I hope you can still say that at this time next year.

I can't see how Brexit can avoid border checks on people, either between the south and the north or alternatively either side of the Irish sea.

Either way you're going to massively upset one community and the terrorists haven't gone away, they're merely biding their time.

I fear that the 2020s will be the new 1970s.

I also can't beilieve how few politicians seem to be resting on their laurels over Ireland and pretending that the problem doesn't exist.

Actually, Hallam FC did dissolve for a year in 1886 so Maidenheads claim would be correct as the oldest continually used ground. So that's fair enough.

Hallam FC were also kicked off for a couple of years by the landlord of the Plough who didn't like their supporters. The cricket club continued to play there and Hallam returned and have played there for more years in total than Maidenhead, although not an unbroken period.

History is all around us and yet our wonderful council is more interested in chopping down trees and sending its own electors to prison, than trying to benefit from the early days of the beautiful game.

It was a landlord of the Plough,Tom Armitage who toured Australia playing cricket for England (before the Ashes) then used the money he'd earned to buy the Plough. He later went to the States and played for them, which I think makes him the only cricketer to have been capped for two countries.

I've got an attitude too, but I'm not a landlord, just a regular wanker.

Mine generally revolve around teams I managed on Premier/Championship/Football Manager:

Halifax Town: the old Premier Manager 2 and 3 games would only let you start out at Conference level. Halifax was by far the best choice - particularly if you could pick up Conroy from Preston at the start of the game.

Cambridge United: last Football Manager side about 5 years ago - I'll look for their results but no more

Brentford: local side.

Arbroath: following my all-conquering Championship Manager 02 side

Union Berlin/Roma/Marseille: managed to glory in various editions of FM

SpVgg Unterhaching: went to a game on my stag. Quality German third division game - Unterhaching 3-3 Energie Cottbus.

FC Barcelona: a friend bought me the Barca - A People's Passion book in 1999 and I loved the history. It's a bit sad in a way that they've eroded some of the things which set them apart over the past few years.

heh thanks man .. weird thing is that most of them are self proclaimed Scots yet think they’re Irish .. i’m struggling with it to be honest

It comes from when the English, brought the Scots over to manage / run / take care of the land , hundreds of yours ago
A sort of divide and rule , not unlike the caste system in India
They even have there own language and
I believe they get grants for speaking Ulster /Scots , no me neither but at least the English taxpayer is picking up the expense of course
Hence somes affinity to certain Scottish things
And hence somes affinity to certain English things
I’ve no time for either of the sectarian nonsense that comes out on a regular basis
And I’m a catholic btw
When they go to the old firm derby do they still ask you to turn your watches back 200 years

I'm in Twickenham/Teddington. Griffin Park (5.1 miles) is technically 2nd closest league ground but as the closest is Kingsmeadow (4.4 miles) I've discounted it: it's the other side of the river and I have a similar view as Ball_Sup (Phil) to AFC Wimbledon kicking out Kingstonian. Nearest football stadium is the Beveree (Hampton & Richmond Borough - 2.1miles) but The Stoop (1.3 miles) and Twickenham (1.8 miles) are closer still.

Which teams (if any) other the mighty Blades do you have a soft spot for and why?

I'll kick us off.

Spurs - Was a huge Gazza fan growing up and always like how they play

Everton - Uncle is from just outside Liverpool and I used to go to quite a few matches with him - proper club

Bradford - One of my first away matches (was about 8 years old) and always remember being sat in a beer garden chatting to their fans, who were dead friendly and playing on the climbing frame/swings with their kids

Portsmouth - Same as Everton story really. Local relative and all that

Chesterfield - Where I live now so always like to see them do well

Borussia Dortmund - Met a guy on holiday in Turkey a few years back who was part of the technical staff there - Lovely bloke who had some amazing stories to tell and even posted out a home shirt to my lad when he got back - Will be going there next season to take in a game or two

Sampdoria - Bought one of their shirts when I was young on holiday and kept an eye out for them ever since

Gillingham- my mums called Gillian.....

Dagenham and redbridge - bought one of their shirts for 50p I wore it whenever my blades shirts were in the wash !

Luton - thought the plastic pitch was amazing

Most teams in red and white - Lincoln/Brentford/Southampton etc
