We clearly have a comprehensive list of attacking midfield options. No more than you'd expect with the current management.

What does surprise me is that we didn't take him on a free last summer.
 
Oztumer would be my personal top target for that CAM position. He's better than any of the others we've been linked with, Including Holmes and also has age on his side
 
He's a very entertaining player and I'd love to see him in our shirt.

If he had 6 months in the Championship doing what he's done in L1 then he'd be worth £3m+. So if we could get him for 500k that would be great business IMO, and it should be possible because he only has a year left on his contract.
 
Assuming he would repeat what he has done before in the championship!
 
Is he not very similar to Carruthers?
Even in stature?
I wanted a box to box midfielder in the Coady mould.
Preferably bigger than 5'3" as well.
 

Are we assuming that carruthers and Duffy are not good enough for the championship?
 
I've been very impressed with this Oztumer guy. When he came to the lane with Peterboro the season before last he ran the show in midfield - and scored a great goal. He was far too quick and too clever for our lads at the time.

I was surprised he ended up moving to Walsall tbh. When we played them at their place this season he was at it again. He is such a clever player and was behind all of their best moves. When he went off in the second half quite a few "decent" Blades applauded him. I personally shouted out, "Well played lad" - and a few others around me turned round and agreed. He was the best player on the pitch and we were bloody glad to see him taken off - although it was too late by then as Simon Moore had already gifted them 3 goals.

To the guy who has said, "isn't he like Carruthers", the answer is no he's not. Oztumer is what used to be called, in old-fashioned terms, a "schemer". This is a midfield player that is literally all over the park, linking up play and creating openings for others. It's not that Oztumer is a bag of tricks himself - which is more how I'd describe Carruthers - but he's such an intelligent player. A bit more like Coutts in terms of the role he plays - but instead of doing that deep, he's all over the park with it.

Would love to see us sign him - put it this way - if we don't then whoever signs him will be tough opponents when we play them next season. He's really that good.
 
He played well against us at the Lane too. He was all over the park causing mayhem. It was his beautifully flighted ball that put our defence in a dither for their winner.

Fab player. I hope we're in for him.
 
Has the quality to execute the final pass or score himself. Slight concern is we'd be adding to our midget quota. I'm sue Wilder will make sure he remedies that too.
 
I just can't think of where he would play.
Fleck has that CM role tied up.
He puts some lovely balls in the box but is he a natural winger? He beats men and has an eye for goal but at 5'3" could he play at the side of Fleck.
I suppose he could replace Duffy (who I really hope we keep) and have him as a number 10 but like I've said previously I thought that was where we were hoping Carruthers would end up.
 
As good a player as Oztumer is, I am not sure there is space for him in this team. The thing we lack is pace and as a good a player as he is he is very lightweight and not the quickest.

Which is why I believe we have gone for someone with out an out pace in Thomas.

We do not really have any out and out wingers in our team, and Oztumer tome seems more of a Duffy/Carruthers role.
I am not sure he is better than them anyway, this year he has a stand out season, but season before 6 in 35 and was released.

Stats:
Oztumer : 15 goals in 45 appearances
Jay O'Shea: 11 goals in 43 appearances (from January been on subs bench a lot)

So Oztumer does out perform O'Shea, statistically but the other factors are a poor Chesterfield team, and since Jan he has been mainly used a sub.

Oztumer may cost £500-£1mill (guesswork) and O'Shea is a free. I know who I would be choosing, we can use the money elsewhere.
 
How many midgets have been successful at championship level and above ? Sure when we played at Walsall he was good going forward but when they didn't have the ball he was a passenger easily brushed aside. Difficult to see him being a success with us.
 
We have just moved scougal on, in my opinion a similar type of player.
Carruthers assuming he is staying is the preferred option to swap and change with Duffy
 
He is quick - certainly over 15-20 yards.

He's a pure number 10 and that's where he'd play.

He's a ball carrier and an intelligent link up player with good passing ability.

He's got a rocket shot on him.

He's a bit like Carruthers and does have flair and skill, but can do things he can't do.

He'd give us something we haven't already got. Might not start every game but would produce when he plays.


I think Wilder might be looking to stock a few number 10 types to safeguard our current system. If we have no number 10 who's good enough or consistent enough then we'll struggle. If we have 3 or more who can play there then there should always be one of them in good form, if one of them doesn't nail down the position.
 
The reports coming out from Walsall newspaper previous were that of MaCarthy and Etherirdge.

Oooh......what about Scholes, or Archie Gemmill, or Alan Ball, or Eden Hazard? Sure there are plenty of others, but at the moment I'm a tad fuzzy.
 

Wonderful player, & hungry/driven too what with his non-league background, but just can't see this one.

Too many number 10s spoil the broth, as the old saying goes. (Or summat like that.)
