Wish he'd wear proper shinpads - as a combative player , his tibia is at risk.
Same with O'Hare.
Why are we risking further injuries ?

Feels like every other player's playing like this these days. Davies as well. Arblaster and Brooks too, I think. McAtee did it as well. And Ndiaye and McBurnie, and so on...

Who started it? Must've been Grealish.

Dunno but it's bonky madness.

I know the tibia is usually quite strong , but when it gets kicked it's very painful so why risk that putting you off your game ?

I appreciate that this was posted tongue in cheek , but the very thought that there is any comparison between Sydie and the great Franz Beckenbauer is a bit much .

The only English defender who could could even be considered to be of his quality is the equally great Joe Shaw , who in certain respects was even better and it still sticks in my craw that he was never given the opportunity to demonstrate this at International level.

I don't get it. I play footy all the time and have done for 30 odd years. I wear shin pads, and barely know they are there. But I know about it when someone crops me on the shins

Beckenbauer was a midfielder when he was Peck's age.

It makes them look proper cool just like cutting holes in the back of the socks or wearing headphones bigger than their head when getting off the bus. There's nothing I admire more than a footballer with 3 wonderfully cut holes in the back of their socks.

Hardly de rigueur. 35 years ago on a Sunday morning if you were the last 3 in the kit bag these were the socks you ended up wearing.

It's a shame they ant drawn eyes and stuff so it's look like a man with a balaclava on the back of they leg

So you’ll also know that a shin pad isn’t going to protect you from a leg breaker.

I think the theory is it helps improve touch/control if you don't have a massive lump of plastic covering the majority of the shin. Probably helps with mobility too.

I used to play with a couple of copies of the Green 'Un stuffed down me socks.
In the late 80s, early 90s we weren't allowed to play on saturdays and sundays unless we had shinnies on, the refs would spot anyone with none on before the match started. I remember one lad on sunday, forgot his shinnies and the ref told him to get off the pitch just before we kicked off, he went off and came back 10 mins later with what looked like shinpads on...a bit later as he was running a fcking Sunday magazine cut in half (remember those in the News of the world?) came flying out of his sock 🤣🤣

Could have been worse. Could have been Razzle

Nah sorry mate, that nickname got retired with Bash.

Obviously people haven't seen Beckenbauer play.

He was a central defender but had the intelligence and all round ability to easily play in midfield
His claim to fame was playing defensively but making late runs into the box and scoring goals.
For a defender his goal scoring record was extra ordinary. He was basically an attacking defender, where opposition teams struggled to pick him up.

Beckenbauer was also a leader, captain material with a great winners attitude and work rate.

Based on playing style, intelligence and stamina to play in defence, midfield and attack
.....there are much stronger similarities to Basham when he had that spell playing the overlapping centre back role.

Think Peck has some great qualities, great attitude and still young
Still think his weakness is pace especially without the ball, opposition midfielders seem to dribble past him quite easily.

I used to play in a team with a Spanish lad at Goodwins a few years ago and he'd turn up with carpet slippers down his socks, skill and touch wise he's the best player I've ever played with dont know if that was down to the slippers though.
