Peckenbauer

Big fan of his, noticed prior to him joining 1st team squad that he had that rare quality of an eye for a killer pass, not seen that too much since he made the 1st team.

Whether it’s the advanced level he’s playing at or he’s under orders to play it safe I don’t know, I just hope they don’t coach the flair out of him completely.

Still doing great though.

I really wish we could give this lad a rest…But sadly we simply can’t.
With us also not being a possession based team our midfield are having to work twice as hard. I just hope playing him in a short handed team isn’t going to burn the young lad out.

Obviously people haven't seen Beckenbauer play.

He was a central defender but had the intelligence and all round ability to easily play in midfield
His claim to fame was playing defensively but making late runs into the box and scoring goals.
For a defender his goal scoring record was extra ordinary. He was basically an attacking defender, where opposition teams struggled to pick him up.

Beckenbauer was also a leader, captain material with a great winners attitude and work rate.

Based on playing style, intelligence and stamina to play in defence, midfield and attack
.....there are much stronger similarities to Basham when he had that spell playing the overlapping centre back role.

Think Peck has some great qualities, great attitude and still young
Still think his weakness is pace especially without the ball, opposition midfielders seem to dribble past him quite easily.
I would say that sometimes he sells himself a bit in challenges, allowing better midfielders to react and then he is playing catch up.

But I agree with the positives you mention and its easy to forget how inexperienced he is at this level and what an important role he is being asked to perform for the team, which he is doing pretty well tbf.

Could have been worse. Could have been Razzle
From my teen days, when a copy of Razzle had done the rounds by the time it got to last man most pages were welded together and would have stopped a point blank shotgun cartridge
Not advisable for rainy days though, by half time it would appear you’d got a litre of wall paper paste in your boots

So you’ll also know that a shin pad isn’t going to protect you from a leg breaker.
Maybe so, but my first pair of shin pads were of leather, with five vertical pieces of cane in them, which definitely gave excellent protection from the toe end cloggers of those times.

Wish he'd wear proper shinpads - as a combative player , his tibia is at risk.
Same with O'Hare.
Why are we risking further injuries ?

Feels like every other player's playing like this these days. Davies as well. Arblaster and Brooks too, I think. McAtee did it as well. And Ndiaye and McBurnie, and so on...

Who started it? Must've been Grealish.
Seems such a farce that there’s a rule stipulating that players must wear shin pads but seemingly no detail as to what constitutes adequate protection. Grealish and O’Hare may as well wear postage stamps for their shin pads (on second thoughts, with the price of stamps these days probably cheaper to get proper shinnies!)

Only a matter of time I think. The moment one of those players with tiny shinpads suffers a leg injury the league will react.

Because nobody ever broke a leg whilst wearing shinpads?

The game has thankfully tried to outlaw those horror leg breaker tackles, rightly so. However, it's not to say that bad tackles don't happen but you're less likely to see leg breaks. In any case, they do still happen but I don't think they protect against the force of a tackle strong enough to break a bone.

They protect against kicks to the shins, but nothing else really.

Of course they don't offer 100% protection and the game isn't as reckless as it used to be. But I've seen enough challenges and tackles where I thought, this could've ended much worse if he didn't wear shinpads.

I've thought for a while that wearing proper shin pads should be mandatory at all levels of football.
