So who should we sign ?

That's Wilder job, isn't it?

A good example of 'how to do it' can surely be taken from Brentford. No matter what any of us feel about this Maupay saga, they have played their cards close to their chest, so well done them. They may currently be a selling club, but they also appear to have grasped the rules of fiscal literacy, something that many clubs dispense with, more fool them.

The potential for imagining 'what ifs' or 'maybes' never fails to amaze. Yes, I get how a player's value may increase, but if we have to sell then other club's instincts will recognise this, and the subsequent re-sale value may drop like a lead weight.

I hope your optimist is rewarded, where I differ is that I'm applying a sense of reality rather than conjuring up scenarios that may, or may not, happen.
But in your scenarios to date, the sale value of the player is relatively unimportant.
By next year (worst case) it will be the salary that's critical - not the price we've paid, which is covered by PL money.
The important thing will be to reduce the wage bill and if a player is sold, there's a saving :)

Every revenue stream matters, what I support is an adherence to sound financial planning, not a reliance on one component. There are times, like now, when we can spend in the knowledge that our backsides are covered as we'll receive the Prem money that allows us to act this way. Wilder is being very cute with his budget, something I'm sure we're all happy about.

Your point about wages relates to my earlier point - see #1066 - where I touched upon the fact that contracts need to be watertight, so downgrades in wages should relegation happen etc. This needs constant scrutiny if we're to maintain a semblance of financial security.

Where running a football club not the economy just need to sign young hungry players who can kick on.

The most valuable asset to any club is the players.

Hes probs the most valuable to us

God knows why managers arent worth more than players when they are way more important to a club

My view entirely. Wilder is at the centre of everything good at United. Any club depends on it's first team to do well, and under Wilder we've made such stupendous strides that it's becoming difficult to imagine the slog of playing in Division 1.

Agreed ive slagged the board of more than most but they deserve credit for spending what looks like 50 million

If wilder can perform miracles with 0 what can he do with 50 million

Call me a cynic/pessimist or whatever seems appropriate, but I wish it were that simple. Some people seem to flourish under adversity, while others know how to splash the cash. But forgive my moment of low expectation, of course I believe that Wilder will use his 'barrow-boy' experience to grind out whatever deals we enter into. I can't wait for the season to start, then and only then will we begin to get an idea of how well we might do this season.

Not really. We know he wants one of them. Just nothing to report presumably.

Can’t we just write them off now and start arguing with each other? It’s far too happy on here of late.

Don't be silly.....I imagine it's how East Germany must have felt once the wall came down and reunification happened, enjoy it while you can. Could be worse, could be Wednesday!

Good point.

I’ll wait until we’ve lost 2 games before it kicks off then. ;)

I'd venture we'd lose more than two games, and possibly in succession, but should hysteria descend you can bet that a finger is pointed at Wilder. We may be up against it this time round, but if we survive and retain our Prem status then Wilder will have achieved a minor miracle.

All aboard the McBurnie 🚂

If he doesn't come the Brentford squatters can fight over my season ticket.

Wrong.

The most valuable asset to any business is cash.

Without it the business will collapse.

Applies equally to all businesses.

I wish I had a tenner for every business owner that's told me over the years that I "don't understand" their business when their real problem was that I understood it better than they did.

Cheers bill gates and what are those players worth ? Would that be cash

There assets and the most valuable assets any football team has

Yes they do pay the bills David brooks did just like Che Adams did before that
Ask Bolton fans how it feels to have lots of players and no cash

You're typical of the people I was referring to.

You can only sell players in two windows a year, and only then if they're fit, and even then you can only get what people are prepared to pay knowing you're desperate to sell.
