He hasn't got much of a mention with most of the plaudits going to our outstanding CM and EEL on the day, but I though Jake Wright was excellent.

Time after time on Saturday he was in the right place, my Vale supporting Bro in law commented on it. I think he's been just as important to us as EEL in our turnaround.

He's not the quickest or biggest and maybe playing a division above his comfort zone, but he reads the game like nobody else in our squad, talks non-stop and as long as he's got a bit of pace and power alongside him, I think he'll continue to do an outstanding job for us.

He's mentioned quite a lot across other threads, with almost unanimous admiration and approval.

One more won't hurt, though... :)

Addendum: I got there before Foxy but he's changed the order of posts......
:)

he'll never score for us given that he never leaves our half even for corners but he does an equally important job of making sure we still have a defender back in our half in case of an opposition counter attack

GrayBlade's 'Vale supporting brother in law' mention number 756....

Hey ferk orf Her Bert, I'm saying it because it was said.

He'll not be mentioned again until April, by which time my guess is that you'll have managed to conjure up another 2-3k variations on the same theme on here and I'll have added a few hundred. You forget that I've been with you every step of the way buddy SOOooo BEHAVE!. ;)

This is the biggest turnaround from last season I think.

We now have a goalkeeper who communicates with his defence.

We now have a defender with genuine leadership qualities, and that is just as important as being a good defender in my view.

Also, due to the actual captain being right up front, it's important to have somebody at the back who can marshall those around him.
Going off on a tangent here, but as much as I love Billy Sharp and would defend him to the hilt, I'm of the opinion that a striker can never be an effective captain, his focus should always be on getting the goals, without the distraction of having to be a leader of men on the pitch as well. Jake Wright is more naturally suited to that particular role as far as I'm concerned.

Yup I agree 100% I've been there mate and understand, but problem is Foxy it's so easy to miss these threads when there are so many new posts.

I very rarely start new threads (unlike Herbert ;) ) as I'm naturally a shy and retiring type, but I suppose duplications will happen mainly when we've played well and more posters want to have their say, do I suppose it's all good :)

Worst apology ever. :)

I was more just a friendly nod in the direction of people agreeing with you :)

Agree completely with the OP and just to add one thing I noticed during the match, which stood out again upon watching the game on BladesPlayer. When Moore made that cracking save in the 2nd half, whilst he was still on the floor Wright got over him in a protective posture, both hands on top of him and said something to him, I suspect to congratulate the save and assure him that all was good. Immediately he stood up, patted O'Connel on the back for the tackle and then pretty much bollocked the rest of the team for allowing Vale to cut us open. That 2 minutes showed why he has captained teams in the past for so long.
He also has a habit of stalking around referees during times of incident, making his presence known and sticking up for his lads. He's the f*****g man imo and could be the most astute business Wilder did this summer.
