Interesting perspective. You are more knowledgeable about him than us obviously. I noticed his ability to be in the right place at the right time hence the comparison with Sharp. Billy has good strength too to hold players off. It would be good to see him in the red and white stripes next season. I think we can both agree on that?

Good luck to Brentford btw for the coming season. Played good football the right way.

Think it was Leeds game where he destroyed them, some player. cant see us getting Maupay sadly.

Not that its relevant but just looks and Watkins is older than Maupay which surprised me

I always had him down as a bit of an attacking winger type

Only made 18 appearances last season scoring 7 times (was he injured?)

Watkins? I dont really know much about him. but I do remember seeing Maupay and being massively impressed.
 
Watkins managed 10 goals last season but he was in and out mainly because of a lingering and chronic toe injury. He has the ability to drop his shoulder and go outside a defender and shoot with either foot. He is strong and quick but often seems to drift through gams but 20 goals in his first two Championship seasons when predominantly playing wide is pretty damn impressive.

If we had to lose one of our strikers I would be happiest if Ollie went. Maupay os exceptional and Benrahma will be world class if he continues to develop as he did last season. Sergio Canos is also a massive talent when he wants to be.

He is. We need two new STRIKERS and very good ones at that. In fact I know their names.

I don't know how Brentford managed to beat other clubs to both Maupay and Benrahma.

It's a good reflection on their scouting but perhaps an even worse reflection on the lazy recruitment of other clubs.

Someone text me to tell me about Jags before it was announced I asked if he was the “significant signing” or was it Maupay and he just said bigger spenders are interested in Maupay now.

As someone who has seen Maupay play about 70 times I can honestly say he is pretty unique in his style and I really don't see too much in common with Billy Sharp. He is small, about 5' 7'' but plays as if he is over 6 feet tall as he bullies centre halves with his tenacity and upper body strength. He won't win you a header except occasionally in the area and he is always on the move - his energy levels are fantastic. The weakest part of his game is his finishing as if he had been anwhere near clinical he'd have scored nearer 50 goals than the 28 he managed last season. He is the best all-round striker i have seen play for Brentford since I started watching them far too long ago.

God knows if he is staying or going but he is far too good for the Championship

Maupay and Watkins are two very different type of players. For one, Watkins isn't a striker, Maupay is. We need another striker. Maupay gets my vote. Better player.

By ' STRIKERS ' , I do hope you're referring to the type of players who have a propensity for putting the ball in the back of the net on regular occasions , rather than those who are ' good at running the channels ' , 'bringing others into play ' , 'creating problems for defenders ' blah blah blah blah .... etc .

I've seen quite enough of them in my time watching the Blades , thanks very much .

I take your point, but those are the exact same criticisms people leveled at McGoldrick before it became apparent to everyone how important he was to us. In a two-striker system like ours you don’t necessarily want two poachers.

I agree and I for one , was very pleased when we signed McG . and he more than justified his role in the goal scoring department .

The art of putting the ball in the back of the net comes in many different forms and is not just restricted to poachers .
I go back to the days of Tommy Lawton and Nat Lofthouse and whilst they both had all the attributes I described above , they also scored a shit load of goals and that for me has to be the main attribute for someone whose job description is that of being a striker .

The ghost of Chris Guthrie and his like still haunts me and my post was a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that I was hoping that Pinchy had realised that his love affair with Madine was just a holiday romance .
