I imagine they've got a good scouting system and one which actively looks abroad for players. They picked up Maupay and Benrahma whilst they were plying their trade in the French second division for example. They got them for peanuts - and they'll sell them for millions within a very short period of time.

I don't think it's much to do with other clubs being "lazy". I'm sure all professional league clubs are working hard to keep a flow of good new players coming into their clubs - it is, after all, the life-line for all but a very few elite clubs who can just go out and buy anyone they fancy. However, not all clubs have good scouting networks, internationally.

Put simply, all clubs are looking, but some don't know where to look. That's the difference.

I was thinking Watkins was a "striker" - obviously not then.

The problem is, terminology has become "confused" thesedays. At one time, a "Striker" was a centre-forward, or inside forward. They wore a number 8, 9 or 10. The other attacking players, were the wide players, called "wingers". They wore a 7 if on the right wing, or an 11 if on the left wing. It was so much easier then!

I'd interpreted that you are talking about us possibly not needing to sign "a striker" because we've now signed Freeman, I think by "Striker" you are talking about a centre-forward or inside forward type player. And I think we still do need to sign these type of players - preferably a big man who can win the ball in the air and a smaller, faster player, who can play off him. It doesn't mean we have to change our style of play, but it does give us options to do so.
 
I reckon it will be Watkins (and a good signing he would be too, as CWAK have rated this lad for a long time (remember their comments about him being the best young player in league 1 when we signed Lundy from Oxford, but we couldnt afford Watkins at that time).

Mind, i would prefer Maupay. He could be an exceptional talent, and we should be going all out for him and McBurnie. They are both young goalscorers and the way the market is going, once they have PL experience, they will both be worth a fortune. If we dont get them soon, we will be priced out. We should absolutely nail these two (Watkins can be a bonus it it happens).

As spot-on as a spot-on a Dalmatian. They would pay for themselves within a season. Another £100m at least.

We do currently need strikers more than midfielders, I agree.

But Sawyers is a better player than either Maupay or Watkins IMO.
 
Hopefully, it's the chance to have a programme delivered for every home game. I know I would gladly pay over the odds for such a luxury

I reckon he’d replace Fleck (and Im a big Fleck fan). Ideally he’d ramp up the competition and all would raise their game. But yeah, Mapay and/or Watkins would be starters and I certainly wont be complaining if we get either.

Sawyers, on his day, is a very very talented player. I’d love us to go in for him. We need some more physicality / athleticism in the middle of the park. Still fear we’ll be overrun with Norwood on his own in there.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm in no way saying that Sawyers iSN'T class - I'd take him in a heartbeat. But with our squad the way it is, we must priortise centre forwards (IMO).
 
Just played one of those skills, goals and assists videos on youtube for Maupay and number 11 (Watkins) is involved in nearly every scene. Would be ideal but isn't this already covered by Freeman.

Morrison is a potential to apply pressure to the CM but I'd expect us to look for a strong option in CM like a Fer, or perhaps Sawyers

I'd agree we need some steel for midfield, but suspect that this bloke Chris Jagelka might be that man ;)

The number of players that gets exported from there seems very high.

Not to mention it's one of the first ports of call for African players, assimilating into Europe.

Ah yes, I recall we did this last time round when we picked up a player from French 2nd division team Troyes.

I wanted Watkins badly. I think the kids has loads of talent and would flourish under CWAK. Too bad we can trade LM for him.
