.
Put a name to a dig Trig 😂

Because he is 37, only scored 3 goals last season, has no pace, missed really good chances and is now a division 1 level player at best
The original question was, who had the final say, Billy or the Prince, because Hecky in the interview stated he wanted him to stay.

Negative vibes and slagging club , wait till Frank the clap sees this !

I don't think it's like that. It's a set of financial limits which means that's the decision to be taken.
It's like someone saying I wanted to stay living in a 3 bed house after the kids grew up, but it had to go. They haven't been forced as such, but all circumstances lead to that decision.

Worrying he wanted to keep them. I'd have thought he would have had a tap on the shoulder and got told those wages could be better spent on younger players.
Not really worrying, the fact that we might not, or definitely won't, have money to replace them, may have weighed heavily on his mind.

I fail to see how a dose of realism can be construed as negative. That approach could almost be described as re-writing the truth, and I thought it was only at S6 that this happened.
All true , but only clapping allowed by some ,which is as you say very pig like

I know it's a very unpopular idea , but for me we need to put a bit of trust in the kids , yes sign 4/5 experienced players to fill the gaps, but look to future (unless Jim Ratcliffe realises he's bidding for the wrong United)

If we’re not planning on buying any players and allowing for player wage increases etc then with all of the additional revenue by Christmas the club (or owner) should be in a financial better place let’s hope we can find a positive

It's only unpopular with people who think footballers are electricians and unless they've learned their trade by doing multiple loan spells should not be asked to do anything more complicated than wiring a plug
