How were they both today?

I thought Carruthers was clearly a bit rusty, had a very mixed game. Clearly talented, and I think he's going to be very good for us, but I hope Coutts comes back in for the next game.

O'Shea was very positive. Moves the ball a bit quicker, and his distribution was good. Great cross to Hanson for the goal.

I thought they both did Ok ,difficult for Carruthers as he I think he is more a Fleck type player than Coutts. Coutts seems to find a lot of space and has a lot of time on the ball ,that is his main talent and he will rework play again and again ,Carruthers cant be expected to play the same role but obviously has ability and will come good. Oshea looked very lively ,bit more direct than a clearly disappointed Duffy ,which is what we needed at the time. All 17 players will be needed and that is what makes us better than the rest we have stronger depth , due to Wilders ability in the transfer market.
I think Peterboro will go up with us ,maybe via the play offs

CW was over the moon with Carruthers on radio , he said he took a chance playing him with Coutts failing a fitness test as Samir was not 100 per cent fit yet but he battled through it

I know some will disagree, but it was nice to see Samir leave something on one of their players for his yellow card...they were getting 'stuck in' at that point and the ref was struggling....we've missed someone who can give a bit back...

Carruthers did a lot of things right, as you expect a player of his obvious quality to do, but his passing let him down a bit today. Looked perfectly comfortable playing in the deeper role.

O'Shea made a good impact, direct and looked after the ball well, we needed someone with his sort of energy and mobility with Hanson still up there with Sharp. I never like it when Duffy goes off but this substitution worked out well.

What is really telling (about Carruthers), is that he will have been up to MK's fitness levels but clearly not ours.

That's a credit to how sharp we are as athletes and footballers

How were they both today?

My opinion - thought Carruthers was average compared to the team as a whole. Didn't seem to pick up the pace of the game.

O'Shea - looks an astute signing - very composed on and off the ball - good movement.

Just to add - Fleck was outstanding - It's a TEN from Len.........well, me actually.

agreed about the passing - room for improvement in that department.

Carruthers looked a bit laboured and off the pace to me. Still think he'll be a very good signing in time.

O'Shea made the difference for me when he came on. Despite plenty of possession we created little with too many poor deliveries from out wide.

Fleck, Wright and JOC excellent as well.

Yep - ball in from the flanks was poor today - one or two peaches - especially from O'Shea for the goal.

Freeman got behind them plenty of times - it's an area he needs to work on.

Fleck was absolutely phenomenal today. What a signing. He ran the game for long spells, and his passing and movement were top drawer. Best signing of the season for me...he's just too good for this division when he's on form.

Anyone else absolutely shit themselves when Carruthers had that nasty looking impact on his right knee?

Was thinking it could have been vulnerable because he injured his knee previously, but just checked and it was his left knee that he injured at Southend. He limped for a bit this time too but luckily played on and recovered from it.

Tbf to Freeman he does put in 2 or 3 and sometimes 4 dangerous balls into the box each game, which is enough for this level. Most of the time they are not met my our players and the opposition are relieved. Sometimes, like today with Hanson, our player doesn't score but I reckon Freeman he'd easily be on 10+ assists this season if we did convert his crosses.

Sounds promoising - especially oshea

Good to have competition for places.

Wasn't there, but for O'Shea to come into the game for his debut with the game poised, having been keen to impress shows great temperament and composure. He's playing for a contract here too so has a lot in the line.

Wilder will be a master if he manages to keep that little lot happy.

Agree. Carruthers has it but he isn't quite ready yet. O Shea looked excellent I thought.

100% spot on pal

i thought samir played well. yes a few passes went astray but he is clearly talented and will get better when he has a run of games and his match sharpness improves

Players always make more mistakes if they are playing positively.

Easy to always find a man when playing 20 yard balls sideways and backwards.

Wilder knows what he wants from his midfielders.

Much more creativity in the squad now.

This is one of the best things i've heard. We'll play sides who are better at football than us (not in this division or this season though) and we'll need a few players to rough up the opposition when it happens.

I'm not sure of Bolton's style of play but I think they'll adopt an aggressive manner to upset our style of play. In recent years under different managers Preston have caused us problems due to 'being in your face' and I believe Bolton will see that's best way to grind out a result.

We may need some street fighters in the middle of the park to protect our ball players.

It won't hurt, certainly if the reports from yesterday are anything to go by. A few cheeky tackles and 'professionalism' won't go a miss against the likes of Scunny or Bolton.
