Our rivalries with other local clubs

Regards our local rivals.

Have a very small dislike towards Barnsley
Actually like Rotherham, as I lived the first 8 years of my life in Brinsworth, so they were my local team.
Have no interest in Doncaster or Chesterfield, probably a very small like towards them as they are local.

The only strong dislikes I have are Wednesday of course, Leeds and probably Liverpool.
Really hated the deluded over expectations of the supporters of all 3 clubs when they are doing well.
Over the years I’ve memories of all 3 clubs having arrogant self entitled horrible fans, so I always feel a sense of pleasure when these clubs dip out and don’t get the success they feel they deserve.

Don’t mind Forest but that’s because I always liked Brian Clough.

Don’t really get the hatred towards West Ham. I know that they cheated on 2006/07, but that was with very different owners who soon moved on. We got a massive pay off from them. And let’s be honest, if it had been us in their shoes we’d have gloated at getting away with it! End of the day relegation was Warnocks fault, we were ten points clear with 10 games to go, with 6 of the last 7 all winnable / shouldn’t lose games. If I remember we took 7 points out of those 18 (Man U away being the 7th game where nothing was hoped for)

Like many others I don't really see the other Radio Sheffield as local rivals. I'm more bothered by clubs of scale within easy driving distance like Leeds, Forest and Derby.

Leeds are just hateful for some reason
I've really enjoyed the games down the years with Forest
Derby less so but it's a good away trip

Back in 2003

Our top 3 Rivals are Wednesday 1st, Leeds 2nd and Barnsley/Forest 3rd.

But what was interesting was that even then. Ipswich had us as there 2nd biggest rivalry after Norwich. Whilst Norwich had us as there 3rd, Forest also the same. We didn't register on Leeds's fans rivalry.

Fast forward 9 years. We now mention West Ham and Leeds have us down as 3rd Rivals. But Norwich and Ipswich appear to like us and have removed us from their enemy list.

I hate Forest, absolutely hate them. Nothing to do with any Miners or scabs or anything like that
It's just that the four most vile, disgusting people I've ever met in my whole life were all Forest fans.

I know they can't all be bad, but when you've only met four in a working or personal environment and all four of them were the biggest tossers you've ever met, you start to draw a certain conclusion

I'm the same with Leeds. I've only 'known' three in our area and, although they didn't even know each other, they could have been triplets. Bald/shaven headed, drunken violent twats, all three.

Ditto with Wednesday. I was talking to a mate last night and I said 'All Wednesdayites are cunts.' He said 'Surely not all of them?' I replied 'Possibly not but, like Leeds and Millwall, enough of them are cunts to make me hate them all.'

But it's the media that likes to invent these 'local derbies' to try and whip up interest. So we have shit like 'The M18 derby' (Donnie and Scunnie), 'The M69 derby' (Coventry & Leicester, even though they're 24 miles and light years apart), Leeds/Man. United (see 'M69 derby') and the ludicrous 'Humber derby' (Scunthorpe, Hull and Grimsby ) whose only connection is the fact that all three are utter shitholes.

Teams rise, teams fall but some fans like to hang on to the pretence that they're 'local rivals' even if they're in different divisions. With that thought in mind, I'd like to see a new 'local derby' next season, played between two teams very close (in geography, mindset and sheer fuckwittery) whose 'bitterest rivals' (even though neither are actually in Sheffield) have left them far behind - Wendy & Baaarnsley, 'The A61 derby'.

I’m guessing Ipswich and Norwich don’t have much to dislike other than those competing in and around them in the league at the time due to geographical distances.

Maybe, the Ipswich one stems from Tarrico?
Not sure what the Norwich beef is.

Leeds have so many rivals that we’re probably an afterthought to them.

In the 80s, Leeds was our main derby game and the hatred was quite intense, particularly after the Mel Eves game in March '85. The Barnsley rivalry seemed to emerge around 1997 when they pipped us for promotion, whereas the Forest rivalry seemed to emerge after we beat them in the play-offs and in the FA Cup.

I think it goes back further than that with forest .we dished out a few humiliations before then, including our first win near xmas in 1990. and sending them down at the city ground cloughie's last game.

I also hate forest a lot. I wonder if you’re a similar age to me. I kind of came of age bladeswise during the triple assault season and that play off semi really made me dislike them. They also had some horrible fans sat in the exec box just behind me in south stand.

Like Topplayersleave I’ve also had the ‘pleasure’ of knowing various Forest fans through Uni and then work. They’re some of the most deluded, arrogant set of twats I’ve ever come across. Did you know they won back-to-back European Cups? Just don’t mention that it was when dinosaurs were still alive.

They genuinely believe they’re one of the biggest clubs in England. It’s as if they’re in competition with the S6 lot. No wonder those two love each other.

Don’t worry, they hate us as much as we do them. My old boss (Forest) once referred to us as “the scummy club, with the scummy fans, from the scummy city”.

That 3-1 FA Cup win was one of the sweetest, especially in a time when we were shit.

In terms of Hatred , it's Wednesday , Leeds , & Forest by a mile .Then a group of clubs I dislike include all the Birmingham area clubs, & the likes of Hull , Bradford , & Derby. Local clubs like Barnsley, Chesterfield , Rovrum, & Rovers are just small town clubs in the shadow of a big city, with a massive chip on their shoulders, and are just a minor irritant .

