We can both apply cost guesstimates all day.

Objectively, since its' inception we've fallen to the lowest period in the club's history and spent a decade moaning about selling players and pathways for youth from the academy, whilst on the positive side enjoying the progress of Harry Maguire for a year or two.

It's nothing short of fucking pathetic.

UTB

Then we will have to agree to disagree .

But you are wrong . We aren't at the lowest point in our history . And if you've only been complaining about the sale of players since the Academy has been launched then you've been living in a fucking cave somewhere for the last 50 years .

The Academy has more than paid for itself alco . Do the math . I'll stand corrected but the figure I have for running the academy and the facilities is 1 million .

And whilst the training facilities and the academy aren't inextricably linked , I still stand by my assertion that at the point of inception we would have never have spent the same sum on just training facilities . And there isn't a cat in hells chance wed have been granted permission to build the facilities if we hadn't have linked the two .

The Academy is money incredibly well spent .
Having spent the last 5 + years in this division losing money hand over fist !I'm sure Mccabe and Co would have closed the academy if it wasn't worth the expense to keep it running. We have designs on getting back u the leagues and shrinking the club is not the way to go,Mccabe would have taken that route if it was I'm sure.

Releasing so many players last summer meant we had to import so many new faces and the young lads will be disappointed they have not become more involved in the first team in those circumstances.

This is where you, and a few others, go so badly wrong, Woody. "the young lads" are there for the benefit of our club, not the other way round. Their "disappointment" or otherwise is a matter of no consequence whatsoever. They can ease that disappointment by seeking counselling, fucking off, or, best of all, gritting their teeth, getting on with learning their trade and improving. The disappointment should soon subside if they're good enough.

Ironside.......Ironside......

Then we will have to agree to disagree .

But you are wrong .
We aren't in the worst period of the club's history! Out of about 500 man years of opportunity, about 20 have been filled with academy players. If you don't think that's fucking pathetic, then how bad would it get before you did?

The old fourth division ???

They aren't.[/QUOTE
Academy s are the modern way for bringing young players through the structure has changed but bringing young players through has always been at
the for front of most clubs.we did bring Jags and Michael Tongue through, they joined us having been released by clubs ( as 16 year old ) we still developed them so we did bring them through.

Jags monty and Tonge are products of our Academy .

And how many England internationals are in the youth squad you mention ?
Jags, Monty and Tonge were signed by us in the late 1990s before we started having an Academy in 2001 (and well before the Academy centre was built- was it in 2003- or 2004?). Tonge played less than a handful number of Academy matches whilst Jags and Monty have never played in any Academy matches for us

Jagielka and walker are .

They might be in todays pantomime football but these two really aren't that great. Walker's a good athlete, is ok bombing forward but his defending isn't all that clever. As to Jags? Failed at full back, stunk in midfield and eventually found a slot at centre half where his pace helped his poor positional play.

Love the fact that Walker's a Blade but not getting carried away that he's a patch on Len Badger.

Both would have walked into any Harris side .

Walkers arguably the best right back to ever play for the Club ..... panto costume aside of course ;)

Okay so they came through the youth system at united. The fact that it is called The Academy now, they still came through as young players at the club.

Setting up an Academy and running it every year is very costly. In the last few years the EPPP has downgraded our Academy.

I prefer the old youth set up

So we spend a million plus a year, and other than being a division or two below our natural habitat, nothing has changed.

Hmmmm.

So
Eh? He started at Wendy and he played for the 1st team before moving to Man City and then to us!
sorry pal, that post was a mistake on my part.
My point on Jags etc was they were still brought through the club from a young age where is is pre academy or post academy.

So setting up the Academy has meant us being in League 1 for the last 6 years ??? Kinell alco , it's one thing being unhappy with the Academy , but is another thing blaming it for our current demise !

And for what it's worth ..... since the Academy was formed we've actually spent more seasons in our " natural habitat " than anywhere else . Do go on though ..... im genuinely interested to see what else the academy has been responsible for . Brexit . The recession . 9/11 ??????

Since we had the Academy in 2001 we have had only one season in the top tier
Pre Academy we have had 59 seasons in the top tier!

No they wouldn't. I can assure you. Were you around? The Everton player, as Ted hints, is hugely overrated. When England caps meant something the Everton player would not even have been mentioned.

Jagielka is currently in his 11th straight year as a first choice player in the top division and has over 30 international caps and has played in the World Cup finals.

The number of United players who have achieved these things is zero.

Overrated? Maybe. World class? No. But the idea that our uncapped defenders from the "glory" years were better than him doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

Be honest, Jags, Cahill, Smalling etc. all have England caps at centre half and they're all bang average. Unfortunately, England caps don't hold the value they once did. Our top level players really aren't all that good, we're in the international doldrums at the moment and centre half is one of our weakest areas.

You'll be in the international wilderness for many years to come, England and all you England supporters.
Why?

Simple.
The over indulgence of PL clubs to invest in foreign commodities and managers. Give it another decade and what you've witnessed the North of Ireland XI, cherry picking players from L1/L2/SPL reserves will be the norm for the next coach badge riddled second rate Englishman.

Alan Curbishley is playing the long game.

England caps don't hold the value they once did? Check out who Brian Deane won 2 of his 3 caps against, and who else was in the side.

Or try 10 years Earlier when we beat Luxembourg 9-0. How "valuable" is a cap in that game?

10 years earlier, Tony Currie's high point as an England international was playing in a team that didn't even qualify for the finals.

Jags got done over by Luis Suarez. England in 1970 got done over by WestGermany. No Blades players or ex Blades were good enough to play.
