Not bad save , a little theatrical perhaps but kept us in it, that Jota is class.View attachment 51858
If Brum had had Henderson in goal, and we'd had Camp, that would have been one point less for us last night...
Great pic. The end of the dive was theatrical, but there was no other way to get up there.

That’s a hell of a save. First time I’ve seen as it as I was at work. Had to listen to man ure v Barca.
Some of the locals still don’t know that there’s football beyond the mega rich top 6 premiership clubs!!!!.
A Liverpool supporting customer still thought we were a league 1 side.
You can’t educate scousers. UTB ⚔️

Not a bad save really it was a brilliant save. The ball was heading for the top corner hit with power most keeper don't get to that ball. A class save and a class keeper. His clean sheet record reads in his favour as well. Think as good as we have been this season deano has took us that little step up as Egan has and give us that quality now to grind results if and when we need to which was what lost it us last season.

Don't think so. Diving to the top left corner, the right shoulder and arm are nearest to the ball, and the angle of the right arm makes it easier to push the ball away.

It was an entirely tongue in cheek comment, without an emoji.

However, your comment doesn't make any sense from a bio mechanical perspective. If he were diving to his right, he'd lead with his right. Its the natural way for him. see photos below

The way he has approached it has stretched and rotated his body risks injury when he lands as the momentum of his body rotating could mean that when he plants his foot the knee will be under additional stress

That save was at the far end from us. It looked for all the world that it was heading for the top corner. Awesome save it was.

I noticed last night that Hendo applied some spray to his gloves- I'm assuming it was some adhesive for better gripping. Must do it all the time but I've just not noticed it before!

The 'top hand save' is probably more effective at covering greater heights, the 'bottom hand save' is possibly more effective at covering a greater area of the goal.

Pros & Cons of Hand used for top corner saves:

Top/Opp. Hand Pros –
– Greater range/height
– More momentum
– Ability to go ‘through’ the ball (physically stronger save)
– Bottom hand available to help break fall
– Easier to drive opposite hand/knee at same time

Top/Opp. Hand Cons –
– Slower to perform
– Top Hand starts further away

Bottom/Same Side Hand Pros –
– Shorter distance to drive hand
– Quicker ‘reaction’ save (great for snap-shots or shots seen late/deflected)
– Can suit more agile/explosive GK’s

Bottom/Same Side Hand Cons –
– Hard to break fall when landing
– Hard to generate momentum in addition to step and hand drive

I don't know whether you have now dropped the irony. The save last night was just under the bar. Even the top pic of the 3 you have just posted is lower. In the top corner you have a better chance of saving it with 'wrong' arm. Though in my entire career, I don't think I ever saved one in the top corner with either arm...

As a general rule of thumb diving under the horizontal position you go with your lower arm, & above the horizontal with your upper arm. Of course there are occasions when this doesn't happen but it is a starting point when learning from scratch.

I really cannot believe that here and other media/forums anyone is questioning the mechanics of this save, go out and get drunk or laid or both, and then just enjoy what is a quite fantastic save.
If this had been Scott Carson or casillas at Leeds or even that crap keeper at old Trafford , it would without doubt be lauded as a worldy, Henderson pulls it of vs Jota, and people are saying could have done better or different.
I said tongue in cheek "not a bad save" but seeing it again today, I am amazed this guy isn't in a premier league side, well not till after may 5th.

Nicely put. Though there is so much irony on-line that I don't get, that I am still wondering about it being a 'rule of thumb'.;)

Agreed apart from the part of jota as it was Adam's shot. But other than that spot on.

I apologise, i was on a complete wind up as i knew some would bite

The main things are
1. that he stops the ball going in, then
2. stops it staying live in a dangerous area, then
3. is able to recover quickly in case it comes back

How he does that is largely irrelevant when he has made the save.

If he'd put the ball into the top corner with his 'wrong hand' or he failed to get near it then i'd question his choice

One thing is certain, he's dominant with his right hand...

Great save. This isn't one of these times but side point; I don't mind shots you have to stretch for but I hate when keepers do dramatic dives for shots that could easily be caught or stopped just as well by a simple jump. It often happens when a keeper is tipping a ball over the bar. You don't get any more height from a theatrical dive upwards than you do from a standing jump upwards, in fact you're likely to get less. Of course, the only reason they do it is because it looks good I suppose.

I heard a professional goalkeeping coach being interviewed on the radio a couple of years ago and I remember him saying (when asked) that it really annoyed him hearing the amount of shit people talk about keepers when they criticise ‘mistakes’. It’s a specialist position and if you’ve never played there, most of your knowledge is based on what you’ve heard from pundits, who are often outfield players who know little about keeping.

Absolutely no need to apologise. Spotting irony has never been my strong point. But I do love watching/talking about goalkeeping.

It's not so much about height, try tipping a ball over the bar stood on two feet, then try tipping over a ball whilst jumping up. See which one gives you a stronger connection with the ball. The reason it then looks a bit like a 'dramatic dive' is that quite often to tip it over the bar you're jumping a little bit backwards so can't land on your feet.

I don't think it was that dramatic he had to react quick and get to it and he did this by producing said save. He got to the ball made a very good save and tipped it out of play not into any zone where a Birmingham player could be lurking he definitely didn't produce that save just because he thought I can look good here. The ball was travelling at speed and heading straight into the top corner there was very very little chance he would have been able to catch that no matter what he did. I'd be auprosed to see any keeper catch that ball from where Henderson was the kid is prem quality and he will show that next year if that's with us or not. If it isnt I have a feeling we could be looking back on it saying what a great player we had on our books even if it was just for a season I can see him making it to a top level in a few years he is still very young for a keeper and has stuff to learn but he is a brilliant shot stopper already.

My post agrees with yours, I'm saying you get a better connection when jumping up compared to standing, that's obvious. Just that there's often no need for the theatrics that go with it.

There's a lot about Internet etiquette that I don't get, as I am not a 'digital native' as the phrase goes. I have posted twice in this thread already apologising for missing the irony, and openly admitting to not being good at picking up on-line irony. So what is the point of your post? Are there further rules of netiquette that I still have to learn? Do I have to be taken outside and flogged before I can post again? And as it happens, the discussion about which hand the keeper should go with has been interesting. That's probably ironical.;)
