Ollie Watkins

"Clear statement of intent" from Villa. Intent for what? Paying massively over the odds for a decent-but-unproven centre forward?

Brentford have replaced Watkins with Toney and pocketed £22m in the process (less c20% sell-on to Exeter - about £5m). There's no two ways about it, that's outstanding business.

EDIT: if - and it's a big if - we manage to sign Brewster for less than Villa pay for Watkins... 😂 😂 😂 😂
I`m happy for Exeter City to receive over £5m from the deal. This redistribution of money will probably benefit other clubs lower in the League pyramid as Exeter re-invest some of it.

Seems a massive fee for a Championship player, but if he bangs in 20 goals next season he'll be worth every penny.

Can't see him getting scoring more than 10 at the very most, but we'll see.

I really hope they go down. I don't know why, but I've never liked them and in recent years, their approach of spending like its going out of fashion, doesn't sit right with me.

You're not alone lol... Astraboy will gladly say his feelings on it as well..

Living down here surrounded by plenty of Villa fans wanking themselves silly over these big money transfers is fun being around...I just casually put on a friendly 'oh nice to see Villa making these big signings!' whilst inside im laughing my socks off at their approach to just chucking wads of money and wages on random shite hoping that some of it sticks to the wall! 😂😂

How are you feeling now, Bruce?

United: £20m (possibly rising to £30m) spent on Ramsdale, Foderingham, Bogle, Lowe and Ampadu (loan)

Villa: £42m (rising to £49m) spent on Watkins and Cash.

Fine thanks

£30 millionnnn Christ on a bike he’s not even that young I thought he was 21/22 he’s 25 in December

Hopefully this means Brewster won’t be signing for Villa 😃😃😃

At £28m rising to £33m I am inclined to think we have dodged a bullet......crack on Villa, obviously not learned from last season.

It's Villa innit. Don't know the details, but those numbers are what we were looking for. So no reason to think its inaccurate.
If Tarkovski goes to West Ham for the reported amounts, don't Brentford get 7m?

Not a bad September really - 40m in deals.
Still can get 25m or more for Benrahma!

Ridiculous fee for a 24 year old from the Championship with one decent season scoring, although he previously was on the wing. He may prove to be a great signing but seems a lot to me and a big gamble again by Villa

Before we inflate @Banana’s ego too high, I actually think it was Les who is the ITK.

Enjoy the playoffs though lads and hopefully you’ll be allowed to sit in pairs when you’re allowed in the new stadium so you can all relentlessly pat each other on the back again.

Villa have been a basket case for 6 seasons now and counting. Even if we had the money, I don’t think CWAK would be as stupid as Smith.

Any wonder that it's rumoured that Smith may soon be looking for another job? Just like last season, and all that cash splashed just to avoid relegation.

Just makes me think what Wilder would do if he had the same resources at his disposal?
It’s the desperate actions of a concerned manager. Smith knows that despite spending heavily last season he failed to get them to perform and they came close to being relegated. He’s willing to pay any price to avoid a repeat of that. The problem is, if you always do what you’ve always done then you’re likely to end up in the same situation again.

Smith is my prediction to be the first Prem manager to be sacked this season.

Fair play to Brentford they really get top dollar for their assets. That said maybe getting promoted wouldn’t harm the cash flow too?! ;)

That said Ivan Toney is no Ollie Watkins. Great financial business but weakens their chances of a promotion push.

£33m to Villa apparently.

Done deal. Several bids. None from SU24 though.

Time to update the avatar. Maybe to Benramah?

Say what? Try Egan or JOC. They are the best 2 players to come out of Brentford.

Brentford have done some fantastic business and the model works as a business but unless they get success on the pitch it's all a bit of a waste of time.

Success is not nearly going up. Maybe one of these days they'll get up and stop selling players but for now all the money in the world is great bit as I fan I'd want glory/magical moments.

Like with Bournemouth the lack of fans and club size will always hold them back. The new ground looks appalling in its design and one of the worst I have seen of new grounds. Also the capacity is still really small. Not sure how they grow to more fans. Even clubs like Fulham and QPR have bigger fanbases.

All a bit ironic despite some fantastic deals that they sold us Egan and O'Connell for less than 5 mill combined and we could probably get 30 mill a piece for them both now maybe more.

As others have said all the back slapping on a great business model only washes for so long. Ultimately Football for fans is about winning not just about about balancing books. Granted sometimes the latter can help the former of course.
