If Brum had had Henderson in goal, and we'd had Camp, that would have been one point less for us last night...Not bad save , a little theatrical perhaps but kept us in it, that Jota is class.View attachment 51858
Don't think so. Diving to the top left corner, the right shoulder and arm are nearest to the ball, and the angle of the right arm makes it easier to push the ball away.He should've led with his left arm

He should've led with his left arm
Yeah, should've caught it too. It's the modern way, Swiss.

Hmmmmm. Never thought about it like that. ThanksDon't think so. Diving to the top left corner, the right shoulder and arm are nearest to the ball, and the angle of the right arm makes it easier to push the ball away.
His left arm would have naturally pushed it back into the danger zone.
I don't know whether you have now dropped the irony. The save last night was just under the bar. Even the top pic of the 3 you have just posted is lower. In the top corner you have a better chance of saving it with 'wrong' arm. Though in my entire career, I don't think I ever saved one in the top corner with either arm...It was an entirely tongue in cheek comment, without an emoji.
However, your comment doesn't make any sense from a bio mechanical perspective. If he were diving to his right, he'd lead with his right. Its the natural way for him. see photos below
The way he has approached it has stretched and rotated his body risks injury when he lands as the momentum of his body rotating could mean that when he plants his foot the knee will be under additional stress

Nicely put. Though there is so much irony on-line that I don't get, that I am still wondering about it being a 'rule of thumb'.As a general rule of thumb diving under the horizontal position you go with your lower arm, & above the horizontal with your upper arm. Of course there are occasions when this doesn't happen but it is a starting point when learning from scratch.
I really cannot believe that here and other media/forums anyone is questioning the mechanics of this save, go out and get drunk or laid or both, and then just enjoy what is a quite fantastic save.
If this had been Scott Carson or casillas at Leeds or even that crap keeper at old Trafford , it would without doubt be lauded as a worldy, Henderson pulls it of vs Jota, and people are saying could have done better or different.
I said tongue in cheek "not a bad save" but seeing it again today, I am amazed this guy isn't in a premier league side, well not till after may 5th.
UTB.
I apologise, i was on a complete wind up as i knew some would biteI don't know whether you have now dropped the irony. The save last night was just under the bar. Absolutely no need to apologise. Spotting irony has never been my strong point. But I do love watching/talking about goalkeeping.I apologise, i was on a complete wind up as i knew some would bite
The main things are
1. that he stops the ball going in, then
2. stops it staying live in a dangerous area, then
3. is able to recover quickly in case it comes back
How he does that is largely irrelevant when he has made the save.
If he'd put the ball into the top corner with his 'wrong hand' or he failed to get near it then i'd question his choice
One thing is certain, he's dominant with his right hand...
Great save. This isn't one of these times but side point; I don't mind shots you have to stretch for but I hate when keepers do dramatic dives for shots that could easily be caught or stopped just as well by a simple jump. It often happens when a keeper is tipping a ball over the bar. You don't get any more height from a theatrical dive upwards than you do from a standing jump upwards, in fact you're likely to get less. Of course, the only reason they do it is because it looks good I suppose.

My post agrees with yours, I'm saying you get a better connection when jumping up compared to standing, that's obvious. Just that there's often no need for the theatrics that go with it.It's not so much about height, try tipping a ball over the bar stood on two feet, then try tipping over a ball whilst jumping up. See which one gives you a stronger connection with the ball. The reason it then looks a bit like a 'dramatic dive' is that quite often to tip it over the bar you're jumping a little bit backwards so can't land on your feet.
There's a lot about Internet etiquette that I don't get, as I am not a 'digital native' as the phrase goes. I have posted twice in this thread already apologising for missing the irony, and openly admitting to not being good at picking up on-line irony. So what is the point of your post? Are there further rules of netiquette that I still have to learn? Do I have to be taken outside and flogged before I can post again? And as it happens, the discussion about which hand the keeper should go with has been interesting. That's probably ironical.Whoosh?
