Player Suggestion Ollie Watkins

Those of you who wanted Watkins more than Robinson - and it was a majority I believe - go and sit on a step and think about what you've done.

Really? I've liked Watkins for a couple of years. Cost Brentford £1m from Exeter, and now proving he can do it without Maupay. But - as we're seeing - no guarantee that doing it in the Championship means he'd do the same in the PL.

If this is true. It could signal a slight change in formation maybe (3-4-3)

Looks like I was wrong - without wanting to write Robinson off. I seemed to make the mistake of thinking he could run.

If we're back in for Watkins - and that now looks extremely likely - it is also an admission from Wilder that Robinson hasn't been up to it, possibly McBurnie too.

£15m though..... wow. Could have had him for less than that in the summer. But his performances at CF have arguably added to his value. It's certainly added to his appeal to us, given the way we're now setting up with just a front 2.

I'm not sure whether or not we could afford Mitrovic, but he'd be a brilliant focal point if we intend on continuing with a more direct style of playing.

Would absolutely love Mitrovic but I don't think that one's possible. Fulham will expect to come back up. If they don't though it will be hilarious. Then he will be sold.

It's not quite clicking up front regardless of which combination plays. McGoldrick links play and holds the ball up but can't finish to save his life, McBurnie looks slow, Robinson appears happier out wide, Sharp and Mousset look lively when they get on but are struggling to force their way into the team.
However, the problem may in fact lie with the formation. Playing Norwood, Fleck and Lundstram together gives a more solid look but it reduces the creativity massively and isolates the front two. I feel sorry for Freeman at the moment - he's done well whenever he's played and would both improve the creativity and provide a link to the front two but CW seems insistent on protecting the back three at the moment.

I've thought about it alot and Robinson is ass!

Personally, I can't wait to repeatedly hear about the success of the Bees' business model and just how it manages to lift them to the lofty heights of 17th in the Champ.

On a related note, it looks as though Maupay is finding his feet in the Prem. I'm not sure he would have been a great fit with how CW is setting up the side though with the flat three in midfield. It might sound daft but Madine may well have been a decent option for that - he was certainly able to hold the ball up better than any of the current strikers.

Would Watkins improve Utd? Possibly so - he'd certainly be able to link play in the way McGoldrick does and I'm sure would score more (not difficult!).

If Clark goes in the window and I think he will ! dont be surprised if we bring in Madine on loan .He would cause centre backs a different problem . Just as Wood does at Burnley .Clark is the joker in the pack when he goes Madine is worth a punt.

Clark is a proper prankster. Fed up of hearing about his dressing rooms japes.

Had a £12m release clause that expired at the end of last season. Signed a 4 year contract a few weeks back which will make him very well paid. It will take some serious cash to get him unless he has another release clause but that will be much higher than £12m. More a wide forward than centre but we have played him CF this season, with very mixed results. He's nowhere near as good as Maupay but has his moments. Roy Hodgson went to the Stoke game to watch him (poor bloke)

How's the Prem - as good as 17th in the Champ you think?

I'm not staying btw - just thought it would be useful info ......

Preferred him to Mc B and Maupay but I know nothing about football so I shut up. Bit like I did with Kemar Roofe & Abraham. Sometimes you can see that there is a footballer in a position that is not normal. Sometimes you are completely wrong like I was with Madine who had more understanding of linking than McBurnie will ever have. Ollie Watkins, IMHO would make a quality signing. He can take Robinson's spot or move to a forward with Sharp.

Thanks for the info. While it might end up being a shame we didn't make the most of the £12m release clause, the reality is that we wouldn't baulk at an increased (say £15-17m ish) transfer fee and we'd pay him more money than his new contract gives him. And we'd offer him Premier League football too.

I think if we signed him we'd want him as a number 10 / forward. We need an alternative to Didsy. Robinson ain't cutting it at the moment. It's too soon to give up on him, but if we're still in the same boat in January when the window opens, Wilder would be wise to look into some options and I'm certain Watkins would be one.

Some useful info for Brentford:

You need to stop fucking about, sack your manager and actually try to get promoted with the best squad you've had.
They’re building a new stadium. Once they hit delays and the associated costs they’ll be flogging off more players.
