Fjortoft was sold as Spackman was convinced that as a team we scored more goals when he did not play and as a team we functioned better, his agent was told to find him a club and if they were prepared to pay the asking price he could go.
Deane was fed up with being kicked all over the park and one night match at the Lane was the straw that broke the camels back. He had a clause in his contract that he could be sold if someone paid the relevant fee and Benfica did. He would possibly have turned this down but he was not enjoying his football.

Unfortunately they were sold on the same day, this was never properly explained and the striker that we had lined up to replace them (Hamilton Rikard) was not pursued after the chairman and his wife were abused and spat on.

How do I know, I just do.

Either way that is in the past and CW has given us a fantastic three years, if the ownership battle gets sorted and as expected CW is given full support, we will have a wonderful future.

Spackman had absolutely nothing to do with the sales of Deane and Fjortoft. Just as he had nothing to do with incoming transfers. Charles Green was in charge.

Charles Green was responsible for the executive decisions and indeed some team and player recruitment decisions, which was primarily due to the fact that he was a v strong personality who loved control, but one thing he and Spackman did agree on was the value to the Team of fjortoft.

Love that shirt. I was just thinking I wish I had one when I remembered I had. It’s pretty knackered now but I’ve just put it on and run around in the JAF pose. I really should grow up.

Heroic! I never bought that shirt (gutted) but bought the one before which was the worst kit we've ever had - the diamond one! What was I thinking!

I see McBurnie got another 75mins today at least he will be match fit if it's still on.

Interesting article on our future Bearded Warrior....

Even if we were to only sign one forward this window (and we need 2 quality forwards), he really is the one we need. He would complement our team and existing forwards superbly.

Let's get this lad in, and then see what drops re the others. Come on Utd, you wont lose money on this lad and it would go a huge way to giving us a chance of surviving next season. Bite the bullet and get it done.

Good read, the kind of player we need. No wonder their not willing to part with him. Lets hope we get this one done. This guy looks like he can deliver the goals to keep us in the Premiership. Go on Swansea, relent, let us have him.....

Disagree, the problem is he could struggle in the PL, like many Championship strikers who make the step up.
If we were relegated then the only bidders next season would be from Championship clubs
I think the most we’d get from a Champio shop club is 10 million.

If you think his value will only go up, then what do you think is a fair price? 20 million or what about even 25 Milton?
I think he and Maupay are still risks, so that should keep the price down, I really believe 15 million is more than generous.

Put it this way, if McBurnie has an average season this year and Swansea are only mid table.
Then they will be under pressure to cash in. His value might well be 10-12 million in the January window.

As we know strikers cost serious money and are in demand, and any club would try to squeeze every pound out of a club wanting him, I don't blame them. McBurnie scores goals but also brings a lot more to the team which probably what Wilder likes. He's more likely to have a very good season and his fee will beyond us, it's a gamble as with most transfers.

Or it might be.......this is a circular disagreement, one where risk is at it's heart. So do we extend our offer, or do we adopt a position of saying, "Enough's enough"?

Given that we all hope that the Blades are still a Prem team come this time next year, doing this on the cheap might the thing that trips us up. My own take is that the thing that's preventing movement is wages. For the aforementioned players like McB or Maups, I'd expect them, or their agents, to want quite a bit more than they're currently getting, and who can blame them, especially as we're prepared to pay such a large fee (unheard of for us???) for an untried player at this level.

Not me, Football clubs, who won’t employ him. Not one of them. Nowt fancy. Walking your dog is about his level. Just don’t ask him to train it.

Making more money, and with far more security, than he would do in coaching.

Good for Owd Nowt-Fancy. Not too difficult to make more than nothing though, given football has decided he is such an appalling coach as to be unemployable.

I know your views on his coaching ability and I don’t disagree. But I think if you met him you would like him very much, and he’s far more erudite than his appearance and reputation as a player would suggest. A decent person and I wish him only the best.

Me too. I hear he’s now something in the leech industry?

Mcburnie would be ideal for us. We do play very attacking football but our football is effective more so. Brentford play total football and Maupay thrives in that. Mcburnie with his size and stature I think would be more suited to our game.

In terms of resale value etc, if we get him and he performs well and we go down someone will come and snap him of us for a profit.

If we go down and he’s done okay we have a proven championship striker in the ranks. That’s why I love all of CW signings.

If McBurnie or Maupay we’re risks then they would be double the quoted prices. I know it sounds a lot but the market is dictating that a young Championship striker, proven in the previous season starts at £15-20 million.
Nothing is driving that price down, unless as you say they stay and don’t match last season’s goals, but that’s because the doubts and associated risks have increased.
Right now they are £20 million footballers, more if you want to get it done quickly and without competition. That’s the market, either pay it or look elsewhere for more value.

If they were 20 million strikers they’d already be sold for that price.
PL clubs have loads of money (Villa paid 22 million for Mings) but those clubs generally don’t rate Championship players.
Their perception is that the Championship is a poor standard compared to the PL, so players from the CC need time to be developed to become better.

The only way a club will pay over 20 million is with add-ons as that lowers the risk factor.
For example if Maupay ends up struggling in the PL then the payable transfer fee might be 15 million or so. If he does OK in the PL he might cost 20 million but if he takes the PL by storm then the add-ons could take the fee to 25 million (probably with a % of a future transfer fee on top).

They would be sold, if we'd stump up £20 Million, I think that's something we can all agree on.
I also 100% agree on the add on's, I don't for one minute think we'll be paying £20 Million upfront, just as I don't believe we've paid £9M or £10M for Mousset however that is the level of deal you'll need to pay to secure these guys.
As I said, either pay the going rate, or we need to move on and find value in other markets.

17.5 Mill plus add ons to 20 surely we would get our man

Get ya wallet out princey
