Ollie Watkins

Che Adams at £13m last season was an absolute steal. Similar goals total but had to do most of it himself in a poor Birmingham side - pace, power, finishing - of the attributes needed to be a Prem player. In my opinion, a much better option than Watkins who seemingly is double the price.

Broomhall ,
Your list includes Zivkovic who's loan has finished.
And it excludes Didsy & Calum.
Are you expecting Calum to leave ?
If so we've got 4 strikers.
Who knows whether Moose will return or what state he'll be in if he does.
I reckon CW could be looking at 2 out + 4 in.
At the very least we need 2 in.
I wonder if CW is currently on a well-earned holiday + it will all get cracking when he returns , possibly on Monday ?[/QUOTE]

I agree but Soton wages ?

Has the interest in Zivkovic been officially ended ? I have not seen it if it has, I wouldn't be totally shocked if it was announced we had signed him.
I did mention Robinson saying I would prefer to go with him over Zivkovic.

What, so shots from much closer to goal had a higher percentage success rate than those from further out? Well blow me down. This discussion started with the statement that shooting from distance was stupid. I disagreed. It was then claimed that it came from within the club but we think it was Wilder but he might not have said it. I was never advocating shooting from distance on every occasion but to call shooting from distance stupid is frankly ridiculous. If you dont shoot you dont score as the old adage goes. Watch highlights every week, many goals are scored from outside the box. IMO it's an area in which we need to improve.
And not all shots from distance are equal. The keeper has longer to set himself up for a shot from distance so you are very unlikely to score unless the shot has a very high velocity (eg from a volley) or the keeper is unsighted, or the keeper is a long way out and you can chip him. If you are running with the ball and you just decide to have a shot because you have run out of ideas, THAT is stupid. And the crowd going 'Ooh' when you sky it or the goalie makes an easy catch, that is stupid too.

Ok

To be honest, with his pace (or supposed pace), I expected Zivkovic to be brought on when we were defending a lead, or trailing, and have him stood on the halfway line when we were defending a penalty, so we could break, boot the ball up field and have him leave his markers for dust, for a one on one with the keeper.

If my memory serves, we did this in our promotion season, when Madine was sent off and we ended up playing for 50+ minutes with 10 men, at home to Brentford.

We were under the cosh and defended like heroes, wave after wave of Brentford attacks on our box. CW/AK decide that, rather than send another defender on, they sent Didsy on (correct me here if I am wrong lads), and we broke from that same scenario; defending a corner, break away, counter attack, and we scored a second.

If it wasn't like that, then that is how my memory wants to think it played out!

I'm agreeing with you that we need new strikers , possibly on loan if we can't afford big fees.
Zivcovic was hardly given any minutes so I reckon CW had lost interest before his loan expired.
You say you'd prefer Calum but CW loaned him out so my guess is he's up for sale or further loan-out.
I'm with you on the unpredictability of Moose + see him as a total gamble. With a new baby in France , he may be looking for a move south.
The only strikers we can actually rely on are Billy , Didsy & McB.
One of those is getting on , one is really a link-man + the third is learning his trade in the PL.
The way I see it , we must be looking at a minimum of 2 new faces in the striking dept.

Current odds:
Blue = Odds Shortening
Red = Odds getting longerScreenshot_20200807-193123_Chrome.jpg

£16m and he scored 3 goals? That’s not a steal in my book!

Copthorne's shut down ain't it ?
He says he was checking underneath the cladding around our stadium to compare rust levels or summat, I don't know he bores me to tears so I wasn't really listening. Anyway, he was dying for an orangina and was told he could grab something from the bar when he saw this secret meeting taking place.

I thought it was legit until he mentioned orangina. No-one stocks that anymore, surely?

I'm sure I've seen that picture of wilder meeting a new player in the copthorne last season, and the season before that

Our best games are when we retain possession and score passing goals. With the odd occasion when Zivkovic and Moose were up front together they seemed to have the making of a decent partnership. Each were on the others wavelength. Moose maybe with Lunny but none of the others have it.
It maybe to do with the French/Dutch juniors they came through.
In the absence of such a partnership, one up top or false 9 maybe the way to go. So no more Watkins and more box2box midfielders with Didsy/ Moose on their own?

Interesting discussion about long shots or not.
Only my opinion but I’ve always thought that creating high quality chances was only part of it.
Shoot from distance and who knows where the ball is going?
In the net? Very small percentage.
In the kop......okay.
Ricochet and leaving you exposed to a quick counter? Bit too often in PL for my tastes.
So. Don’t shoot from long range. Try to create a high class opportunity and if you lose the ball there’s a good chance it will be down in the corner or close to goal and there will be more chance a panic clearances will give it you back or create another opportunity.
Less likely to give them a fast break.
As I said, just my opinion.
