Penalty decision yesterday

If you use something like Movavi Screen Capture and record the Blades highlights (not Sky's) then you can analyse frame by frame, and move back and forth at will to get a more objective look at it. Carruthers cuts inside his man and it's such a tight turn the defender ends up looking in the opposite direction. He has his arms out for balance. He can't see Carruthers. His trailing left peg clips Carruthers and he knows it because his arms then immediately assume the innocent "I never touched him ref" posture, even though he can't know whether his man has gone to the turf or not. The ref is better sighted than the camera and gave the correct decision.
If we say Carruthers went down too easily I think we under-estimate the pace he was going at and the delicacy of the "dribble".
This fella is going to get a few penalties for us - get used to it folks!

Sorry mate I don't see that at all. Anyway, intention or not, he had no reason to fall over like that, looks bloody stupid. Each to their own opinion eh?!
the defender stuck his foot out. He was appealing for no foul as he made the foul. nailed on and the ref in a perfect position to see it

You really dislike Chris Wilder don't you, yesterday hoping we would get a points deduction now this ridiculous claim about the penalty

What is your problem?

Why do I dislike Wilder? He's been the best manager we've had in years.
If one of our fans smacked Madine, what do you think would happen?
Watch it. The ball contacts with the defenders leg, not that the defender knew much about it. It was an exaggerated fall which is 50/50 on whether a ref would give it as a penalty.

The way the defender instantly puts his hands up suggests he knows there WAS contact
But it looks like a professional dive (meaning he went down easy) to me but most times the refs do give pens when this happens. So it's hardly a controversial decision.

Even with video evidence the experts would have different opinions regards whether it should be a pen.
Anyway had no affect on the score and there's no argument we were at least 2 goals better than Bolton.

You're dislike of Chris started pre season with you having a go at him at every possible opportunity, yesterday you and only you mentioned we might get a points deduction for somebody throwing eggs at the Bolton coach,Mike Dean gave the penalty,he was closer than you or myself,

Looked at it over and over still looks a penalty to me, as a defender you can't swing your leg at it and miss the ball, as an attacker you are going to jump out of the way of a swinging defenders leg, he made contact with the man not the ball don't matter if it was a leg breaker or as in this case slight contact it is a penalty all day long. If in doubt invoke the Gerrard rule ;)

I had a clear view of it. Samir flicked the ball to his left and Wheater continued his sweeping tackle and as he did, caught Carruthers leg. Samir did then lift his leg as Wheater would have broken it if he had left the weight of his body on that leg and anchored on the pitch.

Either a penalty, attempted GBH, sending off or all 3!

No way was that a pen.

Slow it to 0.25 speed at roughly 1:18 - terrible dive and a shame to see. No contact at all.

As another poster said above that took a bit of the shine off what was a great win yesterday.

Saw him coming and jumped over the defender's leg, adding some false agony to help the ref. Not the worst dive ever as the challenge wasn't necessary, but it's an exaggeration, no question.

INTENT..... why do some people not get this. We have been on the receiving end of it, now enjoy the giving FFS

Looked straight at Dean and in his dramatic 'look at me way' pointed both hands straight at the spot, only surprised he didn't push Billy out of the way and take it himself.
from the Kop Dean did nothing of the sort. He just pointed clearly for a pen. I thought he had a very good game yesterday and ddin't make himself the centre of attention

it was a clear pen from the Kop,Barney. Where were you sat ? Wheater stuck his leg out and clipped him. It was a foul and therefore the correct decision given.. .

Your opinion doesn't count, like I said, you didn't have to make the decision, the man who did gave a penalty

I know that. This whole forum is about voicing opinions, none of it 'counts'. The OP wanted opinions on the penalty, in my opinion he dived, in your opinion he didn't. That's about it really.

He didn't clip him though, watch the video and slow the speed there's no contact at all

Wheater didn't touch the ball, Sammy put it by him and Wheater's leg was between Sammy and the ball. Sammy avoided the leg and made it look as though there had been significant contact.

If you put the ball through a player's legs and then run into him it's not a foul if he doesn't move. If you put it through his legs while his leg is sticking out it is a lot more debatable.

Without that leg he would have walked it in and so for me it was a pen. At the worst it was debatable and not a bad decision.

Awful awful dive. Not surprised Mike Dean awarded it!

I took great pleasure from the result yesterday but I took no pleasure whatsoever from the resulting penalty and goal, I don't like players cheating like that to win penalties, it looks ridiculous and we didn't need to. For me, it just took a little of the shine off the victory yesterday unfortunately!
Really?

Well don't worry, we'll soon train that MKD diving malarkey out of him. We'll leave that sort of thing to the other 71 football league teams, and be the one shining example of a team that never gets a dodgy decision.

It could be tough going if ever we get to the Premier League though.

he went to tackle him and clipped him.Are you denying the defender didn't stick his leg out ? it was quite clear from near the front of the KOP. Fans and the ref don't got slo-mos.The slo mo to me doesn't show anything different .Where in the ground were you sat and did you think it was a pen at the time ?
