Oztumer

This article tries to rule out our interest but it's actually quite promising.

https://www.expressandstar.com/spor.../12/walsall-oztumer-rumours-wide-of-the-mark/

Also this bit in The Star:
"Sources at Walsall, where goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has been linked with a move to South Yorkshire, claimed last night that United also made a tentative enquiry about Erhun Oztumer towards the end of the season although that was before they offered Jay O’Shea a permanent deal."

Signing O'Shea won't affect our interest in other attacking midfielders. We will have known O'Shea would be offered a contract well before the end of the season - before the enquiry for Oztumer, and wouldn't still be linked with all these other attacking midfielders if signing him would end our interest in them.

So to me this is probably just confirmation that we are interested.

The article seems to be clutching at straws a bit and out of all the reasons given for those clubs not being interested ours is the weakest.

The interest may have been rekindled if O'Shea is stalling over his contract offer.

Possible, but I find it unlikely that O'Shea and Oztumer would be considered as filling the same role in the squad. Especially as Oztumer would cost 500k+.

He is quick - certainly over 15-20 yards.

He's a pure number 10 and that's where he'd play.

He's a ball carrier and an intelligent link up player with good passing ability.

He's got a rocket shot on him.

He's a bit like Carruthers and does have flair and skill, but can do things he can't do.

He'd give us something we haven't already got. Might not start every game but would produce when he plays.

I think Wilder might be looking to stock a few number 10 types to safeguard our current system. If we have no number 10 who's good enough or consistent enough then we'll struggle. If we have 3 or more who can play there then there should always be one of them in good form, if one of them doesn't nail down the position.

Sounds like the chap at Stoke City whose name as completely slipped my mind plays for Switzerland ??

Shaqiri is about 5'5 and built like a brick shithouse. Quicker than Oztumer, an out and out winger.

Oztumer is technically gifted, more like David Silva. Can pick out passes all over and carry the ball with quality. Scores a decent amount as well.

Oooh......what about Scholes, or Archie Gemmill, or Alan Ball, or Eden Hazard? Sure there are plenty of others, but at the moment I'm a tad fuzzy.

The great Willie Carlin. What a player. This Turkish lad reminds me of him. When you are physically very small you have to be a bit special on the ball. Willie was, so were the greats Archie Gemmill and Alan Ball and so is Ozty, as I shall call him if he signs.

Forgot Carlin, excellent player and just the sort most sides would benefit from.

Would prefer Carruthers because he has a bit more physicality. I think Oztumer is limited by his presence and consequently would struggle to do the box-to-box work necessary at the higher level.

Goals from Midfield, we don't have enough of them, he'd certainly change that, great shot, excellent vision, good free kick taker, always looks good against us.

Not afraid to shoot anyway, some decent finnishing and most from outside the box

Got a picture of me and "Wee Willie" Carlin in Majorca, got to be 20 years ago, when he had a restaurant in Cala Millor area

As a player Willie was a treat, exactly the type of player that did the simple things well and was able to orchestrate play......@Pinchy is a devotee of Carlin and rightly so.

I like the kid, but I'm a bit meh, because he ended up at Walsall after Peterborough gave him a free!

I'm exactly the same. However if he came I'd be very happy. Goal scoring number 10. My preferred one is Holmes. But there's an argument for quite a few for the number 10 role.

We already have Duffy and Carruthers, Brooks to come back after his loan spell, O'Shea offered a deal; how many do we want?
I suggest we are not looking for a number 10 unless one of the above leaves. Unless of course TC wants to come out of retirement

You beat me to the draw Pinchy .

'Come on without Come on within . You've never seen anthing like the mighty . Carlin . I once met him an hour before kick off , scoffing a Mars bar in the shop on John Street.

Watching his goals he would be a real asset and replacement for the aging Duffy. Think he might attract interest from the money bags coming down, lower PL clubs and the likes of the pigs with a moneybags owner. Question is as usual is he prepared to sit on a bench and count his money or ply his craft?

I just can't think of where he would play.
Fleck has that CM role tied up.
He puts some lovely balls in the box but is he a natural winger? He beats men and has an eye for goal but at 5'3" could he play at the side of Fleck.
I suppose he could replace Duffy (who I really hope we keep) and have him as a number 10 but like I've said previously I thought that was where we were hoping Carruthers would end up.
I think you've covered it, he'd compete and probably replace Duffy, which I personally think we need to do. I certainly take him over O'Shea, but I'd look to replace both anyway.