Rotherham never had an issue with at all - also I like Paul Warne , think he has done a grand job considering their budget and think he deserves a shot at a slightly bigger club - also pretty sure CW is a fan of his which always sways my opinion !
Was impressed with them at their place this season , they should have easily won and fully deserved to

It's just Wendy for me,couldn't care less about what the other local clubs do unless we play them,and surprised so many have elevated Barnsley to major rival status.
Leeds?..it's only when we play them these days,i still dislike them but not that bothered now until we play them...Don't particularly like ManU because of plastic glory seeking types up and down the country.
Yeah South Barnsley are the ones I want to see lose every week,their shithole of aground makes me look away if I drive past,can't stand seeing a fan in a Wendy shirt walking down the street,can't stand the arrogance and delusion of a large section of their support...they're good for a laugh though.

I don't mind Rotherham, I certainly don't have any hatred towards them and the same can be said for Doncaster and Chesterfield. Barnsley I have no feeling either way, though it seems some of their fans think we have a rivalry, I can't see it myself. As for the pigs, that goes without saying...

Further afield, I don't mind Forest, the Missus is from that neck of the woods (no pun intended) although I know there is a hatred there from the older fans which I guess stems from the whole miners strike which then passes down to the younger generations who call them scabs without really knowing the meaning behind it.

Generally like to see the local sides do well.
The exceptions being Dem Pigs for obvious reasons and Barnsley.

My antipathy for Barnsley mainly comes from the fact that they’ve been trying to create a rivalry with us for years....so I suppose in a way they’ve won.

West Ham
Forest
Liverpool
Coventry

I wasn’t keen either on Bolton, Palace and West Brom for various reasons but i’m over that now.

Oh, I don't like Liverpool either (think they're "it"), Newcastle (Geordie massive, won nowt for 50 years), Manure, increasingly Man City, most London clubs, Peterborough (don't know why, just don't), Luton (similar), most southern clubs, most northern clubs, most Midlands clubs, all Welsh clubs except Newport. I don't mind any club which plays in red and white stripes. I quite like Rovrum in a cute little brother sort of way. I like underdogs (mostly, with exceptions). I like the Blades and not really let else!

No one can dispute that Wednesday are our biggest local rivals. But in a week in which we are also playing Rotherham, which of the other local clubs are our biggest rivals?
I would go for:
1. Barnsley, in the 80s we had some feisty clashes with them, I remember the Futcher brothers both being thugs. When I started watching in the early 80s Barnsley were in a higher league, I remember a League Cup game against them which seemed like a huge game at the time. Their season in the Premier League led to many Barnsley fans having delusions of grandeur and even last season there seems to be an edge to our games.
2. Chesterfield, a lot of Blades fans come from the Chesterfield area and they were a bit of a bogey side for us in the 80s, particularly in our 89 promotion side when they did the double over us despite going down.
3.Rotherham, there has been a mutual respect between the two clubs, and we loaned them a couple of players when they were in financial difficulties in the Warnock era. I might change my mind on Saturday but I can't remember many feisty games between us, we both share a mutual loathing of Wednesday
4. Doncaster Rovers, I don't sense much of a rivalry at all. I recall the Donny chairman once claiming they could become a bigger club than us and Wednesday. I like them for helping Billy's career progress!

Rotherham are my favourite local club.

I have a soft spot for them and also a lot of respect for them. They have a very decent set of fans. No airs and graces. No arrogance. No hatred.

I’d love to see them stay in the Championship. For their fans sake.

Credit to them for being at this level in the first place. It’s a small wonder.

Having said all that, I expect us to beat them heavily on Saturday. And I’ll enjoy the moment if we do. But all the best to them and theirs for the remainder of the season.

I've lived in Donny since birth, so consider them my 2nd team and go to watch them if we aren't playing.

For that reason I tend to dislike Rotherham and not really care about the Dingles. Like others, my hatred is saved for Leeds/Forest/West Ham.

Personally for me, second on the list after Wednesday it has to be Nottingham Forest.

I work with a lot of Forest fans and they are cut from exactly the same cloth as Wednesday fans and the similarities are striking. The same delusions they are a massive club, who belong in the top flight despite not being in the top flight for nearly 20 years. The same endless boasting about whar they won many years ago. Because their prices have dropped and attendances have risen they now have added attendances to their list of things to boast about. I also know for a fact they hate us a lot more than they hate Wednesday. I’ve got a lot of time for Notts County though and think they have got a great set of knowledgable and loyal fans.

I don’t like Barnsley either, and East Anglia is a odd one as many years ago I used to despise Ipswich but not mind Norwich, but now the roles have been reversed. I’ve got a lot of time for Rotherham and have a soft spot for them and like to see them doing well, I’ve often been to see them when United have been away or I’ve not been able to get.

The one club I’ve held a grudge against for the last 30 years is Bristol City. They broke my heart when I was 10 years old and they relegated us, and I’ve never forgiven them for it

Not as ‘local’ but I dislike Forest more than any of the clubs you’ve mentioned. Even more than Leeds.

Barnsley I agree with but not on the level of Wednesday, Forest and Leeds.

Don’t mind Chesterfield and have no feelings towards either Doncaster or Rotherham. I know I sound like a piggy here but they’re too small to be classed as rivals. Just saying what we all think.

It's strange how each fan has different opinions in disliking other teams. Locally it's the Pigs, Leeds and Barnsley.
Nationally I cannot abide Liverpool, Spurs or West Ham.
I have no dislike of Forest. I fail to see why some do appear to hate them?
The rest I am indifferent to.
