Some very good players there but Tony Currie what an absolute .....sorry too many words I could use, fill it in for yourself! I was a no.10 and tried to model myself on TC, including trying to take the piss, seems a long time ago now doesn't it.

Obviously doesn't include John Hope and Trevor Hockey who were signed midway through that season. Wasn't David Ford and Paddy Buckley part of the squad that season too?

Hope, Hockey and Ford signed for us in January 1971, the same day as Tudor left for Newcastle. Buckley's only appearance that season was coming on as sub in the 2-1 defeay at Bolton on 16th January 1971 (Tudor scored in his last league appearance for us and it was Hodgy's last too)

I only know some of this because I've got the full set of 'Lane Line-Ups' in a binder from that season. I was actually born during that season!

Did any other players feature that season?

Mick Heaton played a few games, Graeme Crawford played in the 5-1 away midweek win at Pompey (Tudor played in CB in Eddie's absence). A few days later Hodgy and Eddie returned to the line up for the Wendy game, Tudor was dropped to bench but scored the famous winner!

My first game watching us was probably 1972/73.
I have no idea who we were playing though because I was only a little kid and I used to just wander into the ground on my own when the big gates on Bramall Lane were opened up to let the fans out, usually with about 20 minutes left to play.

Other highlights I recall from the programmes, apart from the legendary 5-1 demolition of Cardiff in the penultimate game that secured promotion.....

Coming back from 3-0 down to draw with Bristol City
Beating Wednesday 3-2 at the Lane
Coming back from 2-0 down to draw with QPR
Two late goals to beat Millwall including a Trevor Hockey goal scored while laying on the turf.
The 'Flying Welshman' v Birmingham - Gil Reece scores a superb diving header and another after beating 4 Birmingham players, 2 policeman and an ice-cream seller (in the programme action notes).

It's such a shame that video footage of every game isn't available as it is now.

Any others?

The two Cardiff fans on the pitch with a flag before the match.
Bill Dearden tear-arsing to the BL end and lifting it over the goalie, absolute pandemonium on 't kop.
Dearden cost £10k from Chester. 10 freakin grand.
Suppose Silent will fill the gaps and correct me if wrong. UTB

My mate who had a season ticket at the side of me missed the Cardiff game because he had a piano lesson.
He pretended afterwards that he wasn’t that bothered because he thought we would win anyway!
Pah, one of the best nights ever at The Lane.
