Don't know if there's any truth in this or not, but was told that this season is shit or bust for them. Chansiri wants up this season and hence why Rhodes was brought in

Not the end of the world for them next season if they don't go up, but it would be the end of the big spending
That would be daft so I hope it's true. Anyone who thinks they can take over a championship club and get them up in two seasons without parachute payments has to be prepared to put more into the business than the amount relegated clubs are getting from the parachute payments. That's the only was to buy promotion. Otherwise, you have to be prepared to invest steadily over a number of years, like Brighton. You may get lucky and go up after a couple of years if everything falls into place but history shows it's not likely.

When you look at what Wendy are shelling out in wages to the likes of Hooper, Forestieri, Rhodes, Fletcher etc with Westwood, Hutchinson Winall and Westwood not far behind how does that square up to the Barnsley FC's Operating Modem yet there are only eight points separating the two clubs ?
Throwing money at a footballing problem does not always solve the problem - arguably CW has spent much less that his predecessors yet has formed a potential promotional winning unit in his first season !
If and only if we manage to get across the line this year (I have been watching the Blades for far to long to assume anything!) then I for one would be highly delighted to be where Barnsley FC currently sit in the Championship ( and they have arguably sold their best two players ) !!!

Barnsley seem to have cracked it in terms of their model. A bit Southampton-esque in how they've gone about their business, albeit on a smaller scale. If we can replicate in line with the size of our club (at the moment I'd theoretically put us somewhere between Southampton and Barnsley in terms of potential) then you wouldn't argue.

And if they don't go up it will look even worse
The January transfer window just gone won't be included in those figures,
And they've not even paid for Jordan Rhodes yet

Looking at the Championship, really only Villa and Pigs are shelling out huge money in fees. Newcastle have a huge budget which a 50k average crowd demands, but the others at the top haven't spent mega money. Brighton, Hudds, L***s and Reading have not ploughed huge sums in, and as Burnley showed last season, it is possible to budget and be successful.

While the Tuna fella is at S6, why would they give a monkeys how much they are spending, in the main is it he who foots the bill. And he clearly thinks that big sums equals success. Carlos Whateverthefuckhisnameis won't care, he knows he's out of the door if they don't go up this season anyway.

There is no doubt that if we go up we will have to invest in quality to survive. But an extra £5m or so in TV money will help, and I'd much rather us look to bring on up and coming players rather than pay over the odds on Premier League reject shite like Fletcher.

FFS, first BushBlade says we need to be the new West Brom, then Revolution wants us to copy Wendy and now Wards wants us to be the Dingles!

I wish I'd never started this thread.

It will end in tears at the sty .........................

.........................if my prayers are answered

This is the reason I support attempts to improve matchday and non matchday revenue streams, including investment in the academy. Less boom and bust and dependence on a benefactor model.

But even then it's not enough to fund the extra cost.

Let's say 22000 folk pay an extra £15 a ticket that an extra £330k a game....over a season that's £7.6m.

Now despite these increased costs, they still lost £30m....with probably bigger losses to come next season if they miss the promotion...and even worse if they miss a play off final!

So even if their average gate paid that extra money out, they are still being funded by tuna man.

Me too. I don't want to shag my sister.

Fireman sized.

Big hard hunky fireman sized or Fireman Sam?

I have to say, you do seem to have cooled on the idea of pimping your sister. I was prepeared to offer at least two goats plus some shiny beads.

It's not a gamble if he keeps chucking money in.

And if (god forbid) they go up, it's very sustainable.

"What happens when the money runs out?" Sounds like "just wait until the co-op pull the plug and Wednesday go bust". How did that work out?

They got very lucky in their brush with liquidation. The Coop might have acted differently, Mandy may been otherwise engaged. They could have done a Rangers.

They might have survived poverty but they've had an entire generation of nothingness due to the Sibon and De Bilde era.

I don't want United to sail that close to the wind. Either our owners act as benefactors or we cut our cloth. No gambling with the very existence of our club please.

I didn't pimp her. I said I didn't want to shag her, in reference to the time honoured joke that Dingles are inbred.

You're very close to being offensive now.

I remain amazed by the criticism this guy gets from some Blades fans for increasing spending, buying good players, keeping other good players and seeing the Pigs improve season on season as a result (annoyingly).

McCabe hasn't gone more than 12 months without cutting spending or selling out best players in more than a decade. I hope he shows the same commitment as the tuna baron has so far if we go up.
You are confident that Wendy will get promotion at the end of this season? Chansiri decided on a 2 year plan in summer 2015. What is his plan for next season if they dont get up this May?

When was the last time we made a profit over a season?

Who knows? I'd imagine he has one. People tend to have contingency plans. Sadly the Mike McDonald/Kevin McCabe contingency plan is cut budget and sell your best players if you lose the playoff final.
